Lot # 3004 (Sale Order: 4 of 479)

A splendid example of an early US militia belt rig consisting of an early militia plate and ornate red leather belt. For a similar example of the plate, refer to O'Donnell & Campbell, plate 169. This plate is circa 1825-1835 and features an eagle that was modeled after the regulation 1821 cap insignia with an additional modified sunburst, national motto ribbon, and 13 5-pointed stars overhead. A) Fully filled-out ledger, about 100 pages of an Ontario County shopkeeper, covering 1820-1840, but mainly from 1825 forward, the year the canal opened.
