Jaguar XJS Lynx Convertible (5.3 litre)

Lot # 126 (Sale Order: 26 of 168)

The Jaguar XJS was a luxury grand tourer produced from 1975 through to 1996 and replaced the EType Although it never had quite the same sporting image the XJS was actually more aerodynamic with the last one being produced on 4th April 1996 at that stage 115413 had been manufactured during a 21 year production life Power came from the Jaguar V12 petrol engine with a choice of a manual or automatic transmission but the manual gearbox was soon dropped V12 engined cars were unusual at the time with notable exceptions coming from Italian luxury sports car makers Lamborghini and Ferrari The specifications of the XJS compared well with both Italian cars it was able to accelerate to 60mph in 76 seconds and had a top speed of 143mphPrior to Jaguar offering a convertible option in 1988 Lynx adapted a number of XJS’s to a convertible The impressive modification worked very well as it maintained the windscreen rake and strength at the top of the windscreen thus minimising any ‘scuttle shake’ This particular example was originally registered on 10th September 1984 and has had only three former keepers The car has been impressively maintained with a well stamped service book The current mileage of 31468 is correct and confirmed by the history folder TWR suspension including wheels and tyres contribute towards making this XJS a pleasant drive with good roadholding Finished in Claret with Doeskin leather interior and supplied with a V5C registration document together with a current MoT test certificate valid until 17th August 2018 no advisories this Jaguar XJS convertible by Lynx is rare and eminently useable

Audi Quattro Coupé GT

Lot # 130 (Sale Order: 30 of 168)

AAudi’s headquarters are in Bavaria and has been a wholly owned (99.55%) subsidiary of Volkswagen AG since 1966 following a phased purchase of its predecessor, Auto Union, from its former owner, Daimler-Benz. Volkswagen relaunched the Audi brand in 1965 and the company’s slogan or tagline is Vorsprung durch Technik, meaning ‘Progress through Technology’. The Audi image at this time was a conservative one, and so, a proposal from chassis engineer Jörg Bensinger was accepted to develop the four-wheel drive technology in Volkswagen's military vehicle for an Audi performance car and rally racing car. The performance car, introduced in 1980, was named the ‘Audi Quattro’, a turbocharged coupé which was also the first German large-scale production vehicle to feature permanent all-wheel drive through a centre differential. Prominent wins in rallying proved the viability of all-wheel drive racecars and the Audi name became associated with advances in automotive technology. Originally registered on 19th May 1988, this Audi has only had three owners from new during its 29 years on British roads. The current vendor has owned her since June 2012 and has done little more than 3,000 miles in that time. However she has always been well maintained and kept in a dry warm garage. Showing no signs of corrosion, the fastidious vendor advises us the Quattro drives exceedingly well with no known faults. The five cylinder, 2226cc engine started immediately when requested and ran smoothly with no adverse rattles or noises; clearly this is a Quattro Coupé GT that has been very well cared for. Supplied with a V5C registration document and a current MoT test certificate valid until 3rd May 2018 (no advisories); this Audi is offered for sale without reserve. * Interested parties should note this is a two wheel drive vehicle and not Quattro as previously advertised

Lot # 132 (Sale Order: 32 of 168)

Alfa Romeo was asked to provide an exhibit that would be representative of the automotive industry for the 1967 Worlds Fair in Montreal The result was a fabulous prototype designed by Marcello Gandini of the Bertone styling the biggest surprise however was the power plant under the bonnet Alfa Romeo used a detuned Type 33 racing V8 engine of 2589cc capacity which produced over 200bhp coupled to a ZF fivespeed gearboxThis is a very rare righthand drive Montreal of which only 180 were manufactured out of a total production run of 3917 According to DVLA records 57 cars currently exist in the UK Always red this Montreal was purchased by the registered keeper in 1986 and after using the car for a few years OLX 250P was put into storage and later dismantled for bodywork restoration Everything necessary was removed from the car including all interior trim glass and some of the engine bay ancillaries Although the engine gearbox and driveline remained in the car we are advised the engine was strong with good oil pressure and was not considered to have been in need of any rebuilding and this view also applied to the other mechanical components The bodywork has since been completely restored with all signs of corrosion removed and refabricated with a view to long term ownershipThe car is best described as being a rolling restoration project that now needs reassembling It is supplied with a collection of invoicesreceipts the V5 registration document and three previous MoT test certificates the last one expiring in March 1988 together with much helpful technical data the official parts book and other documents that will greatly aid the next owner during reassembly This Alfa Romeo Montreal is a superb opportunity to own a ‘forgotten supercar’ offering power presence and style in abundance

Lot # 136 (Sale Order: 36 of 168)

We are pleased to present this unique MGC Roadster that was first supplied to the MG main dealer in Southern California in 1968 The original specifications included automatic transmission wire wheels with the coachwork finished in British Racing Green The interesting life of this motor car really began in the early 1970s when a UK serviceman whilst serving in California purchased it from the main MG dealer He apparently used the MG for a couple of years and then returned it to the dealer asking for it to be converted to righthand drive as he was to be posted back to the UK and wished to take the car with him A local body shop was entrusted with the work the conversion included a North American steering column and switch gear Sebringstyle steel wheel arches manufactured on an English wheel and a later MGB dashboard that accommodates the MGC odometer and revolution countersThe engine was said to have been removed rebuilt and balanced sadly no documented evidence of this exists whilst an overdrive gearbox was also added After a year had passed the serviceman became uncontactable the suspicion being that he had a large bill to pay so returned to the UK without paying There the MGC sat for over 20 years until purchased by Bob Sauder of Grass Valley California in the early 1990s At this time it was finished in primer and had many features such as the wire wheels six branch manifold triple carburettors and a Downton twin pipe exhaust system It stayed there until Bob now in his 70’s decided that he would never get around to finishing the project and so sold it on to the current UK owner in February 2012 It was then that the serious work of recommissioning the MGC began and completed to the standard you see today In fact such is the condition of this drystate MG that there is no evidence of the car ever having been welded apart from the addition of the steel wheel arches or of it ever having been involved in an accident Further additions include telescopic shock absorbers all around renewed brake and clutch systems and a rebuilt overdrive gearbox whilst the well respected trimmers P J M Motors of Market Drayton Shropshire trimmed the leather interior It is now UK registered and comes with an MoT test certificate with no advisories valid until May 2018Today this unusual and unique MGC nicknamed ‘The Monster’ presents very well and we are informed drives just like an MGC should Love it or hate it you will not fail to notice it

Bentley R-Type Saloon (Standard steel)

Lot # 145 (Sale Order: 45 of 168)

The RType is the second series of postwar Bentley motorcars and replaced the Mk VI Essentially a largerboot version of the Mk VI the R type is regarded by some as a stopgap before the introduction of the Sseries cars in 1955 As with its predecessor a standard body was available as well as coachbuilt versions by firms including HJMulliner Park Ward Harold Radford Freestone and Webb and others Even by this date there was little difference other than the radiator grilles and the carburation between the standard Bentley RType and the Rolls Royce Silver Dawn though Bentley was still the more popular sporting marque Indeed the vast majority of cars produced were Bentleys with some 2500 units manufactured during the RTypes run During development it was referred to as the Bentley Mk VII even the chassis cards for these cars describe them as Bentley 7s The RType name which is now usually applied stems from chassis series RT The front of the saloon model was identical to the Mk VI but the boot was almost doubled in capacity and the engine increased in displacement from 4 to 4 litresThis automatic Bentley RType has been sourced from a large collection and presents well with black over grey coachwork and Blood Red leather trim Originally registered on 9th March 1954 this elegant example has spent much of its recent life in Ireland and boasts a wealth of servicing and maintenance bills covering the past 17 years Although clearly restored a number of years ago this example could now benefit from some further light restoration work with the trim just passing the patina stage and the woodwork although complete in need of some treatment but by no means in poor condition Attractively estimated this very usable example has character and charm in abundance and represents a great opportunity to own and enjoy a 1950s Bentley
