CIVIL WAR ALBUMEN CHATTANOOGA BRIDGE BUILT 1864 OVER TENNESSEE RIVER

Civil War albumen photograph with the handwritten caption "Chattanooga Bridge built over the Tennessee River. Built in 1864 by QM Maj. H.M. Smith". Printed beneath that i...moren block letters is "U.S. STEAMER WAUHATCHIE".which is pictured afloat in the river. Written in pen along the bottom edge in reference to the U.S.S. Wauhatchie is "built at Bridgeport Ala." The information about the building of the bridge is also written on the back of the image along with the notation "Prop. (property) Maj. Horatio M. Smith of Orwell O (Ohio)". The image itself is 9.5" x 8.625" and is mounted on a 13.5" x 11.5" cardstock mount. Horatio Smith, a resident of Orwell, Ohio in Ashtabula County, enlisted as a private in Company K, 105th Ohio Volunteer Infantry on 8/21/1862. He moved up in rank becoming the 1st Lieutenant of Co. K, 105th O.V.I. on 1/18/1863.On 12/5/1863, he was discharged for promotion into the Quartermaster Department. While he was in the 105th, the regiment fought at Perrysville, Hoover's Gap, Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge, and Chattanooga. During this time he suffered a bayonet wound in his right thigh that resulted in partial paralysis of the right thigh and leg. As Department quartermaster in Chattanooga, Smith played an essential role in supplying Sherman's Army during the Atlanta Campaign. He was Mustered Out on 3/13/1866. In-house shipping is available. West Virginia Veteran's medal issued to Thomas Driscol, Battery C, 1st Regiment West Virginia Light Artillery. This medal has the "Honorably Discharged" suspension bar de...moresignating that Driscol was not wounded or did not die during his service. The original ribbon is present but detached from the medal. Rim is engraved "THOs DRISCOL BATTY C 1st REG Lt. ARTILLERY VOLS". The Battery was organized at Wheeling, West Virginia in 1862 and mustered out in 1865. During its time of service, 33 men of Battery C were killed or died of wounds. 106 of the 173 men in the Battery were from Washington County, Ohio. The battery was engaged at Cross Keys, Port Republic, Cedar Mountain (reserve), Rappahannock Station, Gainesville, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Bristoe Campaign, Mine Run Campaign, and Defenses of Washington D.C. While Driscol's exact muster out date is not listed on the Civil War Database, the following three references indicate that he was still serving with the Battery until at least after the Gettysburg Campaign; Broadfoot's Soldier Index for West Virginia, Washington County Ohio Soldier's Index by Newton, and West Virginia Adjutant General Report for 1864. CIVIL WAR 66TH ILLINOIS INFANTRY POW CERTIFICATE BIRGE'S WESTERN SHARPSHOOTERS

Civil War Illinois State Association of Union Prisoners of War Life Membership certificate issued to Peter L. Edwards in 1881. The certificate records that he was taken p...morerisoner August 1863 near Corinth and confined for 9 months in military prisons at Mobile, Alabama, Atlanta, Georgia, and Belle Isle, Virginia. He was exchanged in May 1864 at St. Louis, Missouri. Peter L. Edwards was born in Lincoln County, Kentucky ca. 1835. As a resident of St. Louis he enlisted in September 1861 at Benton Barracks as a Corporal in Co. A of the 66th Illinois Volunteer Infantry - Birge's Western Sharpshooters. Records indicate that he was slightly wounded in the leg. He mustered out of the 66th Illinois in October 1864. In February 1865 he enlisted in the 152nd Illinois Volunteer Infantry at Camp Butler. He died in 1916 at Iola, Kansas and is buried in Independence, Kansas. The 66th Illinois fought at Mt. Zion, Ft. Donelson, Shiloh, Corinth, Atlanta Campaign, and Bentonville. The certificate measures 16.75" x 13.5" and features a beautiful patriotic eagle motif and is in excellent condition. The handwriting is very legible with no fading. The 66th Illinois Infantry was the Midwest's version of Berdan's Sharpshooters. The regiment was composed of recruits from Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Missouri, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and even one recruit from New York City. From the time of its inception until November 1861, the regiment was known as Birge's Western Sharpshooters after their Colonel Henry Birge. Upon his departure in late 1861 the regiment was designated as the 14th Missouri Infantry. It retained this designation until the late fall of 1862 when the regiment was turned over to the state of Illinois and was renamed the 66th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. In order to join, a recruit had to pass a difficult shooting test. The regiment was originally armed with Dimick rifles although many members eventually purchased and used Henry Rifles. CIVIL WAR 63RD PENNSYLVANIA INF. SOLDIER MEMORIAL

Civil War "easel" style memorial for James K. P. McCullough of Co. A, 63rd Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Regiment. This chromolithograph memorial was copyrighted by J.D...more. Carnahan in 1891 and published by the Dux Publishing Co., Chicago, Illinois. It was presented to McCullough by his wife on September 20, 1895. The memorial itself measures 24" x 32" and is housed in its original vintage 29" x 37" frame. Two D-ring picture hangers are already attached making this piece ready to hang. This style memorial was made with a blank center section so that the soldier's service history could be added. McCullough's service was entered and in summary states that McCullough enlisted at Turtle Creek, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania on August 1, 1862. He was captured at the Wilderness but escaped. During McCullough's term of service with the 63rd, the regiment participated in the battles of Second Bull Run, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Auburn, Kelly's Ford, Mine Run, Wilderness, Spotsylvania, North Anna, Totopotomoy, Cold Harbor, and Petersburg. On September 16, 1864, he transferred into the 105th Pennsylvania Infantry as a Corporal, was promoted to Sergeant and took part in the battles of Weldon R.R., Boyton Road, Hatcher's Run, Sailor's Creek, Farmville, and Appomattox Court House. He was discharged July 11, 1865. The last entry on the memorial notes that he was a member of G.A.R. Post 36 in Berrien Center, Michigan. He is listed on the Pennsylvania Monument at Gettysburg as being present during the battle. Memorial is in excellent condition with no creases tears or water stains. In-house shipping is available. The image is identified on the obverse, "Harrison Judd California Cavalry". The Id is repeated on the reverse, "Harrison Judd Co. M 1st Cal. Cav." Born in Ravenna, Ohio, Judd moved West and in 1863 enlisted in Red Bluff, Tehama Co. California. During the war, his company was engaged with Kiowa and Apache Indians throughout new Mexico and Northern Texas. During one of these engagements he was wounded in the leg. During his service he was stationed at Camp Goodwin Near Tucson in Arizona Territory, and at Las Cruces, Hatch's Ranch, Blue Water Creek, Fort Craig, Fort Bascom, Baird's Ranch, and Fort Selden in New Mexico. After the War, Judd returned to his home state of Ohio. In-house shipping is available. CIVIL WAR 1861 ARMY REGULATIONS IDED TO CHAPLAIN 5TH NEW YORK HEAVY ARTILLERY

Civil War 1861 Revised Regulations published by J. G. L. Brown, Philadelphia. Pencil notation at front reads, "W. A. Barnes book received of Col. Samuel Graham of 5th Art...moreillery, May 1862". William Ashbury Barnes enlisted as Chaplain of the 5th New York Heavy Artillery at New York City on 1/8/1862 and mustered in as Chaplain on 3/8/1862. Samuel A. Graham enlisted as Colonel of the 5th New York Heavy Artillery on 3/6/1862. The inside of the front cover is inscribed "W.A. Barnes 1862 Baltimore Md". The 5th served for a while in Baltimore beginning May 28, 1862. This manual - book is in overall good - very good condition with some staining & soiling on the inside cover and a few pages. The binding is tight and intact. There are no missing pages. Companies A & C were taken prisoner at Harpers Ferry September 15, 1862 during the Antietam Campaign. Throughout the course of its service the regiment was assigned to the Middle Department, Military District of Washington and Department of West Virginia. During its existence the 5th NYHA served as both infantry and heavy artillery and fought in numerous battles including Piedmont, Lynchburg, Snicker's Gap, Halltown, Winchester, and Cedar Creek. There is a...more dent on the plain back side of the flask.The spout features graduated powder pour slots. The cap is missing the lever and attachment screws. Manufacturer stamped on the top of the cap "AM Flask & Cap Co". The flask with spout measures 8" x 3.25". The side loops add an additional .5" to the overall width. In-house shipping is available.
