FULL DOCUMENTED SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1903 NRA SPORTER

Lot # 4 (Sale Order: 4 of 687)

SERIAL NUMBER 1406724 BARREL 24" CALIBER 30-06 MANUFACTURED 1932. Inspired by the demand by the US shooting public for a quality sporting rifle Springfield manufactured 5538 Sporting model rifles known as the NRA Sporter. The rifles feature Lyman model 48 rear sight. Lyman blade front sight, original sight hood which does not appear to have ever been applied to the rifle. Blue finish and a sporter pattern stock not unlike the 1922 .22 rifle stock butt with 2 reinforcing screws, for and aft of receiver. Polished bolt with star gauged barrel and fitted with a contoured checkered steel butt plate. These rifles were of the highest quality but soon discontinued. The amazing thing about this rifle is that it comes with all the original paperwork. There is a letter, dated December 27, 1933 from War Department to Henry Allen, NRA member, in West Springfield Mass. from G.F. Herbert, Captain Infantry with price of $46.25. There is a shipping ticket dated Jan. 11, 1934 to Henry Allen from Springfield Armory. Next, there is the Star Gauge record listing this gun by serial number. Lastly, there is a signed and dated test target that also has the matching serial number. Never have we ever seen, nor heard of such a high condition gun with all it's original documentation to the original purchaser. CONDITION, Exceptionally fine with excellent bright bore and retains most all of the original finishes. The rifle shows little use or handling. A very fine example of the desirable NRA Sporter. C&R
