COLT 45 LC NEW SERVICE DA REVOLVER WITH LETTER.

Lot # 4011 (Sale Order: 11 of 447)

Cal. 45 Colt. S# 344320. Bbl. 5 1/2" with fin shaped blade sight plus 1926 as last patent date; frame notched rear sight. Mfg. 1938 (1898-1944; approx. 356,000 units in 8...more variations) as commercial model having lanyard swivel at butt. Same appearance as Military Model 1917 but with border checkered walnut grips having silver Colt medallions. Colt website, collector forums and Colt pocket guide of serial numbers lists manufacture date as 1938 but 2023 factory letter states single firearm shipment on Dec. 15, 1936 to J. K. Carmichael of NY, NY and sold to F. H, Doell, Gunsmith in Boston. Stocks "Not Listed" plus other info here was verified; special feature of: "Furnished with a 4 pound trigger pull". Possibly, Colt archive personnel thought 1938 was 1936 (8 and 6 can appear similar) thus creating an error in the letter. Per references, serial number would have to be at least 3000 digits off to equal 1936. Checkered rounded cylinder latch, trigger and hammer with polished sides. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: above mentioned factory letter. CONDITION: grip area has grey patina appearance with balance being near excellent including bright bore. Timing very slightly off but correct with full trigger pull. Very good grips with possible extra finish and minor improper fitment being slightly proud of frame. PROVENANCE: The Collection of Gun Sport Ltd. owned by Jon R. Thomas. (23-3898/NW). CURIO. $750-1,000.
