Winchester 1894 RARE 38-55 Saddle Ring Carbine

Lot # 37 (Sale Order: 37 of 752)

Winchester 1894 Saddle Ring Carbine in rare and desirable .38-55 caliber, serial number 338518, made in 1907. This is the classic, early 1894 Carbine that was popular wit...moreh the Klondike gold seekers, Texas Rangers, cowboys, ranchers, big game hunters and Mexican Revolutionaries. One of the best of the Jonathan Browning designs; this model is still respected and used today. The standard caliber for the famed Model 1894 rifle and carbine was .30 WCF (Winchester Center Fire; AKA .30-30 Winchester). The .38-55 caliber is rarely encountered in rifles and even more rarely found in saddle ring carbine configuration. This fine 116 year old example still retains good lightly aged blue on the barrel and magazine tube. It has the carbine bead front sight and sports a buckhorn rear barrel sight with elevator bar. The receiver still retains some nice original blue around the saddle ring with the balance aged gray with good screw heads and fine blue on the protected loading gate. It has a tight action, lock-up, strong springs and a solid safety half-cock on the hammer. The bore is fairly bright with fine rifling all the way through. The butt stock and forearm show normal handling along with some honest saddle wear to the forearm ahead of the receiver, and tight wood to metal fit. The barrel displays correct, clear Winchester address markings and patent dates. The upper tang also has correct “MODEL 1894” over “Winchester” etc. markings. The Winchester 1894 saddle ring carbine is an iconic carbine from the turbulent days of the early part of the 20th century. This 1894 Carbine has great character, visual appeal and is especially scarce and desirable being chambered for the big .38-55 cartridge. Firearm classifies as a Curio and Relic or Modern Firearm and requires an FFL transfer or NICS background check.

Remington Model 1889 16 Gauge Damascus Shotgun

Lot # 38 (Sale Order: 38 of 752)

Particularly fine condition Remington Model 1889 hammer double barrel shotgun in extremely rare 16 gauge. Considered one of the finest shotguns of the period, the Remingt...moreon Model 1889 proved popular through the 1890s. Almost the entire production was 10 and 12 gauge with very few manufactured in 16 ga. Offered from plain to fancy grades, this example with serial number 94082 sports a checkered pistol grip stock and forend, case colored action and fancy Damascus barrels with solid rib. The forend also has a fancy inletted steel release lever. Frequently, these pre-20th century shotguns are found in very hard used and often abused condition. This outstanding example still retains some good aged case colors on the upper and lower receiver as well as on the lock plates. Finding any original case color is unusual and desirable. The high grade Damascus patterns are vivid and run the full length of the 30” barrels with excellent sharp matting on the rib. The top of the barrels in front of the breech is marked “REMINGTON ARMS CO. ILION, NY USA” and each side lock plate are also marked “REMINGTON ARMS CO.” The stock and forend show fine checkering with the forend displaying a fancy factory inletted horn forend cap. The wood is solid and in generally excellent condition. The butt stock is fitted with the correct factory hard rubber checkered butt plate with the attractive Remington logo embossed in the upper center. The action is extremely tight with no play between the barrels and receiver. Both hammers function perfectly with their corresponding triggers. Amazingly, both bores are mirror bright with no pitting or corrosion, which is unusual for any shotgun from this period. One of the most well-built and expensive shotguns of the 1890s period, the Remington was considered a top choice for any wealthy sportsman with deep pockets. During this time, America was flooded with fairly inexpensive European made shotguns. Sold through such catalogs as Sears & Roebuck, the average farmer, rancher, hunter and pioneer could have a durable shotgun… but not a Remington, which was in a class by itself and out of reach for most Americans of the time. These Remington made double guns are quite scarce now and are rarely found in the state of preservation of this example. Finding one in limited production 16 gauge is nearly impossible, especially in this fine condition with mirror bright bores! This is an Antique Firearm, NO FFL.
