IMPORTANT INFO.

Lot # 0

A credit card is required for registration, which is simply for bidder verification - we do not automatically charge credit cards... WE DO NOT ACCEPT PAYMENT THROUGH THE ...moreMAIL. PLEASE READ TERMS & CONDITIONS FOR PAYMENT OPTIONS.. This is an Online Only "Timed Auction" with a "soft closing" and the only way to bid is through ProxiBid. When Lot #1 goes "Live" at 10:00am CST, there will be a 60- second time clock that will reset every time a new bid is placed. Once there has been no bids for a full 60 seconds, that lot will close. TWO NEW LOTS WILL GO "LIVE" EVERY 60 SECONDS. The software WILL NOT WAIT until one lot has closed before starting the 60-second time clock on the next lots. THERE WILL BE MULTIPLE LOTS SELLING AT THE SAME TIME throughout the day. The best way to participate is to leave "Max Bids" and let the software do the bidding for you. ProxiBid software executes the max bids, NOT THE AUCTION COMPANY, and will only bid for you up to your Max Bid price, if needed. For Example, if you leave a Max Bid on an item for $800 and that item only gets bid up to $400, you only pay $400. If you want to raise your "Max Bid", the software will not let you raise your current bid. This software is designed to work for you, not against you. It simply executes your bids competitively, just as if you were bidding yourself. Also note that "Live Bidding" problems can happen. For example, a slow internet connection or multiple people trying to bid at once can affect the speed at which you are viewing the auction, and an item may sell before you are able to bid. So, once again, if you have not left Max Bids as a backup, you could miss out.

1916 DWM Luger P.08, 9mm, (W/ Holster) - Named W/ WWII Capture Papers & History, SN - 3096

Lot # 3

This 1916 DWM Luger P08 Pistol is a WWII U.S. "bring back" from Ronald M. Elting, 2nd Lt, TC (Ronald passed away in 1952 - consigned by his family). HISTORY: On December ...more9, 1945, 2nd Lt. Elting was commissioned to captain the vessel "Hansestadt", also known as "Hitler's Yacht", from the town of Cologne (Koln) to Christhof-Ruthof shipyard. This yacht was a gift from the city of Koln to Hitler in the early 1930s and was used by Hitler, and other high ranking Nazi officials, to travel the Rhine River. One month prior to this sailing order, 2nd Lt. Elting requested, and was granted, permission from the United States War Department to retain possession of this DWM P08 Luger. DOCUMENTATION INCUDED: Official German Waterway, U.S. Zone, Eltville/ Rhein signed Permit No. 0001 (which officially made the ship "U.S. Property") under new captain Lt. Ronald M. Elting, T.C., dated September 15, 1945 (framed). Certificate Of Captured Enemy Equipment "LUGER SEMI AUTO PISTOL/ MODEL 1916 - 9MM/ SERIAL NO 3096" signed by headquarters; Harbor Craft Detachment APO 757 Request For Authorization Of Weapon, dated "2nd November, 1945", signed by Ronald M. Elting, Walter G. Swistowicz (HC Det. Commander) & Joseph Good ( Chief Administration); European Theater Orders - "MOVEMENT OF HANSA STADT KOLN (HITLER'S YACHT)/ CAPTAIN OF HANSA STADT KOLN ATTN: LT. ELTING" signed by Walter Swistowicz (HC Det. Commander); (2) Original small black & white photographs of the yacht taken by Lt. Elting; Original 9.5"x7.5" black & white photograph with "U.S. Army" lettering; (2) Printed photographs of the yacht from the book "WWII German War Booty" by Thomas M Johnson; original 27" x 21" blueprint of the yacht, Communications Zone Europe shoulder patch, and Army Service Forces shoulder patch. PISTOL: DWM/Erfurt Model 1914 - German Military Contract, dated 1916. CONDITION: This P08 Luger sports a full nickel finish, 4" barrel, checkered wooden grips and wood bottom magazine. This gun has a sharp/ clean bore and appears to be in good working order. This gun appears to be all original, visible numbers matching (with the exception of the magazine) with WWI era Imperial German Army markings. HOLSTER: Brown leather shell holster with Bavarian 2nd Corp. "Crown II" stamped on the back and "HOHMANN & SOHN/ KAISERSLAUTERN/ 1918" stamped on the inside of the flap. ASSESSMENT: The oral family history of this gun is that it was surrendered to Lt. Ronald M. Elting by a high ranking German Officer who has some sort of affiliation with the Hansestadt (Hitler's Yacht). This entire grouping of items was inherited by Mr. Elting's sister at the time of his death in the 1952. All of these items have been stored in a military trunk from that time until just recently. These items have been unseen and forgotten for over 70 years. WWII G.I. "Trophys Of War" with official documentation are among the most desirable items for early military collectors and historians. The story associated with this pistol is not only interesting, but also extremely unique. This pistol with paperwork/ history would not only display well, but would be a great addition to any historical collection.

1942 WWII Smith & Wesson U.S. Navy "V" Victory (4"), 38 Spl., Revolver, SN - V36584

Lot # 11

This Smith & Wesson 38 Special double-action revolver is known as a "Victory Model" due to the "V" serial number prefix. Victory Models were produced under contract by th...moree U.S. Navy during WWII in two separate shipments with a total of 65,000 revolvers. During early production 1942-43, there was not a U.S. ordnance inspector assigned to the Smith & Wesson factory. These early contract revolvers were marked "U.S. Navy" on the right top strap. From 1944-45 U.S. Army Col. (later Brig. Gen.) Guy H. Drewry oversaw production at the factory. These Victory Models are marked "U.S. Property G.H.D". This early Victory Model is serial numbered in the 1942 production range and is marked "U.S. Navy" on the top strap. SPECS: This gun sports a parkerized military finish, 4" barrel, lanyard ring smooth walnut grips and is numbers matching - butt frame, barrel & cylinder. This gun is in nice condition with very light wear, has a perfect sharp/ clean bore and appears to be in good working order. HISTORY: In mid-1940, when it was becoming increasingly likely that the United States would be drawn into the war raging in Europe, the U.S. Navy, along with all branches of our armed forces, was evaluating the projected demand for arms. The standard handgun for the Navy at the time was the M1911A1 .45 ACP pistol. It became pretty obvious that the demand for these pistols would soon overwhelm the available supply, particularly since the Army and Marines would also be clamoring for handguns when war began. The Navy adopted a policy of equipping its personnel with as many M1911A1 pistols as possible and obtaining a secondary source of handguns for “less critical requirements.” It was determined that the most suitable gun for this purpose was the Smith & Wesson Military & Police .38 Spl. revolver with a 4" barrel. The M&P was Smith & Wesson’s “K-frame Military & Police” revolver which had proven to be popular in the civilian marketplace prior to the war. While all of the .38 revolvers made by Smith & Wesson during World War II were dubbed “Victory Model,” the term as generally used today refers to the .38 Spl. 4"-barreled revolvers as made under U.S. Navy and U.S. Ordnance Dept. contracts. The Navy initially bypassed the standard procurement procedure of ordering its small arms under the auspices of the U.S. Army Ordnance Dept. and issued production contracts directly to Smith & Wesson (1942). This course of action, however, soon resulted in problems, and Ordnance got involved in late 1943. The U.S. Navy and Marine Corps aviators generally carried their Victory Model .38 revolvers in a leather shoulder holster, often with web loops sewn onto the strap to hold extra cartridges. A leather hip holster was also made for these revolvers, but the shoulder holster was generally preferred by pilots due to space constraints in the cramped cockpits. The hip holsters were used more often by security personnel, but period photos show some flyers with their Victory Model revolvers in hip holsters. While the U.S. Navy was the primary user of the S&W .38 Spl. Victory Model revolvers, Ordnance records indicate that some of the guns were also purchased by the U.S. Army and the Office of Strategic Services (OSS). Although the M1911A1 .45 automatic pistol was the standard issue sidearm, plenty of .38 caliber Smith & Wesson "Victory Model" revolvers saw action. There are a number of contemporary accounts of .38-cal. revolvers being used in combat during World War II by American troops. Often the exact model is not mentioned, but based on the numbers made and wide issuance, the odds are that most were the S&W .38 Spl. Victory Model.

1966 Belgium Browning Superposed Lightning (32" SKEET), 12 Ga., O/U, SN - 49261S6

Lot # 14

This Browning Superposed Lightning was made in Belgium in 1966 (SN - "S6" = 12 gauge for the year 1966). SPECS: This gun sports 32" SK1/ SK2 (SKEET/SHEET) barrels, gloss...moreed walnut stock with deep cut outlined checkering/ fluted comb & contoured forearm, ribbed brown rubber buttpad with black/white spacers, engraved receiver with floral pattern, gold trigger, wide serrated vent-rib with dual bead sights, tang safety/ barrel selector, dual extractors, 14.5" LOP and 2 3/4" chamber. CONDITION: This gun is in nice condition with some light wear and appears to be in good working order. HISTORY: The Browning Superposed is a Belgian over-under shotgun that was produced from 1931 until 1986. The pre-World War II Superposed was offered in 12-gauge only with the exception of special orders. The 20-gauge version first became available in the 1949 catalog. Barrels ranged from 26.5” to 30” for the 12-gauge and 26.5” or 28” for the 20-gauge. The 1950s saw the introduction of various sub-models of the gun. Hunting models (Trap- and Skeet-specific models also became available), such as a Lightning version that was lighter than the standard models. Every Superposed (standard & sub models) was hand engraved in Belgium. The 1960s saw the full introduction of a 28 gauge and .410 models and a Lightning version of the Trap model. Between 1970 and 1976, the cost of a Belgian-made Superposed more than doubled due to rising labor and manufacturing costs. This opened the door for Browning's less expensive alternative to the Superposed, the Citori, which was introduced in 1973, and produced at the Miroku, Japan, plant.

HISTORY: The P.38 is a 9mm Luger semi-automatic pistol that was developed by Carl Walther GmbH as the service pistol of the German Army at the beginning of World War II. The P.38 was a groundbreaking semi-automatic pistol design which introduced technical features still used today in current commercial and military semi-automatic pistols. It was the first locked-breech pistol to use a double-action/single-action (DA/SA) trigger. The P.38 also introduced a visible and tactile loaded chamber indicator in the form of a metal rod that protrudes from the rear of the slide when a round is chambered. During WWII, the P.38 was produced by three separate manufacturers: Walther, Mauser, and Spreewerk. To conceal manufacturer identities, each wartime manufacturer used a letter code: ac (Walther); byf (Mauser), and cyq (Spreewerk).

1919 Factory Engraved Ithaca Flues Grade 4 Trap (32" Single), SN - 306849

Lot # 16

According to the Ithaca Gun Company serial numbers archives database, this Flues Model Grade 4E Single-Barrel Trap was produced in 1919. SPECS: Boxlock type Flues action,...more grade 4 deep relief factory engraved receiver with a trap shooter/ American eagle & elaborate floral accents, hand checkered walnut stock with raised cheek & English grip, gold initial crest inlayed under the stock, beavertail forearm with push button release & orange inlet tip, 32" barrel with approximate IM choke, wide serrated vent-rib with mid-bead & front dome sight and Pachmayr brown rubber buttpad with 1970s style clear spacers. CONDITION: This gun is showing age & wear, to include a couple of small stock cracks, but overall this gun is solid and appears to be in good working order. HISTORY: Trap guns, especially old trap guns, have a magic all their own. In days past, all the great American gunmakers produced trap guns, including Parker and L.C. Smith, but one outlasted them all and stands alone: the Ithaca, known as the King of Trap Guns. It was made from 1914 until 1977. By the end, it cost more to make an Ithaca than they could sell them for. The history of the Ithaca trap gun can be divided into two distinct phases. The first, from 1914 to 1921, was the era of the “Flues,” designed by Emile Flues; the second, the “Knick,” began in 1922 and lasted until the end. The models remained the same and looked much the same, but the Knick, designed by Frank Knickerbocker, had different internals. Notable users of the Ithaca include Annie Oakley and Theodore Roosevelt. Miss Oakley broke 98/100 for the first time with an Ithaca.

1853 Colt Pocket Model Of 1849 (4"), 31 Cal., Percussion Revolver, SN - 83742

Lot # 19

According to Colt Archives Serial Number Database, this "Pocket Model of 1849" was produced in 1853. MARKINGS - "ADDRESS SAML COLT/ NEW YORK CITY" on the top of the barre...morel, "COLTS PATENT" on the right side of the frame and Stagecoach Scene roll engraved on the cylinder. CONDITION: This gun is showing age and has lost all original bluing, but still retains a clean bore and appears to be in good working order. HISTORY: The Model 1849 Pocket Pistol, introduced in 1848 and remaining in production until 1872, was one of Colt’s most popular firearms. It was a smaller brother of the more famous "Colt's Revolving Belt Pistol of Naval Caliber" introduced the same year and commonly designated by collectors as the "1851 Navy Model". Colt 31 caliber Pocket Revolvers were widely used by both sides during the U.S. Civil War, especially among officers. One legend has it that the pocket models were popular with Civil War officers who did not rely on them as combat arms but as defense against battlefield surgeons bent on amputating a limb; a more likely reason is that officers were not expected to directly engage in combat, except in self-defense, and the small size and light weight of the Pocket models made carrying them around more attractive than larger, heavier models. Anecdotal accounts indicate that Bloody Bill Anderson, the Civil War raider, preferred the Pocket Model, and Bill Hickock was believed to have carried one as a backup pistol.

HISTORY: The Browning Hi-Power Pistol was introduced in 1935, based on a design by John Browning, and completed by Dieudonn Saive at Fabrique Nationale (FN) of Herstal, Belgium. The pistol is often referred to as an HP or BHP, and the terms P-35 and HP-35 are also used based on the introduction of the pistol in 1935. During WWII, production was moved to Canada as the Germans occupied Belgium, and this is where the name was changed to "Hi Power". The name change was kept even after production returned to Belgium after the war. The Hi-Power is one of the most widely used military pistols in history, having been used by the armed forces of over 50 countries. Browning P35 Hi-Powers were first imported into the U.S. in 1954. After 82 years of continuous production, FN Herstal announced that the production of the Hi-Power would end, and it was discontinued in early 2018 by Browning Arms. However, in 2022, presumably to compete with the sudden surge in Hi-Power popularity, FN announced they would resume production of the Browning Hi-Power.

1857 Martially Marked - U.S. Colt M1851 "Army" Navy, .36 Percussion Revolver, SN - 73730

Lot # 23

According to Colt Archives Serial Number Database, this Model 1851 Navy 36 caliber percussion revolver was produced in 1857. Known to collectors as the "Army" Navy Model,...more this gun was part of a contract with the U.S. Ordnance Department for approximately 20,000 revolvers in the 42,000-80,000 serial number range. These "Army" Navy Models were issued to the 1st and 2nd U.S. Cavalry Regiments in 1858, and subsequently replaced the Colt M1848 Dragoon Revolver as the standard handgun for the Dragoons and U.S. Mounted Rifles prior to the outbreak of the Civil War. MARKINGS: "COLTS PATENT/ U.S." on the left side of the frame (martially marked), "ADDRESS SAM L COLT NEW YORK CITY" on the top of the barrel, "C" inspectors stamp on the left side of the trigger guard strap, "K" inspectors stamp on the left side of the trigger guard, "S" inspectors stamp on the top of the barrel after the address, "M" inspectors stamp on the front strap rear of the trigger guard, inspectors cartouche on the left grip (very faint, not legible), "73730" on butt/ trigger guard strap/ frame/ barrel lug & "3730" (partial) on the loading lever and "COLTS PATENT NO. 2647" (very faint) on the cylinder - any roll engraved cylinder scenes are no longer present. SPECS: 7.5" Octagon barrel, smooth walnut grips, brass straps/ trigger guard and dovetailed blade front sight. CONDITION: This gun is showing age and has lost all bluing, but mechanically seems to be very solid with smooth 3-click timing and in good working order. ASSESMENT/ HISTORY: U.S. Contract "Army" Navy Revolvers are rarely found. The majority of the martially marked US "Army" are 3rd Model revolvers with small brass trigger guards, a wide capping cut out in the recoil shield and a narrow lever catch. While the US Navy specifically requested iron backstraps and trigger guards for their Model 1851 revolvers, the Army accepted the standard brass backstraps and trigger guards on their guns. Many of the early Model 1851 Navies that were delivered to the Army were issued to the newly formed 1st and 2nd Cavalry regiments, who used them to good effect, fighting hostile natives on the western plains. Some 7,800 Colt Navy revolvers had been issued for use by troops in the field by the end of fiscal year 1859 (ending June 30 of that year). Additionally, some 2,000 were issued to the various states under the Militia Act of 1808, with the three largest batches going to Indiana (who receiving 250 in September, 1857), New Hampshire (who received 300 in October, 1857) and Texas (who received 368 in August, 1858). Of course, the Model 1851 Navy-Armies remained in use during the American Civil War as well, with at least fifty-six US and volunteer regiments being armed with the .36 Colt revolvers. These included the 1st, 3rd, 4th & 6th US Cavalry, the 1st Arkansas Volunteer Cavalry, 9 regiments of Illinois Volunteer Cavalry (1st-3rd, 6th, 8th-11th & 13th), 1st-3rd & 10th Ohio Volunteer Cavalry, 6 regiments of Kansas Volunteer Cavalry (5th-7th, 9th, 11th & 15th), 6 regiments of Michigan Cavalry (1st-4th, 7th & 9th) and 5 regiments of New York Volunteer Cavalry (1st, 5th, 6th, 10th & 11th), just to name a few.
