Walther Second Issue Zero Series P.38 Pistol with Holster

Lot # 454 (Sale Order: 453 of 664)

Rare, Among the Finest Known, Early World War II Production German Walther "Concealed Extractor" Zero Series P.38 Semi-Automatic Pistol Serial Number "0268" with Experimental Holster, Extra Magazine, and U.S. Capture Certificate

Manufactured in 1939 as a part of the early "Zero Series", which along with the other issues of the series served as test production runs of the P.38 pistol for issue and field testing by the German military before formal adoption. These were the first production run of the P.38 to follow a consistent mechanical layout on a serial production basis, commonly referred to as "concealed extractor P.38s" by collectors due to the recessed location of the extractor that does not protrude from the side of the slide, as referenced on page 166-169 in "The P.38 Pistol: Volume I" by Warren H. Buxton. With a serial production estimated to not exceed 965, this relatively small number of pistols faced hard use as some of the first issued P.38 pistols for the German army, making early Zero Series pistols in very fine, let alone exceptional, condition with matching components exceedingly rare and highly sought after by serious collectors. Features fixed blade front and notch rear sights, checkered takedown lever, and a scarce rectangular firing pin also referred to by collectors as a "square pin". The right of the slide is marked with "eagle/359" and "eagle/swastika" proofs, with the left side of the slide marked with "Walther banner" and "P.38", along with more "eagle/359" proofs stamped on multiple components. Matching visible serial numbers on the barrel, slide, and frame, with matching "268/a" partial on the locking block. Fitted with a pair of checkered black polymer grips with "eagle/359" proofs and matching "268" partials, along with an unnumbered "eagle/135" proofed and "P.38v" marked blued magazine. Includes a "P.38" marked experimental black leather flap holster and extra unmarked magazine. Also accompanying the pistol is a "A-G USFET Form No 33" and "OFFICIAL/HEADQUARTERS UNITED STATES FORCES EUROPEAN THEATER" marked capture certificate, listing "1. Pistol Model P-38 Cal. 38 #0268/Nothing Follows" as the trophy of a Pvt. Lewankski of the "Mg. BN. Batt. A", dated Dec. 6, 1945.

Class: Curio & Relic Handgun

Excellent overall, retaining 90% plus original Walther factory high gloss blue finish with light holster pattern edge wear, minor handling marks, crisp grip checkering, and minor specs of oxidation on the grip straps. The holster is excellent with minor flex marks on the flap. Mechanically excellent. A truly standout example of the earliest confirmed serial production P.38s, preserved as captured by a U.S.G.I. during the occupation period after the war in Europe ended in May 1945.

Lot # 455 (Sale Order: 454 of 664)

DWM Model 1902 Luger Semi-Automatic Carbine with Shoulder Stock and Scabbard

This is a fine restored example of a DWM Model 1902 Luger carbine. These carbines were an attempt by DWM to a produce a lightweight rifle substitute. There were a total of 2,500 of this model reportedly produced in two serial number blocks. The desirable features of these carbines include the long frame, flat mainspring, grip safety, dished toggles, recessed/flat breech bolt, and the 11 3/4 inch barrel. Due to the longer barrel, these carbines have a small spring accelerator mechanism in the forearm that aids in cycling. Fitted with a three position rear sight (adjustable from 100-300 meters) mounted on top of the barrel in front of the receiver and a bead front sight mounted on a ramp on top of the barrel. The top of the chamber area is blank, and the front toggle has the DWM logo. Full serial number marked on the frame extension and the underside of the barrel. The last two digits of the serial number are marked on the bottom of the recoil lug, inside the forend, grip safety, trigger, takedown lever, side plate, breech bolt, and toggle assembly. It has been fitted with a set of reproduction walnut grips marked with matching numbers "00" on the insides. The included professionally made reproduction walnut shoulder stock features a checkered wrist, lower sling swivel, black horn buttplate, with the attaching iron matching numbered "00" on top. It comes with a nickel plated magazine with "GERMANY/7,65" marked on the wooden base. Replacement trigger lever. Krieghoff "Post-War Commercial" Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol

Lot # 456 (Sale Order: 455 of 664)

Scarce Krieghoff "Post-War Commercial" Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol

Manufactured in 1945 during the American occupation of Suhl, the "Post-War Commercial" run of Krieghoff Lugers was made chiefly using components left over as surplus from Luftwaffe contract production, plus some recorded spare components from other manufacturers. Reportedly, a number of these pistols were destined for presentation to the occupation authorities as gifts, with a number also sold through the American Post Exchange system. Blade front and notch rear sights, with an unnumbered "eagle/135" marked barrel, undated chamber, Luftwaffe "stick wing eagle" on the receiver and "eagle/L2" on the receiver, frame rail and breech block. Large digit "88" serial number marked on the frame, receiver, the interior of the sideplate and on the alloy magazine base, with the other components unnumbered. "W-1900", possibly an inventory or registration number, has been added to the rear of the frame and right side of the receiver. Minor variations can be seen in bluing color between the barrel, receiver and toggle links, appropriate to the use of varied components in construction.

World War II Gustloffe-Werke Semi-Automatic Pistol

Lot # 457 (Sale Order: 456 of 664)

Very Scarce World War II Gustloff-Werke Semi-Automatic Pistol

A scarce example of a World War II Gustloff-Werke semi-automatic pistol. Although unverified, it is estimated that only approximately 240 of these "production" pistols were manufactured before the factory was bombed in 1944. About half of the total production were manufactured with zinc frames, while the other half featured frames made of steel like this example. The development of this pistol design started in 1938 under the direction of Fritz Sauckel, Gauleiter of Thuringia, and was manufactured by the Gustloff-Werke. Mechanically, the design is similar to the Walther Model PP, though with a simplified single action trigger mechanism and a takedown block independent of the trigger guard. The design was also reportedly submitted to the German military in early 1940, proposed as a possible replacement police weapon, though the scheme never took off. Exact production numbers are unverified. This example is numbered "1192" on the left of the frame, featuring a raised sighting rib with a fixed blade front sight and notch rear sights, with "G" over the two-line address "GUSTLOFF-WERKE/WAFFENWERK SUHL" marked on the left side of the slide and "eagle/N" proofs on the right rear of the frame and slide. Fitted with a pair of "G" marked checkered walnut grips. Matching number "92" marked on a few small components, including on the inside of both grip panels. Includes a replacement Walther PP magazine modified to fit the pistol and a generic soft case.

Class: Curio & Relic Handgun

Very good, retaining 30% faded original blue finish with scattered light edge wear, minor pitting, scattered light spotting/brown patina, and scattered light handling marks. Grips are also very good with slight warping to both panels and a hairline crack in the left panel. Mechanically fine.

Late War "bnz" Marked Steyr Production VIS-35/P35(p) Pistol

Lot # 458 (Sale Order: 457 of 664)

Very Scarce Late War "bnz" Marked Steyr Production VIS-35 Semi-Automatic Pistol

Originally the main sidearm of Poland's military, the VIS-35 was rebranded the P35(p) and pressed into service by the Germans following their invasion and occupation of Poland. While chiefly made in Poland using Radom's plant, Steyr was involved both in a supervisory role and in parts supply, before also making complete P35(p)s on their own. Production was relatively limited, with records destroyed by aerial bombing and the Soviet occupation of Austria, but it is believed that full pistol production at Steyr only took place in 1944-1945. Only the latest production Steyr P35(p) pistols used the "bnz" marking style, essentially making it the "last ditch" variant. Overall features are consistent with late war Radoms, with the takedown hook and stock notch eliminated. Fixed sights, with "bnz", "eagle/swastika" and a faint Waffenamt proof on the left side of the slide, a faint "eagle/623" on the left side of the triggerguard, and "eagle/swastika" and "eagle/623" on the left side of the barrel lug. Matching numbers are present on the right side of the frame, underside of the slide, and left side of the barrel lug. The magazine catch, slide stop, grip screws, rear sight, decocker lever and ring hammer are all blued, the latter properly configured with a notch for the decocker for takedown purposes. Grips are ribbed hardwood, with a blued magazine.

Class: Curio & Relic Handgun

Very fine, with 80% of the original gray phosphate finish, with mild spotting and edge wear overall, tool marks around the rear sight, a thumbprint-sized patch of mild pitting on the right rear of the slide, and minor handling marks. The blued components retain 80% finish, with bright wear and minor spotting. The grips are very good, with chipping concentrated on the right side and some minor dings overall. Mechanically excellent.

1939 Dated Radom VIS-35 "Polish Eagle" Pistol with Holster

Lot # 459 (Sale Order: 458 of 664)

1939 Dated Radom VIS-35 "Polish Eagle" Semi-Automatic Pistol with Holster

Manufactured in 1939 the VIS-35 Pistol was the standard sidearm of Poland and following the invasion and occupation in September 1939, it became a secondary arm for the Wehrmacht. The pre-Occupation pistols show a level of fit and finish not seen on the ones produced for the Germans, and bear the Polish Eagle on the left side of the slide between the model, date and patent markings. Fixed sights with "F.B. RADOM/1939r." and "VIS-wz.35/pat.Nr.15567" on the left side of the slide, numerous small proofs on both sides of the trigger guard. Matching numbers are present on the frame, slide and extractor, with the barrel numbered "8522" on the rear of the lug. Equipped with a takedown catch and a slotted back strap for mounting a stock, both features eliminated during the occupation, and fitted with a pair of checkered grips marked "FB" and "VIS" on the left and right side, respectively. Includes a German military brown leather flap holster.

Class: Curio & Relic Handgun

Very fine as assembled, with 80% of the original blue finish, showing some bright wear on the high edges, sides of the trigger and under the decocker lever, a mixed gray and brown patina concentrated on the gripstraps, minor spotting and light handling marks. The grips are excellent, with a few light dings and scuffs, and the grip screws showing some spotting and tool marks. Mild scuffs and cracks are visible on the very good holster, which remains supple with strong stitching. Mechanically excellent.

Lot # 462 (Sale Order: 461 of 664)

Fine World War II German Walther Third Issue Zero Series P.38 Semi-Automatic Pistol

Part of the initial run of Walther's military production P.38 pistols, the Zero Series served to "fine tune" the Walther HP to Wehrmacht specifications as an important stage in the pistol's development. This particular example is a third variant of that series, fitted with fixed blade front and notch rear sights, a round firing pin, a serrated takedown lever, and an exposed extractor. The slide is marked with the Walther banner and "P.38" on the left, with "eagle/359" proofs on various components, matching full serial number marked on the slide, frame, and barrel, along with matching partial numbers on the locking block and inside the grips. WWII German K43 "ac 45" Sniper Rifle with ZF4 Scope

Lot # 463 (Sale Order: 462 of 664)

World War II German K43 "ac 45" Sniper Semi-Automatic Rifle with ZF4 Scope

This is a late war K43 Rifle that was manufactured by the Walther factory in early 1945. These rifles were the German's answer to the U.S. M1 Garand and the Russian Tokarev SVT38 rifle in that they provided an significant increase in semi-automatic fire. This rifle is fitted with the rough, late war type three cast receiver that has only the single bolt guide on the left side, which is marked on the left side of the receiver with a single Eagle firing proof, Eagle 359 Waffenamt/K43/ac 45/ 381c. The bolt carrier is also the late war version that has reinforcing web directly behind the front edge, but it is not marked with the reversed 45, that still retains the cocking knob on the left side with the bolt hold open latch on the right side. The action cover is the late war stamped version with the sliding dust cover. It has the standard front and rear sight with the standard length barrel that is not fitted with a muzzle nut. The right side of the action has the integral dovetailed scope base and it has been fitted with an original (non-matching) Walther proofed ZF4 sniper scope mount and scope. The mount is an earlier version that was originally fitted to two different rifles as it carries a serial number on both ends. The rear most portion of the mount is numbered "49075", there is a single Eagle 359 Waffenamt in the center with the front end numbered "8889". The scope is late war version made by the Voigtlander & Sohns Braunschweig, and is marked "Gw ZF4/49075/ddx", that is fitted with the blued scope bands and locking lever. The stock and handguard are the correct late war laminated versions with the cupped buttplate. The right and under side of the buttstock have a single small Eagle 359 proof. This rifle is complete with an original unmarked leather sling, a cleaning rod, front sight cover, rubber eyepiece, two original WWII spare magazines, correctly marked on the side K43 with a standard Waffenamt proof, and a clear plastic M1911A1 pistol invasion cover.

Class: Curio & Relic Long Gun

Very fine with 85% of the blue/phosphate metal finish with some light blue wear on the edges and high spots, with some blue loose and thinning on the muzzle area, the left side of the receiver, and the action cover. The refinished stock and handguard are both fine and show an old, very light sanding that has been hand rubbed with varnish or linseed oil, that still retains the visible proofmarks on the sides. Mechanically excellent. The scope retains 90% of its original blue finish with light wear and blue loose on the front end of the scope and the scope body itself. The optics are clear, with no specks that have just a little hazy/blurriness around the edges. The magazines are all in very good condition.

Exceptionally Fine World War II German J. P. Sauer & Son "ce/42" Code K98k Bolt Action Rifle

An exceptionally fine example of an early transitional model K98k manufactured in 1942 before J.P. Sauer & Son, along with other German military small arms manufacturers at the time, simplified serializing and acceptance as a general rationalization of German manufacturing after production requirements increased with the failure of Operation Barbarossa. Features hooded blade front and range adjustable tangent rear sights, "ce" and "42" codes marked on top of the receiver ring, and early production milled components. The barrel is marked "73 42 GS" with three "eagle/37" proofs, while the right side of the receiver ring is marked with a "eagle/359" proof. With matching "4282" serial numbers marked on the barrel, bolt handle, cocking shroud, striker, safety, rear sight, rear sight slider, rear sight base, band retaining spring, front band, trigger housing, and magazine floor plate along with matching "82" partials on the bolt release, follower, and extractor. World War I German Mauser "Red 9" Broomhandle & Matching Stock

Lot # 469 (Sale Order: 468 of 664)

World War I Imperial German Mauser "Red 9" Broomhandle Semi-Automatic Pistol Rig with Matching Numbered Shoulder Stock

In military use concurrently with the 7.63mm Broomhandle, the Red Nine name comes from the field practice of deeply branding a "9" into the grips; even in low-visibility situations, a soldier could know what ammunition to load just by taking hold of the pistol. Blade front and tangent rear sights graduated to 500 meters, with the three-line Oberndorf address on top of the chamber, two-line address on the right side of the frame, a New Safety hammer, and niter blue small parts. A small "crown/gothic letter" proof is present on the right side of the chamber, with an "Imperial Eagle" on the front of the magazine. The grips are in the 24-groove configuration with the branded and red-filled "9" on each side and matching numbers on the interior. Included with the pistol is a holster stock rig consisting of an unmarked quality reproduction brown leather harness and a hardwood shoulder stock numbered "601" on the mounting iron.

Class: Curio & Relic Handgun

Fine, with 60% plus original blue finish, showing areas of brown patina, bright edge wear, mild pitting concentrated around the grip panels, and light handling marks. The grips are also fine, with some light dings and scratches. Some light dents and scratches are present on the stock rig. Mechanically excellent.

DWM Model 1906 Second Issue Altered Navy Luger Pistol

Lot # 472 (Sale Order: 471 of 664)

DWM Model 1906 Second Issue Altered Navy Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol, Documented to the Republic of Ireland Department of Defense

Originally manufactured prior to World War I for the Imperial German Kaiserliche Marine, this pistol is in the Second Issue Altered configuration, with a functional grip safety and the thumb safety reconfigured for consistency with the Army-issue Luger. After the conclusion of World War I many of the Navy Lugers, along with the Artillery Model, were cycled out of service and shipped abroad commercially, as the stock equipped pistols could be counted against the maximum number of "carbines" the German military was allowed to have according to the terms of the Treaty of Versailles. While some of the details are disputed, it is confirmed by multiple sources that this Navy Luger was one of a number of Navy and Artillery Pistols in the inventory of the Clancy Barracks in Dublin, which were released by the Irish Department of Defense in 1990 to a group of American dealers and importers following a public auction to reduce old inventory. The circumstances of Ireland's acquisition of the pistol vary; an included copy of a narrative from William Edwards, one of the men who coordinated the 1990 acquisition claims that he first spotted the Lugers at Clancy Barracks in 1948, where he was told that they were part of a batch supplied by Imperial Germany in 1916 and personally smuggled into Ireland by Sir Roger Casement shortly before the Easter Rising, while others suggest that they were procured by the Irish Free State/Republic of Ireland in the 1930s. Blade front and two-position notch rear sights, with a blank chamber and "DWM" monogram on the front toggle link. A set of "crown" proofs are present on the barrel, chamber, and "crown/M" Naval proofs on the barrel and chamber. The extractor bears the traditional "GELADEN" mark, with the restruck "Gesichert" on the upper safety position and "W.K./1420" on the backstrap just below the grip safety. Fitted with niter blue and straw colored small parts, with a pair of checkered grips and a nickel finished magazine with "crown/M" and "2202" on the concentric circle decorated hardwood base. The importer marking "TSA GALAX, VA GERMANY DUBLIN 1916" has been added to the underside of the left receiver rail. Copies of other supporting documents, including a copy of an Irish Department of Defense invoice identifying this pistol by serial number as being released from their inventory.

Class: Curio & Relic Handgun

Fine as assembled, with 70% of the original blue finish, showing a number of scuffs and dings scattered across the surface, areas of brown and gray patina, bright edge wear and minor spotting. The breechblock and toggle links are numbered "10". 80% of the original bright straw color remains, with minor spotting and bright areas. Grips are good, with some dents and scuffs. Mechanically excellent. A rare chance to own a documented Republic of Ireland Navy Luger pistol.

The pistols have small bead front sights and "J. BLANCH. 29, GRACECHURCH ST. LONDON" signed on the concave ribs and "J. BLANCH" signed on the back action locks which have sliding safeties. The locks and furniture are engraved with mainly classic scroll and floral patterns. Swivel mounted ramrods are fitted beneath the barrels. The stocks have silver wedge escutcheons and checkered wrists. The pommel caps have small compartments. The case has a John Blanch trade label, loading/cleaning rod, balls, ball mold, tow, and cards.
