Automobile, 1937 Plymouth P4 5-Window Coupe.

Lot # 776 (Sale Order: 76 of 506)

Automobile, 1937 Plymouth 5-Window Coupe. The auto industry had a big year in 1937. Safety glass became mandatory in automobiles and GM recognized the AUW. Across the p...moreond in Nazi Germany, Volkswagen was founded by the German Labor Front. Born was the VW Type 1. The Bug. Designed as the "Peoples Car" it still seems to have that focus. Compact and economical. All these events had major influence on the US auto industry. WWII was on the horizon and the US auto manufacturing was about to slide into a 7 year slump. Cars that were produced before WWII ended up having to extend their use through those years. It's significant that not many survived in the superb original condition like this one. This 1937 Plymouth P4 5-window coupe is an excellent survivor. It comes with its original inline 6-cyl flathead @ 201.3ci with 82hp. It still glistens in paint code 101 black. This is an all original car with original VG condition interior. Only the master cylinder, fuel pump, rotor, points, distributor cap and battery have been replaced. A new gas tank is on order and should be installed by auction time. Starts and runs well. Odometer shows 33,764 miles. VIN #10420052. Sold new between $600-$900. About 67,000 of these were produced. Average household income was $1,780. A new car cost about one third of that. Hmmm, times have changed!

Automobile, 1955 Citroen.

Lot # 777 (Sale Order: 77 of 506)

Automobile, 1955 Citroen 4-door with suicide front doors. This series of Citroens were classic French cars and they stayed classics. Originally designed in 1933, they we...morere introduced in 1934 and were made until 1955 without any body change. They may remind you of the 1934 Ford and they have the same unique look among European cars. They have a 116ci 4 cylinder engine offering 54hp with a three speed transmission. They are a front wheel drive car, which was almost unheard of in 1934. During WWII, the Germans confiscated many of them for staff cars because they were front wheel drive and could negotiate the mud. Not many of them survived the war. The shift lever is on the dash rather than the column and the shift pattern is a mirror image of the standard "H" pattern on American cars. This one is black with a plush red interior. Shows 77,817 kilometers = 48,354 miles. VIN # SE3191423504.

Automobile, 1950 Nash.

Lot # 778 (Sale Order: 78 of 506)

Automobile, 1950 Nash Statesman Super Airflyte. The first generation of the Nash Statesman was introduced for the 1950 model year. It was offered as a 2-door sedan or a 2...more-door coupe, all of which were fitted w/a 3.0L inline six-cyl engine.  Positioned between top line Nash Ambassador and above the Nash Rambler. Nash developed its post-World War II automobiles using an advanced unit body construction w/fast back aerodynamic styling under the Airflyte name, reflecting a popular styling trend in the 1950's.  A distinguishing feature of all Nashes are the "skirted" fenders.  Two-door models, like this one, included Nash's exclusive "Airliner Reclining" front passenger seat that could be converted to form a bed. Statesman engine designs were based on the L-head Nash Light Six engine that was designed in the 1920's and continued into the 1940's .  It is characterized by the lack of intake and exhaust manifolds.  The Statesman models were lighter resulting in fuel efficiency as reported by owners and testers. This one is in perfect running condition w/a new master cylinder.  This Statesman looks like it could've been on a used car lot in 1954 or '55 and someone bought and put it in controlled storage for the next 70+ years! This is an excellent survivor. Odometer shows just 67,392 miles. VIN #K 430771.

Automobile, 1984 Pontiac Fiero SE.

Lot # 779 (Sale Order: 79 of 506)

Automobile, 1984 Pontiac Fiero SE. "Bought from a buddy in a bar late one night," says Doug. Both participants in the deal may have been "over served." Doug says, "Never...more do that again!" The next day it became clear that at 6' 2" 190 lb man and a Fiero is not a good choice. This car seemed to be a great idea in the 1980's, championed by a new Pontiac VP Bill Hoglund. Coming from a couple decades of building muscle cars, it seemed to make a bit of sense. Pontiac was supposed to be the "Excitement Division". Here was a brand new idea. The Fiero, in Italian meaning "Very Proud", in Spanish, "Fierce." A lot to live up to in a smart compact sporty car. And GM needed a fuel efficient car. This could be it! The car had some interesting leading edge ideas: transverse, mid-engine rear-wheel-drive. The only engine available in 1984 was the "Iron Duke". It was a cast iron 4 cylinder, 171ci 92 hp engine. All in a sporty compact fuel efficient commuter car. GM put it together from a lot of components from other compacts in their lines. And it was shaped by noted designers Hulki Aldikacti and George Milidrag. Sure seemed like it should work. But the problem may well have been amplified by the issues Doug Gethmann identified when he first tried it on! The car was indeed COMPACT. The run of Fieros lasted 5 years with total production being just over 300,000 cars. This car, conceptually, has a lot going for it. The ideas made sense for the time. It is a cool looking car. For a smaller in stature person, this could be a great car. The car seems to be sound. It hasn't been driven recently, (because Doug can't get in it). Could be a great car for a daughter or son in college, unless they play basketball or football! It has air, sunroof and 4-speed. Interior looks excellent as does under the hood. Body condition looks good and odometer shows 74,833 miles. VIN# 1G2AF37R1EP273380

Automobile, 1954 Ford.

Lot # 780 (Sale Order: 80 of 506)

Automobile. Here's one Classic 1952 Ford Crestline 2-door coupe in classic 1960's custom modifications. The Crestline had a short life cycle in Ford's lineup. It was pro...moreduced over just three years, 1952-1954. The 1952 Crestline production run built just over 175,000 cars. This car came with the original 239ci, 132hp Ford flathead. It's backed by the standard "three on the tree". 1952 was close to the last year for this legendary flathead engine in the Ford line. 1954 saw the introduction of their OHV power plant. This '52 was the pride & joy of a local Street Rod customizer. The signature on the glove box lid says it all, "Bein' Old Ain't All Bad." This "Old Yeller" recently turned 70! Complete with the fuzzy dice on the rear view mirror & the steering wheel spinner knob with matching knob on the shifter, this looks just like it should've looked in the 1960s. The 1952 had all those jet engine era design features, including jet airplane hood ornament and ornamental air intake side vents leading the rear wheel wells. This was supposed to look like it was going fast when it was standing still! All that chrome on the front end was toned back with a painted grill bar. Headlights & tail lights were toned back too. Sidepipes & chrome wheels with baby moons finished it off. This one does pass the 60's custom standard and it runs and drives well too! VIN# B2SP101441. Odometer shows 75,578 miles.

1992 Suzuki Carry.

Lot # 781A (Sale Order: 82 of 506)

Pickup, 1992 Suzuki Carry. This fun little round-about-town vehicle was spotted at a nursery auction. It speaks to you, just like it will speak to those who see it on the...more road! That's cute! What a crazy truck! It's right hand drive. Unless you're from the UK, that will take some getting used to. It has a "F6A" 657cc 3 cylinder engine that gives you 42hp and comes with a 4-speed manual transmission. Shift with the left hand on this one. It has 4WD and a 2-speed hi-low transfer case. This has got to be fun to drive. It has great flexibility as well. The tailgate and box sides fold down flat to make a wider bed or clear down to make a smaller flat bed or come off completely. A Chevy Bowtie was added on the front. Just an extra touch to confuse the boys. One more tiny feature to add to the fun as you're on the road. Shows 90,215 kilometers = 56,057 miles.
