Overall length: 37 1/2". Blade length: 31”. The plain blade has a single wide fuller with a secondary fuller near the spine. Gilded brass hilt with pierced foliate & flor...moreal decorated guard. Foliate-decorated pommel with a slightly stepped cap. Wire-wrapped leather grip. Gilded brass-mounted leather scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray, cleaned patina with light pitting, particularly near the tip. Hilt retains traces of its original gilded finish. Leather washer is replaced. Grip has been re-wrapped with new wire. Scabbard mounts show no original gilding remaining. Leather body is flexed and a bit floppy. PROVENANCE: from the lifelong collection of Robert "Mike" Bricker. Overall length: 39 1/4". Blade length: 31 1/2". Blade has a single wide fuller with a secondary fuller near the spine. Blade is etched over the first 17” with various fol...moreiate motifs and sprays of arms. There is an etched mark near the ricasso that reads “W.H. Horstmann & Sons Philadelphia.” Gilded brass semi-basket 2-branch hilt with foliate embellishments at the base of the branches. The pommel has laurel leaves with a central flower and a plain pommel cap. Plated iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade generally has a light gray patina with evidence of pitting near the tip. The edge has a few nicks and appears to have been lightly sharpened. The hilt shows light overall wear with a pleasing patina. Grip & wire are complete. Scabbard finish is better than 95%. US M1852 NAVAL OFFICER’S SWORD BY HORSTMANN.

Overall length: 35”. Blade length: 28”. Blade has a single fuller with a secondary fuller near the spine. The blade is etched over 15 1/2" with various foliate, nautical,...more and patriotic motifs, including a large fouled anchor, a spray of arms, an eagle, & cannon, as well as other attractive motifs. There is an etched mark near the ricasso that reads “W.H. HORTSMANN & SONS PHILADELPHIA.” Gilded brass hilt with pierced guard featuring oak leaves, acorns, and a large “USN”. Dolphin head knuckle bow and an eagle head quillon. Pommel has a similar oak leaf design, and the cap has a naval eagle. Gilded brass-mounted leather scabbard with knot suspension mounts and a dolphin drag. CONDITION: blade has a light to medium gray patina with scattered minor staining. Hilt retains only traces of its original gilded finish. Grip is complete, but the wire shows significant losses. Scabbard has two notable weak points in the leather but remains in one piece. There are traces of original gilding on the mounts. PROVENANCE: from the lifelong collection of Robert "Mike" Bricker. (02-22331/BF). $700-1,000.

Solid brass hilt with an eagle-decorated pommel. Three iron rivets secure the hilt to the tang. The guard has numerous stampings and rack marks. No scabbard. CONDITION: the blade has a dark overall patina with numerous small edge nicks. The hilt has significant wear, partially obliterating the eagles on the pommel. The guard is slightly misshaped. Solid brass cup hilt with standard Phrygian cap pommel. The quillon area is stamped “11M” over “415”. Leather-wrapped grip. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a mottled, medium gray patina with numerous deep nicks to the blade. The blade also shows evidence of sharpening. Hilt shows light wear overall. The grip appears to have been worn to the wood and recovered, with 80% of the recovered material still intact. 2) Overall length: 32 1/4". Blade length: 26". Plain blade with a single wide fuller lightly stamped near the hilt “Made by AMES MFG CO CHICOPEE MASS” & “U.S.N. D.R 1862”. Solid brass cup hilt with standard Phrygian cap pommel. The quillon area is stamped “25M” over "949." Wire-wrapped leather grip. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray mottled patina with several nicks to the edge. Hilt shows light wear. The solid brass hilt measures 4 7/8” and has 15 horizontal grooves at the grip. Typical flattened Boyle & Gamble bird’s head pommel with a broken spring & button. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray, lightly mottled patina. Hilt has a very pleasing deep mustard patina. The button & spring are nearly completely missing, but the retention screw is intact. SABER BAYONET BY CHAVASSE. Overall length: 28 1/4". Blade length: 22 7/8”. This type and style of bayonet saw extensive use by Confederate forces during the Civil War. Th...moreis example has no British proofs and is marked “CHAVASSE” who was a known supplier to the Confederacy. It is interesting to note that Chavasse of Aston, Newton, Birmingham went out of business in 1868 due to his support of the Confederacy and the unpaid debts of his Confederate customers. The blade on this bayonet has a single wide & deep fuller. The blade is marked near the hilt “CHAVASSE” in an arc. Iron crossguard stamped “H & F” on the quillon. Iron bird head effigy pommel with 2-piece crosshatched pressed leather grips. Iron mounted leather scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray, mottled patina. Hilt has a similar patina, and grips show light wear only. Scabbard has a similar pleasing patina, and the leather remains quite strong. The blade has a single medium, deep fuller with an iron crossguard and a brass grip & pommel. No scabbard. CONDITION: light wear overall. 3) M1862. A classic Remington Zouave American Civil War bayonet measuring 24 7/8” overall with a 20” blade. The blade has a small “S” stamp near the hilt. The solid brass hilt is stamped on the flat “B.H.” Brass-mounted leather scabbard. CONDITION: very light wear overall. 4,5) M1855. Two classic 58 cal. Civil War triangular socket bayonets with their original leather scabbards. CONDITION: bayonets show light overall wear. The scabbards, however, show moderate to heavy wear. 6) M1841. A Drake alteration of a Mississippi rifle socket bayonet measuring 22 3/4" overall and stamped on the top of the 3” socket “E. 56”. The scabbard has a belt loop with three copper rivets, and the tip of the scabbard is closed with a single copper rivet. CONDITION: bayonet & scabbard show light wear overall. Iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade has silver paint residue near the hilt. Hilt generally shows light wear, with a mellow mustard patina on the brass. Scabbard has been painted silver & gold, as commonly done by GAR posts. 2) US M1860 CAVALRY. Overall length: 42 1/2". Blade length: 35”. The blade has a single wide fuller with a secondary fuller near the spine. The ricasso reads "U.S. 1865 A.G.M." and "C ROBY W. CHELMSFORD MASS." White buff washer. Brass 2-branch semi-basket hilt. Wire-wrapped leather grip. Iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade has been chrome-plated. Hilt has been gold-plated. The plating on the hilt is approx. 60% intact. Grip leather is 35% intact. The wire is complete. Scabbard has also been chrome-plated. 3) US M1860 CAVALRY. Overall length: 42 5/8". Blade length: 34 3/4”. The blade has a single wide fuller with a secondary fuller near the spine. The ricasso is marked “US G.K.C. 1865." White buff washer. Brass 2-branch semi-basket hilt. Wire-wrapped leather grip. Iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray patina with some evidence of cleaned pitting. The hilt is misshaped and appears to have been gold-plated. Grip and wire are complete. Scabbard has been painted black. 4) CAVALRY. Overall length: 41”. Blade length: 34 1/4". This type of saber has often been called, in the past, an M1872 enlisted saber. Such a saber does not actually exist and was never contracted for. This lightweight M1860 was produced for use at military schools and academies in the post-Civil War period. a narrow, plain blade with a single medium fuller. Brass semi-basket 2-branch guard. Wire-wrapped leather grip. Iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray patina with minor staining. Hilt has a pleasing mustard patina. Grip shows light wear, and the wire is complete. Scabbard shows residue of silver paint. 5) MUSICIAN. Overall length: 34 1/2". Blade length: 28”. The blade has a single medium fuller and is stamped at the ricasso “US D 1852” and “Made By AMES MFG CO CHICOPEE." Solid brass hilt & grip. No scabbard. Etching includes foliate ...more& patriotic motifs, including a federal shield. The ricasso is boldly stamped “A.BERGER”. Gilded brass hilt with a plain guard terminating an egg-shaped quillon. Knuckle bow has a central acanthus leaf motif. Well executed eagle head pommel with a plain backstrap & ferrule. Plain wooden grip appears to be original to the sword. Gilded brass mounted leather scabbard. CONDITION: blade has an overall dark patina. Blued finish is quite faded, but gold highlighted etching remains strong. Hilt retains traces of original gilded finish. Scabbard is quite flexed and has a hole beginning 9" up from the tip. Mounts retain the majority of their original gilded finish. The carved wooden saya has an interesting stacked incised ring design with an iron kogatana. CONDITION: blade has a reasonable polish that could use some refreshing. Tsuka is exceptional. CONDITION: blade has a dark patina with ample oxidation obscuring most of the etching. Hilt has a couple of bends to the guard, and the pommel is actually cracked. Grip is 99%, but the wire is dislodged in many areas. Scabbard has a serious bend at about the midpoint. (02-21833/BF). $400-600.

Gilded brass hilt with a shell-embellished pommel area and a foliate-embellished single branch. The knuckle bow has floral & foliate decoration as it joins the decorated pommel. White sharkskin grip with twisted copper wire wrap. Brass scabbard with heavy foliate embellishments, particularly near the base. The area between the two suspension mounts is covered with whipped cord. CONDITION: blade has a dark overall patina but seems relatively free from oxidation. The hilt retains areas of original gilded finish. There is a small crack at the base of the pommel. Grip & wire are complete. Scabbard is undamaged and shows traces of original gilding. CONDITION: blade has a dark gray/black patina with 3/4" missing off the tip. Hilt shows light wear with a mustard patina. Grip leather is 95%. Wire is complete. Gilded brass hilt with eag...morele & party symbol languet on the front. The knuckle bow and backstrap are decorated with oak leaves & acorns. Lion head pommel with red eyes. Wire-wrapped black composite grip. There is a silver bullion and a green cloth knot tied to the hilt. Black lacquered iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a light gray patina with scattered spotting. Hilt is heavily tarnished with traces of original gilding. Grip is undamaged. Knots show light wear. Scabbard retains 65% of the original finish, but the suspension ring & loop are missing.
