Morris Mini Traveller

Lot # 251 (Sale Order: 51 of 127)

The first Morris Mini Traveller was built on 29th March 1960 butnot despatched until 27th July 1960 to Welder Ltd.  UnlikeMorris Mini saloons, which came out of the Cowley plant, allTravellers were built at Longbridge. The first cars were availablein the same paint colours as the Mini Saloons of the time. Theinterior also matched that of the saloon with a white speedometerhoused in a single round cowling and two-tone seats.  Costing£623, the estates were available only in the De Luxe trim levelwhich included a recirculating heater, bumper over-riders, silverinsert round the screen and chrome sill edging, filler cap andwheel trims. Two wing mirrors  were fitted as standard, sincethis was a legal requirement at the time for estate cars, but arear view mirror was an optional extra, as were seatbelts! The rear floor pressing of the early estates resembled that ofan extended saloon with the battery being retained in itstraditional Mini location in the boot. One of the most interestingthings about the very early Traveller and Countryman cars was theinternal fuel tank. It was positioned on the lefthand side in therear of the car and was trimmed to match the boot.  Theseso-called internal tank cars are easily recognisable by the fillercap being just underneath the rear window on the lefthand side ofthe car. Production of the internal tank cars was so limited thatthese have become the most sought after of all Mini estates. This 'Woody' has had only two owners from new having been drygarage stored for the past 18 years. It was purchased by thecurrent owner just over a year ago with the intention ofundertaking a full restoration.  Wood & Pickett havecarried out a re-commissioning of this very original Mini, including a full one year MoT test certificate, ready for its newowner to carry out works to bring this fine car back to pristinecondition.?

Austin Mini Mayfair (John Cooper Prototype)

Lot # 253 (Sale Order: 53 of 127)

From its peak in 1971, Mini production had dwindled to justunder 35,000 units per year by the end of 1985. The only marketwhere there appeared to still be growth potential was Japan. Withthis in mind, the President of Austin Rover Japan approached JohnCooper in early 1986 and asked if it was possible to put an MGMetro engine into a standard 998cc Mini to produce a sportsversion.  An MG Metro-engined Mini was soon on its way toJapan for evaluation. That car was C734 SWV.The management at Rover Japan showed great enthusiasm for theidea but a request for a limited production of 1,000 units wasturned down by Austin Rover's CEO, Harold Musgrove, who wasplanning to end Mini production altogether in March 1987. JohnCooper however, had already been approached by other Japaneseinterests to produce conversion kits for 998cc Mini models andthis, coupled with a change in management at Austin Rover in late1986, proved the turning point.  C734 SWV once again came backinto its own in 1988 when a formal presentation was made to AustinRover in July of that year. The role of this car in re-establishingthe now famous 'Mini Cooper' in 1989, maintaining its desirabilityand driver appeal throughout the 1990's right up to the end ofproduction in October 2000, cannot be understated.  C734 SWVis the forerunner of the engine conversions that John and MichaelCooper would eventually offer customers from 1991 onwards. The DVLApaperwork with this car shows a 998cc Austin Mini Mayfair beingpurchased by John Cooper Garages in April 1987 and at its nextdocumented sale in March 1989 with the cylinder capacity alreadychanged to 1275cc. Whilst being shown at the International MiniMeeting in 2014, the current owner was approached by Michael Cooper(John Cooper's son) who regaled him of various memories ofconverting the car, including the installation of a Cooper badge tothe rocker cover which is intact to this day.The car is owned by Michael Standring of Wood & Pickett andforms part of his personal collection. It is immaculate both insideand out, having seen very little use over the years.  The caris to be the subject of a detailed upcoming feature in Mini WorldMagazine by the well-known classic car journalist, John Parnell. Itis finished in Targa Red paint with white roof, bonnet stripes anddistinctive original Cooper rear quarter decals.  Thetechnical specification features a ported and gas-flowed cylinderhead fitted with enlarged valves, 35mm inlet and 29mm exhaust, anincreased compression ratio, twin 1.5" HS4 carburettors withK&N air filters and a special three-branch exhaustmanifold.  Stopping power is aided by the addition of a Typesix brake servo while a high efficiency radiator, coupled with anoil cooler, allowed the engine to cope with the demanding summertemperatures in Japan. The interior of the car remains original tothe Mini Mayfair, the only clue of its sporting underpinnings beingthe Cooper-badged Moto-Lita steering wheel.?

Morris Mini Concours

Lot # 254 (Sale Order: 54 of 127)

The first Austin Morris Mini was made by the British MotorCorporation (BMC) in 1959 and is still today considered a BritishIcon. The first example with the registration plate of '621AOK'  is now on display at The Heritage Motor Centre inWarwickshire. This February 1960 Morris Mini Minor has beenbeautifully restored by Michael Standring of Wood & Pickett in2013 with a complete 'nut and bolt, ground up' restoration and isfinished in its original Clipper Blue. Many of the early evolving Prototype features can be seen onthis car, specifically floor push-start, flat front and rear screenpanels, large upright steering wheel, welded seat brackets, chromesliding window catches, original brass door hinges and straight'magic-wand' gear lever. The car was restored using as many of the original parts as waspossible including the engine, wiper motor and heater assembly.  The front and rear sub-frames and all bracketry were blackpowder coated prior to re-assembling the car and the engine andgearbox were completely overhauled. The interior was specially commissioned using Newton Commercial, sympathetically restored to the original specification includinghorse-hair stuffing.  The original 1960 heel mat and wheelarch pad were incorporated into the new carpet. The car comes with a photographic record of its restoration, anoriginal Morris Mini Minor sales brochure and specification sheet,British Motor Heritage Certificate and Morris Mini Minor handbook. There is something about the purity and minimalist nature of theearly Mini that is enchanting.  This beautiful example hasbeen dry stored since its restoration and has never seen any rain, hence its extremely low mileage and irrefutable concourscondition.

Austin Mini Van (Wood & Pickett Delivery)

Lot # 256 (Sale Order: 56 of 127)

The potential for a commercial version of the Mini was anobvious route once it was realised that the distance between thefront and rear sub-frames could be changed easily.  Thewheelbase was increased by 4" thus increasing the overall length by10" and making its 46cu. ft. more useable than its sibling, the A35van, also produced at the Longbridge plant. The Mini Van was originally offered at a price of £360 excludingpurchase tax which did not apply to commercial vehicles. To qualifyin the 1960's, the Mini van could only be driven at 30mph, excepton the new M1 where it was allowed to do 40mph.This 1963 Mini Van is finished in Tweed Grey and isaffectionately known to its current owner as 'Granville', TheDelivery Boy.It was used by its first owner from 1963 to 1971 and wasthereafter stored in a lock-up only to be forgotten. By chance itwas unearthed by the local council who managed to contact theoriginal owner. Between 2000 and 2003, the van underwent a lightrestoration and repair. Two bucket seats, new carpet and Wood &Pickett livery were added. Amongst many of its original featuresare a 'World Cup Willy' sticker from 1966 and two camping stickerson the windscreen from 1969 and 1970 which were carefully retainedduring the restoration.  An article on the van was publishedin Mini Magazine in 2003. The floor push button starter was afeature of Minis from 1959 to 1963 as was the air vent in the roofin these early models. These commercial vehicles had few luxuriesand, in particular, no sound-proofing.  Granville is iconic ofits time and an absolute delight to all who drive him and to hisadmiring public.

Lot # 257 (Sale Order: 57 of 127)

The Mini was made by the British Motor Corporation (BMC) and itssuccessors from 1959 until 2000. The original is considered aBritish icon of the 1960s; with its space-saving, front-wheel drivelayout, allowing 80% of the car's floorpan to be used forpassengers and luggage. This influenced a generation of car makersand, in 1999, the Mini was voted the second most influential car ofthe 20th century (behind the Ford Model T). This distinctive,two-door car was designed by Sir Alec Issigonis and wasmanufactured at the Longbridge and Cowley plants; the very firstexample, with the now iconic registration plate '621 AOK', is ondisplay at the Heritage Motor Centre in Warwickshire.Originally supplied by Wadham Stringer in Wiltshire on27th November 1979, this Austin Mini 1000 has beenrestored to a very high standard. The vendor is a veryknowledgeable motoring enthusiast and he purchased the car for hisgrandson, taking into account the cost of insurance for teenagers. The car has been dressed to look like a much more sporty 'AustinCooper S' but underneath it all, AMW 213V remains a pretty standardMini 1000. The grey coachwork is unmarked and the black interiorfitted with Recaro-style sports seats. The original service booksare supplied with the car together with a comprehensive historyfolder; the mileage of 57,421 appears to be correct although notwarranted. A V5 registration document is present, together with anMoT test certificate valid until 22nd October 2016. ThisMini is in excellent order throughout and is very realisticallyestimated given the obvious appeal of such a splendidexample.

The history of this revolutionary motorcar is well known, itsimpact socially and culturally is well documented and is rememberedwith great fondness by many people. The Mini Cooper S earnedacclaim with Monte Carlo Rally victories in 1964, 1965 and 1967.Minis were initially placed first, second and third in the 1966rally as well but were disqualified after a controversial decisionby the French judges. Huge demand was also generated and, quiterightly, continues today. We are pleased to offer an original and rather lovely Mk. IIIexample of the Mini Cooper S; one of only 792 manufactured for thehome market! Our vendor, an ex-BMC mechanic, acquired the Cooper ina state that necessitated a complete restoration and so began acomplete nut and bolt rebuild that was finally completed in 2013.The original shell was found to be beyond repair but importantly,an original new Leyland Mk. III shell (not a Heritage shell) wassourced and the car built around it. A decision was made tocomplete the car in Mk. II colours and some badging with the bluevinyl interior being retained; the car now stands resplendent inits tartan red coachwork with black roof. Unfortunately, uponpurchase, the original engine had been lost but as a stroke of lucka genuine 1275cc, Cooper S unit was found and fully rebuilt withperiod modifications that include being fully balanced, a flowedand ported cylinder head conversion to run on unleaded fuel, fittedwith a medium performance 'road use' camshaft, twin 1.5" SUcarburettors and stage two manifolds and exhaust system. The extentof the restoration cannot be underestimated; the suspension hasbeen converted to the more reliable rubber suspension conesreplacing the notoriously unreliable and difficult to set upHydrolastic set-up, the sub-frames have been powder coated, theundersides protected and painted body colour and it has been fittedwith vented Cooper S reverse wheel rims, period Dunlop tyres andGroup Two wheel arches. These are amongst the many details thathave been executed to make this one of the finest Coopers in themarket.

Bentley Turbo R (Long Wheelbase)

Lot # 260 (Sale Order: 60 of 127)

The Bentley Turbo R was a high-performance model produced from1985 to 1997 totalling 7,230 units in the 12 year productionperiod. The 'R' stood for 'Road-holding' to set it apart from itspredecessor, the Mulsanne, courtesy of substantially stifferanti-roll bar settings, a Panhard rod system and increased damping.Wider tyres on alloy wheels were also a first for a Bentley on theTurbo R. The suspension changes transformed the soft ride of theMulsanne into that of a real performer with motoring pressproclaiming this model to be more faithful to Bentley's racingpedigree. In 1995, a 'new' Turbo R was launched featuring, amongstother things, fuel injection. This contributed towards a mighty385bhp output. This locally owned and privately entered Bentley Turbo R wasdelivered by HR Owen, London on 10th April 1997. One of a total of2,034 long wheelbase models produced, this model was specified withCobalt blue coachwork complemented by Parchment hide with royalblue piping and carpets of dark blue lamb's wool with parchmentbinding. Maintained most recently by its ex-HR Owen engineer owner, the car has enjoyed meticulous upkeep including recent work tosuspension and brakes as well as fresh engine, gearbox and brakesystem fluids. The most recent MoT test certificate was issued inMay with no advisories and just 300 miles covered since. The carperforms with excellent poise and a velvet power delivery. Gearchanges are seamless and the car feels tight and highly capable. The service book contains 13 entries, several of which are byWeybridge Automobiles then a Bentley Dealership here at Brooklands. The car was last serviced in December 2014 with less than 800 milescovered since. Mitsubishi Starion EX Turbo Widebody

Lot # 261 (Sale Order: 61 of 127)

The Starion is considered to be one of the originators of themodern Japanese turbocharged performance sportscars of the era andcertainly the first to use electronic fuel injection. Over theproduction run of the Starion, nearly every year brought changeswith increased engine power as well as larger body sizes and morecomplexity in the vehicle. The introduction of the 'widebody' alsosplit the car into two distinct ranges; one of which was anon-intercooled lower horsepower car using the narrow body styleand a high-performance intercooled widebody. Many came with alimited slip differential and anti-lock brakes as standardfeatures. Horsepower varied between 150-197hp depending mostly uponthe turbocharger that was fitted, the presence of an intercoolerand whether the eight-valve or 12-valve head was used.Originally registered on 24th May 1989, this Starionhas only covered 79,000 miles from new. The fastidious vendor hasimproved this 'widebody' example under his stewardship, includingrecent refurbishment of the wheels at a cost of £600. Ourinspection confirmed this to be a Mitsubishi of the highest qualitywith no rattles or squeaks; the white coachwork is virtuallyunmarked as is the black leather trim. Supplied with a V5registration document confirming the registration number of C5 RPSis staying with the vehicle and a current MoT test certificatevalid until 18th March 2016, this Starion EX Turbo is avery good example of an increasingly rare and desirable 80's (very)hot hatch.

Alfa Romeo Giulia GT 1300 Junior (2.0 litre)

Lot # 262 (Sale Order: 62 of 127)

The Alfa Romeo 105 series coupé was designed by GiorgettoGiugiaro of Bertoné and was considered to be one of his greatestdesigns. Not only as one of the best looking and handling classicsaloon cars of the period but the advanced specification with itsfive-speed gearbox, all round disc brakes, independent suspensionand powerful twin-cam engine still has the capability to embarrassmany of its modern counterparts. This 1972 Giulia GT example offered today started life with a1290cc twin cam unit. As with so many of these models, a similarengine with a larger capacity of 1962cc has been fitted. The headwas recently re-built and a reduction gear starter motor fitted butotherwise the engine remains as standard; the major benefit of thelarger unit is the increase in engine torque and higher and morecomfortable cruising speed capabilities. In addition, the powerunit boasts a Pipercross air filter, four-branch exhaust manifoldand GTA exhaust. Other 2.0 litre specification equipment includesthe larger front brakes and a limited slip differential. Thecoachwork presents very well and, importantly, a sign that the caris strong, the doors fit very well and open and shut with ease. This may be attributed to the Giulia having undergone a majorrestoration several years previously which included works to thefloor pans, sills and wheel arches. The bumpers have been removedto give the Giulia a period look; a modification that is easilyrestored as both bumpers are in excellent condition and will besold with the car. Further recent works included a new fuel tankand clutch slave cylinder. A fast road suspension kit has beenfitted resulting in the car being flatter through corners andgiving the Giulia a slightly lower look. The interior has beensubstantially re-trimmed including a new headlining, black seatcovers and parcel shelf with contrasting white piping. A fullcarpet set to floors and boot, together with new dashboard veneersare nicely finished off with the fitment of a Nardi Classico woodensteering wheel. The Giulia is UK registered and we are advised willarrive at the sale with a fresh MoT test certificate. The mileagereading of 32,400 miles cannot be substantiated; however, a numberof MoT certificates dating back to 1998 show that this Giulia GThas only covered some 8,000 miles over the last 17 years. These attractive Bertone coupés are as popular as ever and withthis handsome Biancospino example being complemented with a set ofGTA style 6" x 14" alloy wheels and with further detail worksoffering some distinguishing personal touches, this handsome AlfaRomeo represents excellent value considering its modestestimate.

Lotus Seven Mk. IV

Lot # 263 (Sale Order: 63 of 127)

The Lotus Seven was launched in 1957 after the Lotus Eleven wasin limited production. The Seven name was left over from a modelthat was abandoned by Lotus and would have been a Riley-engined,single-seater that Lotus intended to enter into Formula Two in1952. However, the car was completed around Chapman's chassis as asports car by its backers and christened the Clairmonte Special. The Lotus Seven S2 followed in 1960 and was supplemented by theLotus Super Seven S2 from 1961. The Super Seven initially used thelarger Cosworth modified 1,340cc Ford Classic engine and laterexamples were fitted with 1,498cc or 1,599cc engines. The Seven S3was released in 1968 and in 1970, Lotus radically changed the shapeof the car to create the slightly more conventional sized Series 4(S4), with a squarer fibreglass shell replacing most of thealuminium bodywork. It also offered some 'luxuries' as standard, such as an internal heater matrix.A stunning three-owner from new, this Lotus 7 has been thesubject of a meticulous restoration over an 18 month period by arespected lotus expert. The tubular steel space frame chassis waschemically dipped and any suspect tubes replaced before beingetched primed and painted in gloss black. The fiberglass body shellwas hand sanded down to the gel coat and repainted in the originalspecification of tangerine orange. The Lotus twin-cam engine wasrebuilt with new rings, bearings, valves, oil pump with the clutchand gearbox overhauled.  A new wiring loom was installed, interior re-trimmed and refurbished period/optional Dunlop D1wheels fitted running Yokohama A539 tyres. This 1971 Lotus 7 issupplied with a V5C registration document, an MoT test certificatewhich expires in November 2016, a picture album of the restorationand a small history file. The Jaguar XJS Convertible, which first appeared in 1988, wasconsiderably more than just a coupé with the roof removed. The earlier 'T'-top cabriolet paved the way as the first openJaguar since the demise of the E-Type in 1975 but this was to bethe first full convertible and a strengthened sub-frame wasemployed in order to alleviate scuttle shake. Retaining the roomycockpit space of the coupé, the new convertible, naturally, boastedall the expected Jaguar refinements as standard making for a veryfine open grand touring car. The XJS's superlative 5.3 litre enginedeveloped some 295bhp in later fuel injected form and when alliedto automatic transmission gave authoritative 150mph performance.Today, this model is very much establishing itself as a most worthylatter day classic; good examples being eagerly sought byconnoisseurs of the marque. This handsome convertible is finished in white with barleyleather trim. Ferrari 412GT

Lot # 265 (Sale Order: 65 of 127)

The Ferrari 365 GT4 2+2, 400 and 412 are front-engined, V12, 2+2grand tourers made between 1972 and 1989. The three cars areclosely related, using the same body, chassis and engine evolvedover time. After Ferrari's custom, their numeric names refer to theengines' single cylinder displacement expressed in cubiccentimetres and therefore changed with each update to reflect theincreasing displacement. The gearbox was either a five-speed,all-synchromesh manual with a single-plate clutch or three-speedautomatic unit. Five-spoke alloy wheels were mounted on Rudgeknock-off hubs. Fittingly for a large grand tourer, standardequipment included leather upholstery, electric windows and airconditioning. The body was altered with a raised rear deck grantingmore luggage space. Pininfarina made many subtle tweaks tomodernise the exterior. The bumpers were body-coloured; at thefront there was a deeper spoiler and, at the rear, a black valanceincorporated the foglamps and exhaust pipes. Today, its sleek,Pininfarina-designed lines and relatively limited productionnumbers have cemented its position as one of the most iconicFerrari of the 1980's.This great-looking example of Pininfarina's, front-enginedFerrari includes a file of bills dating back to the late 1990's.Upon inspection, a replacement engine was fitted in 2012 byspecialist garage, Gordon Kellett Services. They also went on toreplace the air conditioning compressor, re-condition the discs andcallipers and indeed written confirmation is supplied that the carunderwent a mechanical restoration in the decade they looked afterits well-being. The overall condition is described as in very goodorder throughout. The interior presents well and a full one yearMoT test certificate, service and original owner's pack will besupplied with the car. Bentley Arnage T Mulliner

Lot # 266 (Sale Order: 66 of 127)

Not only is the Arnage T more expensive and more powerful thanits predecessor, the Arnage Green and Red Label models, but it alsoclaimed the title of world's fastest saloon, needing all but thelast two spots on its 170mph speedometer. The Arnage T is poweredby yet another version of the 6.75 litre Rolls-Royce, V8 enginewhose roots go back to 1959. Treated to what Bentley described as'the most thorough re-engineering of its life', the 2007 model yearcars produced a staggering 500bhp. This prodigious output, besidesenabling this Bentley to reach 168mph, also sent it from 0 to 60mphin 5.2 seconds; the engine's most significant change being theswitch from a single turbocharger to one for each bank ofcylinders. Other changes included the adoption of a 'drive-by-wire'throttle to go hand-in-glove with Bosch's Electronic StabilityProgram which replaced the Red Label's traction control, but whatreally gives this nearly three-ton car its immense poise is arevised suspension that features 57 percent more roll stiffnessthan the Red Label. The car's basic structure is also 10% stifferwhich means there are no creaks and squeaks of the sort thatdistinguished previous generations of Bentleys.Originally registered on 1st May 2008 thisexquisitely handsome Bentley has only covered 16,452 miles from newand is warranted by a full Bentley dealer service history. Thevendor is a respected classic car enthusiast and has lovingly caredfor this Arnage T throughout his stewardship, even to the point ofcovering the driver's seat in a blanket before using the car tosave any unnecessary wear and tear marks. The black coachwork isunmarked as is the sumptuous parchment leather interior. Whether itis the deep rich walnut or the Bentley logo stitched into theheadrests that catch your eye, this Arnage T is not only a stunningcar to look at, the performance is astonishing given the style, comfort and luxury that this 500 bhp Bentley offers. Benefittingfrom a very recent service by Harwoods of Pulborough, AU08BXO issupplied with a V5 registration document and a full year's MoT testcertificate together with the original service books. Ferrari 328GTS

Lot # 267 (Sale Order: 67 of 127)

Perhaps one of the most recognisable designs ever penned forFerrari by Pininfarina is that of the 308. The 308 was muchdifferent from Ferrari's first two-seat, mid-engined road car, the246 Dino, as its design was angular, sharp and more forwardthinking. Nevertheless, the 308 was an instant hit and it came todefine late '70s and early '80s sports cars. As successful as the308 was, Ferrari's engineers found ways to refine its design andmechanics without losing the flair that defined it. What emergedwas a car that was improved in every aspect; a car that could standtall amongst its siblings; that car was the 328. The Ferrari 328exhibited several subtle differences from its predecessor, including moulded bumpers, a slightly smaller front grill and aroof spoiler. Pininfarina's designers also smoothed out the shapeof the body to make it appear slightly less aggressive overall.Inside, Ferrari introduced new and more supportive seats andrefined ergonomics with improved general quality to make the car'sdriving experience more intuitive. Mechanically, overall capacitywas raised to 3186cc through increasing the bore and stroke whichhelped to bring maximum horsepower to 270 at 7000rpm. It could alsoreach a top speed of 160mph and travel from 0-60 in a brisk 5.5seconds.This lefthand drive Ferrari 328GTS has recently been importedinto the UK from the USA and comes with the original service booksand a comprehensive history folder confirming the last cambeltservice was carried out on 15th April 2013 at 43,191miles. This pre-ABS example is finished in Rosso with tan leathertrim and unusually, is supplied with two targa panels, one in blackvinyl and one painted in Rosso. It is clear to see this is a 328that has been well maintained and cared for; our inspectionindicated the paintwork to be original and this Ferrari is bestsummed up as a very genuine example. Supplied with a UK V5registration document and a current MoT test certificate, the308/328 is one of the most classical shapes produced by Ferrari inthe 1970's and 80's and this example will not disappoint. Photographs courtesy of Hampshire-Photography -www.hampshire-photography.com

Mercedes-Benz 220SE Cabriolet

Lot # 268 (Sale Order: 68 of 127)

This most elegant example was introduced to the market in 1956and represented one of three new models launched.  The 220Ssaloon featured unitary construction body shells employing large,box-section side-members and with the front suspension sub framedesign a German journalist likened to a pontoon or bridge spanningthe engine bay which gave rise to the term 'Ponton'. Luxuriouslyequipped in the best Daimler-Benz tradition, these superblyconstructed Gran Turismos were priced approximately 70% above theoriginal 220S saloon. The first 220S cabriolet was introduced atthe Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1955 with the firstproduction cabriolet rolling off the assembly in July the followingyear. In 1958, the 220 range was updated with a fuel-injected versionof the 2.2-litre overhead-camshaft six, becoming the 220SE. Powerincreased from 106bhp to 115bhp and, while top speed remainedunchanged at around 100mph, improvements in acceleration reducedthe 0-60mph time by two seconds. When production stopped inNovember 1960, less than 2,000 220 SE coupé and convertible modelshad been manufactured. This car was originally supplied to the USAwith specifications including rear bench seating, external mirrors,Becker radio, whitewall tyres, sealed beam headlights and theHydrak automatic-clutch transmission. These cars were very luxurious for their time and Mercedes-Benzrealised that there was a market for a less expensive, morepersonal motorcar. This was achieved by shortening the chassis ofthe very successful 220 saloon by 4.7 inches and adding lots ofchrome, wood and leather. Still hand-built, these elegant cars werevery driveable. The platform for these are very different fromtheir saloon counterparts. There are additional floorreinforcements to compensate for the absence of a roof, theoverhang behind the rear wheel is longer and longer doors made fora very appealing look to the car and to save weight, they weresteel skimmed over aluminium frames. Lower in weight, with betterstructural strength than the previous model, the 220 was a betterhandling car as well. This particular example was originally finished in graphite greywith cream leather upholstery, matching carpets and burl walnutwood trim. The stunning condition of this model is thanks to majorrestoration works totalling $20,800 carried out on the bodywork, brightwork, exhaust system and interior during 1979 and 1981. Thegraceful styling and exquisitely appointed interiors of these carsmade them the stars of the 'Jet Set' and many found homes withstars and starlets on the Cote d'Azure and in Hollywood.Today these stylish and luxuriously equipped grand tourers arehighly prized for their beauty and rarity. This stunning lefthanddrive yellow 220 SE cabriolet started its journey in the USA andspent the majority of its life in California. Amongst the documentsis the American Automotive Registration Card showing that the carlived in the Monterey/Carmel area of California until the late1970's when it moved ten minutes up the coast to Pebble Beach whereit stayed with its last two American owners. After leaving the USAin 2009, it was bought by a wealthy Japanese businessman andcollector and has only become available recently due to the owner'spassing.?

Mercedes-Benz 280SE Fixedhead Coupé (3.5 litre)

Lot # 269 (Sale Order: 69 of 127)

In the summer of 1965, Mercedes-Benz launched its newreplacements for both W111 and W112 saloons, the W108 and W109respectively. In a bizarre twist of fate, this car's design wasbased on the W111 coupé but widened and squared off as the fintailfashion was quickly fading by the mid 1960s. However, both W111 andW112 models were modernised; the 220SE was superseded by the 250SEwhich featured the new 2,496cc engine, producing 150bhp at 5500rpm,giving it a significant improvement in top speed. Visibly, thechanges only affected the new 14" rims with new wheel trims; thiswas to accommodate the larger disk brakes and the new rear axle. InNovember 1967, the 250SE was superseded by the new 280SE. Inside, the car received wood veneer on the dashboard and other minorchanges. A final model was added in August 1969, the 280SE, 3.5litre. It was fitted with the brand-new M116, 3,499cc, V8 enginewith 200bhp at 5,800rpm, a top speed of 130mph and a 0-100 at 9.5seconds. To accommodate the large engine, the car's front grill waswidened and front bumpers were modified. THe condition of this example should be seen, the meticulous ownerhas spared no expense in the preparation and presentation of thiscar. Indeed, as a collector of some note, his attention to detailis well known. The engine and drive train was removed recently anda significant amount was spent on a complete rebuild of themechanical elements. The paintwork, in lustrous black, dates to aslightly earlier restoration and the interior, in keeping with itsage and condition, has been left in its original state to enhancethe quality and patina of this most elegant of coupés. It alsobenefits from electric windows, power-assisted steering and afactory sunroof.  Powered by the coveted 3.5 litre engine, this great-looking car not only looks superb, but is in fantasticorder under the skin and is reported to drive faultlessly.Interested parties should note that further details willbe available shortly.?

Jensen FF

Lot # 271 (Sale Order: 71 of 127)

The Jensen FF is a four-wheel drive grand tourer producedbetween 1966 and 1971. It was the first non all-terrain productioncar equipped with four-wheel drive and an anti-lock braking system, the Dunlop Maxaret mechanical system, used hitherto only onaircraft, trucks, and racing cars. The use of four-wheel drive in apassenger car preceded the successful Audi Quattro & Subaru bymany years. The letters FF stand for Ferguson Formula afterFerguson Research Limited who invented the car's system. The FF isrelated to the similar-looking, rear-wheel drive Jensen Interceptorbut is five inches longer and mechanically very different. The FFcan be distinguished from the Interceptor by a few styling cues;the most obvious being the twin (rather than single) diagonal airvents on the front wing just rear of the wheel-arches.Originally registered on 23rd September 1969, this Jensen FF isone of only 198 manufactured and presents in very good order. Thewhite coachwork is virtually unmarked as is the black leatherinterior; the chromework - of which there is plenty - on thishandsome example is also in very good condition. Accompanying EMC44H is a good history file with lots of early history of the carand detailed ownership up to 2006. A considerable amount of workappears to have been carried out on this Jensen between 2005 and2010, hence the reason why it presents in such good conditiontoday. Supplied with a V5 registration document and a current MoTtest certificate, a Jensen FF is a fabulous car to look at and evenbetter to drive.  ?

Ferrari Testarossa

Lot # 272 (Sale Order: 72 of 127)

Introduced at the 1984 Paris Salon, the Testarossa caused asensation. The functionality of its Pininfarina styled bodywork wasdisguised by a wealth of flamboyant and futuristic detailing.Developed with the aid of a wind tunnel, it combined a low dragcoefficient with impressive negative lift characteristics. Thefirst twelve-cylinder Ferrari to be marketed in America for adecade, the new flagship was of vital importance to Maranello.Although it was built around a similar tubular steel matrix, itretained the same mid-engined layout as its Berlinetta Boxerforebears. The Testarossa was more than just a simple evolution, its use of galvanised steel for the doors, roof and bulkheadspromised greater longevity, while a longer wheelbase, wider trackand revised all-round double-wishbone coil-over suspension promotedbetter handling. As well as greater interior space, drivers alsobenefitted from an adjustable steering column, re-profiled seatsand air conditioning. Mounting the drive train and rear suspensionon a separate sub-frame meant better noise insulation and easierservicing. The switch from a large front-mounted radiator to twinunits housed in front of each rear resulted in more efficientcooling and less heat soak. Extensively reworked, the 4942cc,flat-12 developing some 390bhp and 362lbft of torque, it was matedto a five-speed manual gearbox but kept in check by twelve-inchdiscs all-round and a limited slip differential. Highly praised bythe contemporary motoring press, Autocar magazine found theTestarossa capable of 181mph and 0-60mph in 5.3 seconds. This European specification 1987 Testarossa was imported to theUK at the beginning of 2012 when it was purchased by a consortiumof collectors.  At the time the odometer reading was 50,400km.Today, the odometer still only reads 51,430km equating to just32,150 miles. It has been fully maintained and looked after byFerrari specialists QV London Limited based in Windsor, Berkshirewho carried out a 6,000 mile service in July this year, removed theengine to replace the cam belts and supplied an MoT testcertificate. Finished in black with a light tan leather interior, this Testarossa is supplied with a V5C registration document, anMoT test certificate which expires in July 2016, a file of theinvoices for the work carried out by QV going back to 2012 and, bythe time of the sale, a new book wallet with parts book andreplacement service book will also be present. Ferraris from thisperiod have become very collectable and superb examples such asthis one are becoming harder to find; this makes them a greatinvestment as they continue to increase in value.?

Ford Capri Mk.II JPS Special

Lot # 275 (Sale Order: 75 of 127)

The Ford Capri was the Ford Mustang of Europe. A mind bogglingarray of options meant that the Capri could be whatever you wantedit to be; just like the Mustang. The Capri was released to thepress on 24th January 1969 at the Brussels Motor Show. There hadpreviously been a press preview in Cyprus but Ford had requestedthat nothing about the new car be published until 24th January tocoincide with the motor show. Surprisingly, this request washonoured and the Capri caused a sensation. The Ford Capri wouldstay in production for 18 years, from 1969 to 1987.An unusually immaculate example of an early Mk. II Capri JPSSpecial Edition, this car is presented in the correct black withblack interior and beige inserts having been restored in 2005 to anincredible standard. It is well worth getting on your hands andknees to take a look at the underside of this coupé which gives anindication as to the quality of both of the initial restoration aswell as the care and ownership ever since. When restored, the 1.6litre engine was replaced with a stronger 2.0 litre unit as theowner at the time insisted that he wished to tour around Europe andvisit all of the major car shows. The differential and gearbox werealso changed and a five-speed manual box added to accompany thedrive train making his drive on the Autobahns of Germany andAutoroutes of France far more appealing. Accompanied by an MoT testcertificate valid until June 2016, unsurprisingly without anyadvisories, and an independent inspection report from May 2015,this example is bound to re-kindle fond memories of the 70s sportscar and with the uprated engine, certainly will not flatter todeceive.
