Wonderfully carved pair of Filipino Bulul rice deities each carved from a single piece of wood. Finely slit eyes, with small button shaped noses, and slightly curved mout...morehs. The figures are depicted seated with arms rested on their knees pulled to their chests. The unfinished base consuming where feet would be is slightly unusual and not often seen in these types of statues. Size 17 1/2" H, 5 1/4" W. Condition: Soiling and minor losses throughout, else in good condition throughout.

Standing male and female Philippines rice god Bulul, each depicted standing naked on a pedestal, with arms at their sides. Small pierced eyes, with chiseled jaw lines, pr...moreotruding noses and small slit mouth. The Bulul is touched by hands dipped in blood of a chicken or pig in a ritual called tunod during the rice planting season. Over time the blood imparts a dark color to the figures, overlaid with a patina of grease from food offerings. Size of largest 16 7/8" H x 3" W. Condition: Good condition overall with loss to the female face as shown.

Excellent Asante Royal 'Asipim' Court Chair

West Africa, Ghana, Asante Royal court throne chair known as an Asipim or stand form royal chair of the Asante court. Exclusively used by chiefs and court figures with innumerable European brass embossed panels, appliques, tacks and "Mpeaboo" gold weight shaped decoration over the wood with hide seat bottom. The top of the chair decorated with two finials known as "Ntuatire", often in a eagle talons form. Among chieftain the more chairs (Asipim) an Akan chief posses the more powerful they are. Some lesser chief only posses four thrones while very powerful chief possess 14 or more. Size 29 1/2" H, 17 1/2" W, 14 7/8" D
