Item Details
The Colt Single Action Army (SAA) is a single-action revolver designed for the U.S. government service revolver trials of 1872 by Colt's Patent Firearms Manufacturing Company and was adopted as the standard military service revolver until 1892. At the beginning of World War II, Colt ceased production of the Single Action Army revolver to devote more time to filling orders for the war. When the war ended, the advent of television and Western themed movies created customer demand for the revolver so Colt resumed manufacturing in 1956 with the Second Generation line of Single Action Army revolvers. These Second Generation Colt Single Action Army revolvers were produced from 1956 to 1974. The Frontier Scout was born in 1957 and was made until 1970. It was 22 caliber SAA that was scaled down slightly and was lighter than its bigger bore brother. A Third Generation SAA began in 1975, characterized by a change in barrel thread pitch and a solid cylinder bushing replacing the removable/replaceable part from the first and second generations. This Colt SAA Frontier Scout (22 LR) 2nd Generation is 1 of 250 made in 1964 to commemorate the St. Louis MO Bicentennial (1764-1964). Features include a 4.75" barrel, polished blued finish (barrel, frame & cylinder) gold finish (ejector rod button, cylinder pin, hammer, trigger, screws, trigger guard and grip strap assembly), varnished walnut grips with gold Roaring Colt medallions and 6-round cylinder. This gun is in good condition with some light wear to include gold finish fading, has a sharp/ clean bore and appears to be in good working order. (A. Rex Winn Estate)
