Published by Macmillan and Co., London, 1893. Very good condition covers, interior good with some spotting. Hugh Thomson (illustrator). First edition. A wonderfully illustrated copy of Mitford's sketches on rural life, including the first time that illustrations by Hugh Thomson appeared in this work. Hugh Thomson was a British illustrator active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He is best known for his illustrations of classic literature, particularly the works of Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, and Thomas Hardy. His illustrations were characterized by their attention to detail and their ability to capture the atmosphere and mood of the texts they accompanied.
