Tomasoni Engraved Ivo Fabbri Sidelock Double Barrel Shotgun

Lot # 3552 (Sale Order: 552 of 749)

Factory Master Claudio Tomasoni Signed and Game Scene Engraved Ivo Fabbri Sidelock Double Barrel Shotgun with Case

Ivo Fabbri got his start in firearms along side one of the most well-known names in the business: Daniele Perazzi. After they split, Perazzi went on to create arguably the world's finest sporting guns, and Fabbri perused his dream to build the finest guns in the world, with this gun being true to that end. Fabbri only builds some 30 guns a year, each is hand crafted from the ground up by some of Italy's finest craftsmen, making guns such as these scarcely offered at public sale. This gun was built with blued chopperlump barrels featuring a single bead sight on the matted flat solid rib, "BOHLER SUPER BLITZ STEEL" marked on the right tube, "IVO FABBRI BRESCIA MADE IN ITALY" marked on the left tube, and a single band of engraving at either breech. The flats are marked with Italian proofs which indicate 70mm (2 3/4 inch) chambers with automatic ejectors. The barrels are fitted to a highly attractive coin finished sidelock action which displays extensive detailed floral scrollwork on all sides encompassing a trio of game bird scenes before extending onto the toplever, triggerguard, and both tangs. The game scenes consist of a flock of mallards in flight over a pond with a farm house in the background on the left, four snipe in flight with one taking a load of shot from the hunter visible in the background on the underside, and a covey of grouse fleeing an unseen hunter whom has struck two of the bird on the right. The gun is signed on both lockplates "Tomasoni" for Italian Master Engraver Claudio Tomasoni who has completed this exceptional work of art. The gun features a single trigger, cocking indicators on either lockplate, and a manual tang safety. The wood is gorgeous with contrasting figure and multi-point checkering on the beavertail forend which has engraved fittings and Anson button release as well as the pistol grip stock which shows "D.K." inlaid in gold near the toe and a factory rubber recoil pad. Included is an oak & leather takedown case with canvas cover containing nickel snap caps, a nickel oiler, and a set of cleaning tools. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech proofed at 18.4/18.5mm (.724/.728 inches) and measured .731/.733 inches; choke constriction .022/.034 inches; minimum wall thickness .028/.027 inches; 1 7/16 inch drop at comb; 1 9/16 inch drop at heel; 14 1/8 inch length of pull; cast-off; weight 7 lbs. 7 oz.
