Smith & Wesson Model 52-A 38 AMU Semi-Automatic Pistol with Box

Lot # 3681 (Sale Order: 681 of 749)

Very Rare Smith & Wesson Model 52-A 38 AMU Semi-Automatic Pistol with Box

Manufactured from 1961-1964 expressly for the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU). It is chambered in the .38 AMU cartridge, which was developed by the AMU armorers of Fort Benning, Georgia for the unit. Only 87 of the pistols were produced, all of which fall in the serial number range 35850-35927. It is rumored that the low production is due to the aluminum frames being unable to hold up to long term firing, because of this they were released to the public. The barrel bears the standard "38 A.M.U. CTG." marking with the otherwise standard Model 52 markings. Includes the original factory box, and cleaning rod with brush. This example is consecutively numbered to the next lot.

Class: Curio & Relic Handgun

Miami Vice Used Heinie Upgraded Colt Government Model Pistol

Lot # 3687 (Sale Order: 687 of 749)

Extremely Desirable Well Documented Richard Heinie's Personal Full House Package Upgraded Colt MK IV Series 80 Government Model Semi-Automatic Pistol as Used in Miami Vice and Seen on the Cover of the March/April 1986 Issue of American Handgunner Magazine

Manufactured in 1984, this Colt MK IV Series 80 Government Model pistol became the "B" package prototype for Richard Heinie's famed competition pistols. This package was one of Heinie's two "Full House" packages which took the standard Colt Government Models and fine tuned it to dominate IPSC matches. To achieve this on the "B" package, the slide is shortened to allow for a compensator to be added. This gives the pistol the sight radius of a 6 inch slide preferred by many competition shooters while reducing felt recoil. Along with the standard Colt roll marks, the pistol has been stamped "R. Heinie" below the serial number, and "RH136" behind the Swenson ambidextrous safety. An included letter from the consignor states that the original rear sight was replaced with the current Bomar sight by Heinie. This pistol can be seen in action on the cover of the March/April 1986 issue of American Handgunner magazine, a Richard Heinie autographed copy of which is included with the pistol. In the article the author states that this very pistol was the personal firearm of Heinie, and as such included all the bells and whistles one would want in a custom gun. This magnificent pistol made its way onto television screens across the United States on September 26, 1986 during prime time in the hands of Liam Neeson and Walter Gotell in the first episode of Miami Vice's third season. Included with this piece of custom 1911 history is the aforementioned American Handgunner magazine with this pistol as the cover story, a letter from Richard Heinie to the subsequent owner about the cover story, a January 25, 1987 Peoria Journal Star newspaper article about Heinie, a copy of the January/February 1992 issue of American Handgunner with Heinie as the cover story, a hard case, and Miami Vice Season Three on DVD.

Class: Modern Handgun

Very fine, showing a lifetime of well cared for use with minor handling marks and some discoloration on the compensator and in the slide serrations, crisp frame, triggerguard, and mainspring housing serrations. Grips are excellent with a few minor handling marks and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. This is your chance to own a piece of Miami Vice history, and an iconic custom 1911 owned by Richard Heinie himself!
