Brütsch Mopetta

Lot # 161 (Sale Order: 61 of 168)

Brtsch were best known for producing a large number of different microcar designs but only produced small numbers of each design and the primary function of the company appears to have been that of the development and promotion of each design to sell licences to manufacture to other companies Many of the bodywork designs were simple twopiece mouldings of polyester reinforced with fiberglass bonded at a waistline join which was then covered by a protective strip The Brtsch Mopetta is an interesting historical curiosity only 14 of the microcars were ever made and even though there were some negations with Opel nothing came of the talks and sadly the car never saw a production run Originally designed and built in a single day by Egon Brtsch in 1956 the Brtsch Mopetta is a 2stroke 50cc 3 wheeler with a top speed of 30mph and enough seating room for one man his flap cap and his pipe It isn’t hard to imagine the Mopetta taking on icon status in much the same way that the Messerschmitt Goggomobil and Peel Trident did in the 1960s Georg Von Opel planned to build the Mopetta at the Horex factory to sell it as the Opelit at his Opel dealership but he lost interest in 1958 and only 14 units were ever builtThis particular car of which there are very few left in existence is a delight for any enthusiast or collector It also allegedly completed the slowest lap at Goodwood Revival one year A rare and interesting micro car which will intrigue people for many years

Morris Mini Cooper ‘S’ Mk. I (1275cc)

Lot # 165 (Sale Order: 65 of 168)

The notion that the Mini might have a future as anything other than basic transport was an anathema the idea of a highperformance version was laughable One man though saw it quite differently Racing car manufacturer John Cooper already knew quite a bit about tuning BMCs ASeries engine he was running the companys Formula Junior effort at the time and a test drive in a prototype Mini convinced him of the cars competition potential The Mini Cooper soon established its credentials as a rally and race winner and the stage was set for even faster versions The first of these the 1071cc Mini Cooper S of 1963 took engine development a stage further and provided the basis for the 971 S and 1275 S of 1964Over the years of success there were more than twenty assemblymanufacturing plants for Minis established around the world In the early years of the Mini the majority of Minis that came to life outside of the UK were assembled outside of the these shores Everything the assembly plant needed was shipped as a kit from England and assembled into the final product Sometimes some local changes were made eg the few South African 1071 Cooper Ss had a solid colored interior instead of the more familiar brocade These changes could have been only a matter of changes for marketing reasons but usually they were driven by local content laws meaning simply that Minis could be assembled in a country as long as a certain percentage of the total content of the car was produced in that country This right hand drive Morris Mini Cooper 1275 S benefits from a recent groundup restoration to near concours quality in the correct early type lighter shade RD9 tartan red with black roof The car was exported on 3rd July 1965 assembled in Portugal It was registered to its first owner on 10th November 1965 and remained in Portugal until 2016Discovered as an abandoned project the previous owner started a restoration in spring 2013 with every component being refurbished renewed or replaced All the bodyshell details were revised and rectified using new panels where required The engine was completely dismantled inspected and rebuilt using new parts only when the originals were not suitable to reuse The first step was to make the revision of the AEG312 S short block Therefore after verifying the good status of the crankshaft pistons and con rods it was fitted with new parts such as pistons rings bearings seals oil and water pumps A duplex vernier timing gear and chain set was fitted along with a new camshaft kit The original AEG163 head was beyond repair so a replacement Stage 3 head was sourced from Minisport The gearbox received the same attention as the engine benefitting from a total strip and inspection before rebuild using new baulk ringsA complete and new wiring loom was installed along with all new electronic components throughout the car for safety and reliability The entire interior was retrimmed in the correct Newton Commercial UK red and gold brocade with new seat covers door cards carpet headlining and boot board The car is fitted with very rare original 35” Cooper S wheels including spare all running on Dunlop tyres and has an MoT test certificate valid until March 2018 with no advisories and a recent biannual service The car was then converted back to right hand drive for the UK roads something that naturally is very simple to do especially as the initial Alec Issigonis design was conceived to suit all and any marketsThe accompanying history file contains a UK V5 registration and a Heritage dating certificate Very difficult to fault this is a unique opportunity to purchase an outstanding example that for most would simply be impossible to achieve With examples in this condition commanding well over £50000 frankly this looks like incredible value especially given the rarity and wow factor

Porsche 911/934 'Jagermeister' Tribute

Lot # 167 (Sale Order: 67 of 168)

The Porsche 911 is in many ways the quintessential sports car Upon its introduction the world of motoring was changed forever Still the 911 continues to help the world of motoring evolve more than 50 years on Perhaps the most important update to the 911 was the introduction of the 930 turbo which transformed the 911 from impressive in its own right into something far greater It was the fastest production car available to its home country of Germany and thankfully for fans of motorsport the folks at Porsche wanted to take their creation to the race track In race trim the 930 was primarily known as the 934 which retained most of the lines and features of the original roadgoing car Wider bumpers and more aggressive aerodynamics played important parts but underneath its essence was the same Introduced in 1976 alongside the substantially more aggressive 935 the turbo Porsches tackled the world of motorsport with incredible success The 934 did so perhaps most famously in this very livery In 1976 it was Max Moritz Racing that initially fielded a matching pair of Jagermeistersponsored 934s to a number of respectable podium finishes however it wasnt their success that brought about their fame but the iconic blazing Jagermeister orange livery From scale models to Scalextric Porsche claims few of their cars have seen more incarnations Its easy to see why with the classic lines of the 911 emblazoned with one of racings most vibrant and wellknown liveries This Porsche was imported into New Zealand by the local Porsche agent in 1980 as a new righthand drive 911SC In 1990 it was entered in the Nissan Mobil Street Race in Wellington in the hands of a local Porsche Club member It was then purchased and developed as a widebody rally Porsche by the wellknown Gilmour family in Dunedin with a 36 litre engine G50 gearbox adjustable suspension and a Quaife limited slip differential In this form it won its class in Targa NZ for an incredible six years running Current owner Andy Tyler shared a support team with the Gilmours in the 2002 Targa in his Porsche Club Sport and got to know them well In 2003 he acquired the car from them and further developed it for use on the track running it in both the New Zealand Porsche series and subsequently in the New Zealand Super GT series which it won outright in both 2004 and 2006 In the process the car twice won the prestigious Bruce McLaren trophy for GT racing The genes from the original seem to have fallen close to the tree By this stage it had a 38 litre engine close ratio gears 54mm high butterfly inlet manifolds JAE pistons and a MOTEC system it was developing 400bhp just 84 less than the firebreathing original and weighed a little over 900kg After some time in storage it was decided that it should return to its roots as a classic road car and a replica of the 1970’s Group 4 ‘Jagermeister’ 934 Porsches Cams were changed and power was reduced to make it more tractable on the road Both the original paint colour and the original 1970s ‘Jagermeister’ logos were researched and applied Still developing almost twice the power it had in 1980 this Porsche is both an exciting eye catching retro streetlegal righthand drive road car and an ideal track day car It has absolutely no rust whatsoever having never been exposed to salt on UK roads and in spite of a remarkable racing career has never been damaged A full photographic history of both the body restoration and its most recent engine rebuild is available It has travelled less than 100 miles since its restoration for the 2016 Porsche festival in New Zealand Recently imported into the UK duty has been paid and a new UK V5C document has been issued Well prepared and sporting one the most iconic of Porsche liveries this 934 reads well and drives even better
