Heavily Engraved Early 20th Century German Schuetzen Falling Block Single Shot 8.15mm Rifle

Lot # 322 (Sale Order: 326 of 349)      

Early 20th Century Schuetzen with a 32" octagon barrel that measures 1" in width at the receiver and tapers to 13/16" at the end of the barrel. Ramp protected front sight, missing center bead. Top flat of the barrel is knurled from the action to the front sight. Engraving on the barrel extends from the receiver 1.25". Sling swivel installed on the barrel 7" from the forend. Action is a Schuetzen falling block. Engraving covers 90% of the action. Right side features a German hunter elaborately dressed holding a rifle over his left shoulder, muzzle pointing down. This panel is surrounded by floral scroll engraving with a deep punch dot background. German proof marks in the upper right corner are visible. Left side features an equally elaborate German hunter showing a powder keg across his chest while twisting his handlebar mustache. This panel is also surrounded by floral and scroll engraving and deep punch dot. Top of the receiver is engraved with an hourglass design in deep relief, featuring deep floral and punch dot engraving on each side of the top. Bottom features the same hourglass floral design. Looped trigger guard. Upper and lower tang also exhibit similar engraving design. The top of the falling block is heavily engraved with punch dot and bars. Rear of the top tang has an area to insert Schuetzen adjustable sight. The sight is engraved with deep relief to match the receiver. The stocks are two piece walnut with a smooth forend with hand checkering on the bottom. The buttstock is ornately carved with a thumb rest on the right side and a large cheekpiece on the left. The thumb rest has a 1/2" sliver chipped off. Buttstock features hand checkering in fleur-de-lis pattern at 22 LPI. Metal Schuetzen buttplate has the same style deep relief engraving and features a smooth knob at the top and a single hook at the toe. Sling swivel mounted in the toe. The forend is held with a barrel wedge and has a Schnabel tip. CONDITION: Barrel finish is a brown patina with various dings and scratches at the edges of the octagon. Action retains 40% original case hardening that has turned to a dark coat of varnish. The falling block shows moderate slide wear on the sides. The upper tang and rear sight show the original varnish. Forend retains 90% original finish. Left side near top has a 1/2" long crack. Right side of the forend near the Schnabel tip has a heavy crack extending back 4.5" and ending at the crossbar. Buttstock has 60% original finish with moderate scratches mostly around the cheek piece and at the toe of the buttstock. Left side of the stock at the bottom of the action has a fine crack that extends 5/8" to the rear. Metal buttplate has turned a brown patina. Dark bore with visible rifling. Early model Otto Rost Wilsdruff. Features 26.75" blued barrels with blade front and automatic flip up rear notch sight. Matte solid rib marked "O. ROST, WILSDRUFF", 2-9/16" inch chambers and full and modified chokes. The receiver features broad leaf scroll and game scenes with cocking indicators, unique under lever design, push button barrel selector, and tang mounted rifle cocking piece/rear sight actuator. Checkered Schnabel tip splinter forearm and pistol grip stock with European sling swivels, raised cheekpiece, horn grip cap, engraved cartridge trap, and a checkered horn buttplate. LOP: 13.5". DAC: 1.25". DAH: 2.25". CONDITION: Barrels retain 50% blue with some fading to a brown patina in front of the receiver that extends 6" up the barrels. German Drilling Marked Adolf Loesche Rifle Shotgun 16 Gauge x 16 x 22 Hornet

This combination features 26-5/8" barrels with ramped bead front sight and flip-up rear single leaf sight. Solid matte rib fitted for a claw mount scope. Standard German Nitro proofs. Right side of barrel is marked "Krupp Essen", left side is marked "Fluess Stahl" and bottom of barrel marked with the original caliber: 9x72R. Barrel is marked "Adolf Loesche", a German arms dealer in Hanover. Rifle barrel has been professionally lined and updated to accept what appears to be the 22 Hornet caliber with a slight professional modification to the extractor. Action is a Greener crossbolt boxlock with side clips, scalloped sides, cocking indicator and slide tang selector. Deep relief engraving features two boars on the right side and a red stag on the left. Buttstock and forend are both straight grain walnut. Stock features a slight right hand cheek piece and an engraved trapdoor four cartridge carrier. Horn grip cap, trigger guard and butt plate. CONDITION: Barrels retain 90% re-applied blue with moderate handing marks. Receiver has been cleaned with a nice satin finish with no oxidation or staining. Stock has a nice refreshed satin finish, moderate handling marks. Forend has a 1-1/2" chip running lengthwise at the rear of the left side barrel. Butt plate horn shows some small worm holes. This antique features a 28" unmarked round blued barrel with globe front sight, rear sight removed with plug screws inserted. Gun action resembles J.J. Henry from Bolton, PA. Action is solid brass percussion with German silver trigger guard. Double set triggers. Adjustable rear peep sight. Brass receiver on right side is engraved with a mountain scene in a panel surrounded by scroll. Left side features one panel with an Indian in a headdress while other presents with a pair of buck deer, both surrounded by scroll engraving. Single right panel features a mountain scene. Lower tang and trigger guard have matching engraving. Buttstock and forend are 1X walnut. Forend features two diamond inlays, tip and spacer of bone. Buttstock has a right hand Schuetzen cheek piece with ivory pistol grip cap. Buttstock is fitted with a brass butt plate that features the same engraving style as the receiver. CONDITION: Barrel retains 70% original blue with light oxidation throughout and moderate field use marks. Action has a dark mustard patina. Trigger and peep sight have 90% original blue. Trigger is similarly engraved, double set with brass trigger guard. Fancy one piece tiger striped maple full length stock. Fifteen brass and one German silver inlays in a mix of arrow, crescent moon & star, diamond, oval, and heart shapes. Brass crescent butt plate with four piece brass patch box with nine piercings and engraved lid. CONDITION: Barrel overall has brown patina with faint areas of oxidation. Silver plated trigger guard, trigger, sideplate, flintlock action, pistol grip cap, ramrod and screw inlays. Wood stocks with checkered rounded grip. Pistols are not marked but appear to be 50 ball caliber. Very neat pair! CONDITION: On both pistols, the barrels do show light brown patina. Wood stocks on both are worn from age and handling with a few dings and wear in the checkering. One pistol does show a crack on both sides of the ramrod. All actions function smoothly. 1935 Colt The Woodsman 1st Series .22LR Semi-Automatic Pistol

Manufactured in late 1935. Features a 4.5" blued barrel, with "Kelly type" front sight and rear sight that is adjustable for windage. Left side panel of the barrel is stamped "THE WOODSMAN". The top of the barrel is stamped with the Colt Hartford address and patent number in two un-equal lines on the left side. The serial number is located on the front of the grip strap. The left side of the slide is roll-stamped with the legend "COLT AUTOMATIC/CAL..22 LONG RIFLE" followed by the Rampant Colt trademark before the serrations. The left side of the trigger guard bow is stamped with a "W" assembler's mark above the Colt "VP/triangle" proof mark. Fitted with Colt factory checkered wood grips. Includes a factory two-toned blue 10 round magazine marked "COLT WOODSMAN/CAL. 22. L.R." on the base. CONDITION: Retains 70% original blue finish with most wear around the muzzle, and mottled gray on the front grip strap. Faint pin-prick oxidation throughout the sides, top and barrel. Right side of the barrel has a 1/8" heavy nick. Grips overall are in good condition, showing only some faint dings. Good bore and mechanics. CALIBER: .22 LR. S/N: 93425. FFL STATUS: Curio & Relic.

Serrated slide stamped on the left side "COLT AUTOMATIC CAL .22 LONG RIFLE". Factory Colt synthetic brown marbled checkered grip panels. Manual left side slide stop safety. Safety magazine release located on the left side behind the trigger. Lanyard loop on the heel of the grip. Includes an original factory 10 round magazine. CONDITION: Approximately 10% original blue remaining and nearly into the white. Grips are in great condition with only a few faint dings in the bottom edges. Decent bore and good mechanics. The pistol is fitted with factory target style grip panels in a checkered brown marble tone with left side thumb rest for right hand shooters and matching backstrap extension. Fitted with a fully blued 10 round magazine marked "COLT/CAL. 22. L.R." on the base. Comes in the period correct Colt box and factory paperwork. CONDITION: Retains 85% original blue with light dulling and fading on the barrel and frame showing mostly on edges.
