Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum Transitional Post-War Revolver

Lot # 576 (Sale Order: 573 of 664)

Incredibly Rare State of Kansas Shipped Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum Transitional Post-War Double Action Revolver with Factory Letter

This is one of only about 142 .357 Magnum transitional post-war revolvers in all barrel lengths manufactured by S&W from late 1946 to 1949. These revolvers were similar in appearance to their pre-war counterparts but with a new micrometer rear sight and a "S" prefix serial number, and a vast majority were ordered by law enforcement agencies, like this example which was ordered by the State of Kansas. As confirmed by the included factory letter, the revolver was shipped on December 23, 1948 and delivered to W.A. Thompson Co. of Topeka, Kansas, with a 5 inch barrel, blue finish, an checkered walnut grips. As noted in the factory letter, "This shipment was for 50 units for the State of Kansas [Highway Patrol]." Matching serial numbers appear on the butt, cylinder, and ejector shroud.

Class: Curio & Relic Handgun

Very fine as a law enforcement procured revolver displaying authentic wear and tear of spending a lifetime in the line of duty, retaining 85% original blue finish with holster wear and grips strap worn gray from spending years in the hand. The very good grips show similar "working gun" character with mostly crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.

"Wolf & Klar" Smith & Wesson .44 Hand Ejector 3rd Model Target

Lot # 577 (Sale Order: 574 of 664)

Rare "Wolf & Klar" Smith & Wesson .44 Hand Ejector 3rd Model Target Double Action Revolver with Box and Factory Letter

Also known as the Model 1926 Hand Ejector Pre-War, the .44 Hand Ejector 3rd Model "Wolf & Klar" double action revolver was manufactured from 1926 to 1941. This model was usually available on special order only, not catalogued until 1940 and had a shrouded extractor barrel as requested by the Fort Worth, Texas dealer Wolf & Klar. Offered here is a rare target version with a 6 1/2 inch barrel. It has been estimated that fewer than 100 were manufactured. The accompanying factory letter confirms the finish, barrel length, and Call gold bead front sight. It was shipped on November 15, 1940, and delivered to the Kennedy Brothers Arms Co. of St. Paul, Minnesota. The revolver has standard S&W markings, Magna grips, casehardened checkered humpback hammer and serrated trigger and matching serial numbers stamped on the butt, ejector shroud, cylinder and right grip panel. The assembly number "13282" is marked on the yoke and crane. Comes with two bore brushes and the original factory box properly numbered to the gun and hand marked "Target."

Class: Curio & Relic Handgun

Excellent plus. The revolver retains 99% original blue finish showing a light cylinder drag line. 99% plus original case colors remain on the hammer and trigger. The grips are near new with crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. The box is fine showing a few split corners and some minor edge wear. Most of the end label remains. A beautiful example of a very rare and factory documented boxed S&W .44 Hand Ejector 3rd Model Target revolver with impeccable collection provenance that would be hard to improve upon.

Smith & Wesson K-32 Hand Ejector First Model Target Revolver

Lot # 578 (Sale Order: 575 of 664)

Extremely Rare, Documented Smith & Wesson K-32 Hand Ejector First Model Target Double Action Revolver with Factory Letter

This is one of only 94 K-32 Hand Ejector Target revolvers Smith & Wesson manufactured from 1936 to 1941. These revolvers are found in the approximate 653388-682207 serial number range and are built on the .38 Military & Police of the 1905, 4th Change frame and pinned 6 inch round barrel. This example (no. 653372) falls just short of the accepted start of the serial number range. It is one of the rarest pre-war K frame revolvers manufactured by S&W with only approximately 94 manufactured. After World War II this model became part of the K-22/K-32/K-38 Masterpiece series of target revolvers. The accompanying factory letter states the revolver was ordered through Von Lengerke & Antonio Co. of Chicago, Illinois, shipped on March 13, 1936, and delivered to Walter L. Palla of Princeton, Illinois, with a 6 inch barrel in .32 S&W Long caliber, blue finish, .38 M&P target frame, and sights set for a 6 o'clock hold. It was billed at $25.99, and it is not often that we catalog S&W shipped to an individual. These were special order revolvers offered by S&W before the formal announcement to the public that the gun was available for general sales, and in the factory records these extremely rare pre-war revolvers are listed as a .38 M&P Target in .32 caliber. The checkered silver S&W medallion grips are numbered to another gun. Matching serial numbers appear on the butt, cylinder, and barrel.

Class: Curio & Relic Handgun

Excellent, retaining 98% plus bright original high polish blue finish showing a cylinder drag line and minimal handling marks. 97% original case colors remain on the hammer and trigger. The replacement grips are excellent with a few handling marks on the bottom and overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
