Item Details
The Colt Model 1911 is a single-action, recoil-operated, semi-automatic pistol chambered for the .45 ACP cartridge. Designed by John Browning, the Model 1911 Colt Government is the best known of his designs to use the short recoil principle in its basic design. The pistol was widely copied, and this operating system rose to become the pre-eminent type of the 20th century and of nearly all modern centerfire pistols. The pistol served as the standard-issue sidearm for the United States Armed Forces from 1911 to 1985, and is widely regarded by gun historians as the best firearm design to date. Battlefield experience in World War I led to some small external changes to the M1911, completed in 1924, the new version was called the M1911 A1. This Colt 1911 was made in 1918 and is left side marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" "1902" & "1913" Patent Dates "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A" & right side marked "No. 268419" "SA". This gun sports updates and restorations to include a high luster bluing finish, National Match barrel bushing (7267718 NM), gold-plated hammer, adjustable aluminum trigger and "U.S." Triangle target sights. Other features include a 5" barrel, checkered walnut grips, grip safety, serrated front strap, grooved rear strap and lanyard ring. This gun is in good condition with some various wear, has a nice sharp/ clean bore and appears to be in good working order.
