dating: mid-19th Century, provenance: Germany, Octagonal, rifled, 12 mm cal. barrel of fine damask, slightly bell-mouthed at the nozzle, signed "V. CHR. SCHILLING IN SUHL" in gold, provided with precision foresight. Rectangular frame featuring fine engravings; depicting on a side the effigy of a soldier with his crossbow, at the top a man by a fire in the highland and another man spying him (a bandit?) hidden behind the rocks, the rest decorated with floral motifs; on the right side a blued lever opening the loading gate hammer placed at the lower part with safety lock. Grip of briarwood carved with masks and floral motifs framing the checkered area, trigger guard with curl and finger support engraved with floral motifs, iron butt-plate with drum with cover decorated with the effigy of a man with crossbow. Briarwood removable butt engraved en suite, with iron mounts engraved with floral motifs. In a fruitwood case lined with green cloth; complete with all tools and key.Valentin Christoph Schilling is known because of the outstanding quality of his works. See "Der Neue Stoeckel", vol. The full amount has to be paid immediately in Euro. Foreign mail bidders must pay within ten days after receipt of the invoice. Checks are accepted only by special agreement and must cover also bank charges.
