Jaguar XK150SE Drophead Coupé

Lot # 176 (Sale Order: 76 of 168)

Although having a family resemblance to the XK120 and XK140 the XK150 was radically modernised A one piece windscreen replaced the split screen and the wing line no longer dropped as much over the doors The bonnet was also widened opened down to the wings and on the roadster the bulkhead was moved back four inches to make the bonnet longer In the interior the XK140s walnut dashboard was replaced by one trimmed in leather and chrome On the early drophead coups an aluminium centre dash panel with an X pattern engraving was fitted which looked similar to the early 38 litre EType The standard engine the same as fitted to the XK140 was the 34 litre DOHC Jaguar straight six rated at 180bhp at 5750rpm but most cars were fitted with the SE engine that had a modified cylinder head with larger exhaust valves rated at 210bhp at 5500rpm The fourwheel Dunlop 12 disc brakes appeared for the first time although it was theoretically still possible to order a car with drums Either wire wheels or disc wheels could be specified These were high performance well appointed sports touring cars capable of 137mph and 060 in 78 seconds and could comfortably accomplish long distances with alacrityThis original righthand drive drophead coup was originally sold by the Grimsby dealer ‘Baines Bros’ to Samuel E Saunders Gainsborough with the original log book detailing its history included within the history file The current owner a long time connoisseur of the XK marque has just had carried out an extensive ‘nut amp bolt’ restoration with body panels where required fitted by Contour Autocraft and a complete retrim by Erick Suffolk of Suffolk amp Turley It is generally accepted that both companies are amongst the best in their field The engine which had only a mileage of 47500 has undergone a full refurbishment with the head converted to take unleaded petrol The gearbox is an automatic unit making for comfortable longdistance touring if required and includes a number of factory fitted extras such as an engine preheater extremely rare on any Jaguar model Taken to France and used to tour the countryside for the last two years the vendor has driven down to the Alpes and back all through the Burgundy region then on to the Champagne region ending up touring through Kent amp Oxford the result is a thoroughly tried and tested motorcar that drives smoothly through the very desirable automatic gearbox and presented in stunning condition throughout

Lot # 177 (Sale Order: 77 of 168)

The Dino GT4 22 was a groundbreaking model for Ferrari in several ways it was the first production Ferrari to feature the midengined V8 layout that would become the bulk of the companys business in subsequent decades and was the first production Ferrari to feature Bertone rather than Pininfarina bodywork The Dino 308 GT4 was introduced at the Paris Motor Show in November 1973 and featured angular lines entirely different from its curvaceous 2seater brother the Dino 246 The styling was controversial at the time with some journalists comparing it to the Bertonedesigned Lancia Stratos and Lamborghini Urraco The chassis was based on the Dino 246 but was stretched to make room for the second row of rather small seats The suspension was fully independent and the V8 engine mounted transversely The V8 engine was integrally joined with the gearbox and had an alloy cylinder block and heads with twin overhead camshafts There were two series of GT4 the earlier cars featured a twin distributor engine and fog lamps mounted in the front valance Later cars had a single distributor engine with fog lamps mounted behind the front grilleIn 1975 Ferrari produced a 20 litre engine based on the same V8 twin camshaft configuration of which this is such an example This Ferrari has only had two former keepers the previous owner keeping her for 33 years The silver coachwork is in excellent order as is the matching black interior This lefthand drive 22 is a splendid example and benefits from a full engine rebuild in June 2016 and as such drives with no known faults These stylish and fun to drive Dino’s have enjoyed an increase in desirability of late supplied with a V5C registration document and a current MoT test certificate this handsome example is certainly a fun car to drive and is a perfectly useable example

passed onto the previous owner a Stephan Eggleston who purchased the car from an owner in Bournemouth with the view to undertaking a rebuild  It was stripped down and parts placed in tea chests  In 1957 the 1100cc JAP V twin engine was sent to JA Prestwich Industries Ltd for a complete rebuild and service Since that time the engine has only run for 300 miles to the present day Mr Eggleston’s intention was to use the Morgan on hill climbs but decided that a Dellow was far more suited and put the car in bits up for sale  The current owner’s father an engineer wanted his son to follow in his footsteps rather than going into medicine and gave him the Morgan 59 years ago with the view to getting it on the road and to develop a taste for engineering  He was 14 yearsold at the timeFor the following nine years Dr GordonPullar commenced a long campaign of renovation with assistance Unfortunately the original log book had been lost so Mr Eggleston applied for a replacement which was issued to him in 1963 despite Dr GordonPullar having owned the car since 1958 When the family moved house the chassis and body were hoisted through the window of the attic which allowed work to continue in the evenings The chassis was sand blasted rubbed back to bare metal and coated with the best quality paints the bodywork was ground back to bare metal and primed and hand painted The same paintwork is still sound and unblemished The ash wooden frame was sanded back to the wood treated primed and painted The gearbox was stripped down and then polished on reassembly and new front and together with securing blocks and brackets The interior was covered with a red vinyl material to match the colour of the wheels The steering gear and controls stress bars engine fastening nuts and washers as well as the brake handle and gear shift were new and supplied by Morgan and were then diamondhard chromed and have been rust and stain free to this present dayWith the assistance of the bemused neighbours the parts were lowered from the attic and into the garage where they were assembled  The exposed parts were undersealed and with the help of members of the Morgan Three Wheeler Club she was started up tuned and ran on the road the first time since the mid 1950s Unfortunately the owner had to leave home to study engineering at Toulouse University in 1963  However his father was good friends with Bunty ScottMoncrieff and Lord Montagu who kindly offered to store her as an exhibit at the then Montagu Motor Museum in Beaulieu now The National Motor Museum  She was housed there between April 1963 to April 1978 and as such has featured in many publications over the years including The Montague Motor Museum and Bentley Motor Museum catalogues as well as The Encyclopaedia of the Motorcar published by Octopus in 1979 with a page colour photograph The Complete Encyclopaedia of Motorcars published by Ebury Press in 1969 with a colour page entry and British Cars of the Early Thirties published by Frederik Warne in 1979 with a full back cover in colourOn returning from studying and working overseas the vendor collected the Morgan from the Museum and enjoyed short runs around the Surrey countryside before he joined the World Bank and United Nations overseas  It was then brought by trailer to the Bentley Wildfowl and Motor Museum in Halland East Sussex where it was exhibited from April 1982 to August 2004 With the vendor having built an eight car garage the Morgan was brought back from the Museum on a trailer where she has been nurtured in the good company of the other cars in his collection In the last seven years the car has been laid up but has recently undergone recommissioning by specialist Bob Thredder Engineering himself a Morgan enthusiast who in Bentley S2 Continental Drophead Coupé by Park Ward

Bentley Mk. VI Special

Lot # 200 (Sale Order: 100 of 168)

The Bentley Mk VI was the first postwar luxury car from Bentley produced from 1946 to 1952 It was also the first car from RollsRoyce with factory coachwork although chassis were still also supplied to independent coachbuilders The chassis and engine went on to be used as the basis of those in the RollsRoyce Silver Wraith of 1946 and Silver Dawn of 1949 The factory bodies were made by Pressed Steel Ltd of Coventry and sent to the Bentley works at Crewe for painting and fitting out with traditional wood and leatherThis Bentley Special was pulled out of some very thick and heavy mud in Yorkshire some 20 years ago Presumably it had been there for sometime as it was very rusty Since the ‘rescue’ of the Bentley the body was deemed beyond repair and scrapped the chassis was found to be pretty solid although it was shortened slightly all of this work was carried out by Stewart Gordon a respected Bentley specialist The bodywork was then replaced with the handsome ‘special’ she presents with today Aesthetically JDG 606 is in proportion with delightful lines and a sporty look Mechanically this is a very well sorted example and the 4257cc engine sound superb when started The fastidious and enthusiastic vendor has certainly looked after this Bentley well and has enjoyed tours of Scotland and Europe with the Bentley Owners Club
