Colt 1911 'USMC' .45 ACP SN: 151412

Lot # 1 (Sale Order: 1 of 644)      

US Military semiautomatic pistol manufactured circa 1916. Features blued finish, double diamond checkered walnut grips, 5" barrel, fixed sights, single action trigger, grip safety, manual safety, flat smooth mainspring housing with lanyard ring. Bore is good condition. Retains 95% deep dark blued finish, with edge losses, some small spots of discoloration, scratches, a few tiny pits. Right side of slide has pattern in the bluing that appears to be chatter marks from manufacture, do not have any texture, only seen as reflecting light differently. Grips are near excellent, dark colored walnut, with few small blemishes. Markings include: "MODEL OF 1911 US ARMY" on right side of slide, two line Colt patent & address lines on left side, "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" on left side of frame. Markings are generally crisp. "GHS" monogram is even and readable. "5" stamp on bottom of blued barrel, forward of feet. "6" & "A" inside slide under firing pin channel. "H" on slide rear above firing pin. Rampant colt at left rear of slide. Includes (1) good condition two tone lanyard magazine, cleaned of patina with much bluing remaining on bottom half. Includes Colt letter stating delivery in Nov 1916 to USMC Depot at Philadelphia PA. Slide markings are without serif, frame markings have serif letters, indicating possible one year later slide. Some slight variation in polishing marks seen thru finish on triggerguard and front strap, may indicate partial local touch-up. Colt Single Action Army 45 Colt SN: 349236

Single action revolver manufactured circa 1926. Features blued/case colored finish, 5-1/2" barrel, fixed sights, two piece ivory grips. Bore and charge holes are very good condition. Shows mostly complete coverage of thinning and graying blued finish, with edge wear and cylinder drag line. Case colors on frame are muted, with contrasting darker gray on light gray, some peacock blue on left side of hammer. Gripstraps show some darker blued finish around triggerguard and top of back strap, otherwise mostly a thin gray. Screw heads retain good condition nitre blue color. All observed markings are crisp with even depth. Colt medallion ivory grips are good condition with minimal shrinkage and some small chips, short tiny cracks near escutcheons, some yellow color mixed with off-white ivory color. Left grip panel has been engraved with "DJ" inside a double circle (or letter "O"), "SF" on bottom flat, "1" on bottom of right panel. Action is smooth with fair to good lock-up. Colt factory letter states this revolver shipped blued, with ivory grips, in 1926, to Baker & Hamilton & Pacific in San Francisco (a large farming supply company). Original ownership is attributed to Daniel Joseph O'Brien, who was chief of Police for San Francisco thru 1928 and then served as Commissioner. Included is a letter form Chief O'Brien's grandson that states his belief that this gun belonged to his grandfather, based upon the grip engraving. Features 6" barrel, blade front sight, dovetail mounted notch rear sight, blued finish, checkered black composition grips with Colt emblems, detachable box magazine with catch at heel. Bore is very good condition. Retains 70% finish with edge wear, thinning or graying finish on grip straps and areas of slide, small area of pitting on left side of slide. Grips are good to very good condition with smoothing from handling. Grip screws show bright nitre blue color. Markings on left side of slide show deeper across bottom line, with faint ghosting of overstrike. 'Wells Fargo' marked single action percussion revolver, featured in Colt Magazine, 1991 Volume 10. Features 3" octagon barrel, brass post front sight, rear sight notch in hammer nose, brass triggerguard & backstrap, 5 shot unfluted cylinder, one piece walnut grip. Bore is fair condition, dark with pitting, visible rifling. Charge holes are slightly rough. Front sight post is worn down. Metal is bare, cleaned, with some erosion of markings. Overall dull gray color with occasional darker dents or pits. Brass straps have impact dents in many places. Wood grip has slight shrinkage, overall good condition, varnished, with some finish loss. Numbers match on barrel, frame, trigger guard, backstrap, cylinder. Marked "WF & Co" on bottom strap, "VAL VERDA 1862 - 1864" on backstrap. Action is smooth with fair to good lock-up. Includes copy of magazine article that covers several similar revolvers, including this one referenced by serial number. ***Deactivated*** '3rd Model' Saddle Ring Carbine manufactured circa 1871. Features brass receiver, other metal parts blued, smooth wood furniture, 20" round barrel, full length magazine tube, blade front sight, "L" flip rear sight, lever latch, brass crescent buttplate with storage trap. Bore is fair to good condition, good rifling with dark grooves, frosted throughout. Barrel and mag tube are brown color, fairly smooth texture. Lever is dark gray color. Brass parts retain darker patina color, with small dents and other signs of use. Wood is good condition, dented and scratched, lightly varnished. Bolt face shows a raised circular protrusion with some marring or tool marks, appears to be the firing pin body protruding slightly beyond the replaceable head portion. Left protrusion of firing pin head broken / missing. Firing pin altered (shortened? or improperly assembled or installed?) so hammer hits frame, not the firing pin. Not capable of firing as modified, should be correctable, might just need cleaning and proper re-assembly. Winchester Model 1873 'The Daisy Carbine'

.44-40 Win SN: 495911 Special Order lever action carbine marked "The Daisy Carbine" on left side of the barrel over the chamber. This was a special order carbine for Australian dealer F. Lassetter & Co of Sydney. This carbine is pictured and referenced by serial number on p476-477 of James D Gordon's book "Winchester's New Model of 1873 - A Tribute (Volume II)". The book states that this is the only known remaining carbine, and all "Daisy" rifles and carbines are recorded in Winchester factory records. Included letter from Cody Firearms Museum does reference "Daisy". The two volume set by Gordon is also included with this carbine, manufactured circa 1895. Features 19" round barrel, half magazine, blade front & ladder rear sights, sliding dust cover, lever lock, butt trap with sliding door, straight wristed smooth walnut stock, walnut forend, saddle ring, carbine buttplate. Bore is fair condition, a bit dark, lightly pitted throughout, with good rifling. Metal surfaces are a medium brownish gray, mottled on barrel, traces of original blue in protected areas. Markings are generally sharp and readable, with exception of caliber marking on bottom of brass cartridge lifter being mostly eroded. Wood is good condition, some oil staining where wood meets metal, with fair fit to metal, some evidence of previous sanding (slight shrinkage or loss at tangs and at toe). Features blued finish, smooth walnut forend & straight wristed butt stock, 20" barrel, full length magazine tube, pinned blade front sight, folding ladder rear sight, saddle ring, carbine butt with steel buttplate. Bore is very good with very little frosting observed. Retains 75% finish with edge losses, scratches, rub marks from saddle ring against receiver, bare metal at bands and at finger lever. Scrapes and some patina on buttplate. Wood is good or better condition, dented & scratches, good fit to metal, lightly varnished, eroded at toe. Markings are sharp. SN: 22817 Side-by-side double barrel boxlock shotgun chambered for 2 3/4" 12 gauge shells, manufactured circa 1948. Features a re-blued refinish, 30" full/full choked barrels with raised solid rib, selective automatic ejectors, white Bradley bead front sight, steel mid bead, single selective trigger with push button barrel selector, sliding tang safety, knurled top lever, fancy figured walnut beavertail forend with diamond checkering and semi-pistol grip shoulder stock with solid recoil pad. Stock dimensions – drop at heel 1-3/4”, drop at comb 2-1/2” and length of pull 13-1/2”. Matching serial numbers are found on the receiver, barrels, and forend (on the wood & metal). Serial number on receiver (upper tang) is partially eroded. Marked "TRAP" on receiver bottom. Bores are very good condition. Shotgun retains approximately 95% blue with minor edge losses, more losses on blued steel grip cap, few small scratches. Several pits or other blemishes in the metal are present under the current refinish. Wood is excellent condition, with extra fancy select grain. Recoil pad contour at heel is slightly proud of wood line. Included factory letter matches basic configuration, indicates different stock dimensions than current configuration. This is wonderful piece of Prescott History that should be cherished and preserved. Bio- Ray Swanson (1937 - 2004) was active/lived in Arizona, South Dakota. Ray Swanson is known for Indian figure, genre and portrait painting.

Shipped on a single gun special order shipment (order # 6453) to Simmons Hardware Co on Sept 23, 1922. Beautifully restored to like-new factory condition by Tom Haas Sr (approx 15 to 20 years ago). The pearl grips fit extremely well, are in excellent condition, with small chip from left heel. It is estimated that less than 10 factory full gold finished & engraved single actions were made, making this a very rare example. Included factory letter states this revolver was factory engraved and gold finished (no grip type listed). Condition is NRA Excellent (as restored) *** C&R Firearm ***

This revolver has been engraved over 50% of its surface with "grape vine" scrolls. The finish is an attractive gold & silver color, with gold plated hammer, cylinder & loading lever, other parts polished bare metal. The grips are engraved Tiffany style with a spread-winged eagle on the rear surface. Screws and trigger are bold colored niter blue. Numbers match on barrel, frame, triggerguard. Markings are crisp. Overall condition is excellent, a 20th Century re-creation of vintage style that is beautifully accomplished and authentic to the originals. Bolt action US Military rifle manufactured circa 1935. Features 24" barrel, blade front sight with clip-on protector, ladder type rear sight, manual safety, sling swivels, stacking swivel. Bore is very good condition. Barrel & receiver are finished in a black colored finish (appears to be paint, with gray parkerizing showing in tiny areas where the paint is chipped), bands in a medium gray parkerizing, bottom metal in a dark gray parkerized finish, bolt assembly in mixed colors. Retains 95% finish with edge losses & scratches. Walnut stock and handguard are very good condition, matching colors, with dents and other handling marks. Stock is straight wristed, with finger grooves; grooves appear sanded at edges. Deep visible cartouches on left wrist: "RA-P" in box, "SA SPRG" in box. "P" in circle stamped twice under wrist, shallow & faint. Barrel is "star gauged", marked "SA" over ordnance bomb over "4-36" (faint traces of double stamp).
