Rover Mini Sprite

Lot # 254 (Sale Order: 154 of 168)

This is the car that started the small car revolution Most of us squeezed ourselves behind the wheel at one time or another in our formative years and loved it There was something about driving a Mini a cheeky quality which todays breed of superminis have found impossible to duplicate It was an individual car created by an individualist Alexander Arnold Constantine IssigonisThe real genius was his idea of using a transverse engine to drive the front wheels via a gearbox built into the sump It was a revolutionary concept and one that soon came to the attention of the racing fraternityThe ‘Sprite’ replaced the ‘City’ with a 13 litre engine the seats too came in for the 1990s treatment and were based on those used in the Rover 200 with break back squabs which could be released to fold forward easing access to the rearBut it is a hoot The suspension will be a shock to those used to modern superminis but if you dont mind sacrificing a little comfort it’s the most fun you can have around town for the moneyDue to their competitive price point and enormous fun they remained a perennial favourite for young and old alike And as such there are very few left in fine original conditionIncredibly this really is just one lady owner from new Delivered new to Swain amp Jones Rover in Surrey with the added option of metallic silver paint it has received its annual MoT test certificate there every year until recently and for the last three years locally in the Dorking area Complete with the original owner’s pack and history back to 1996 this example looks unused and with just 5800 recorded I am not surprised

Ford Cortina Crusader Mk. V (1.6 litre)

Lot # 255 (Sale Order: 155 of 168)

The biggest step forward for the fourthgeneration Cortina was that it finally saw the convergence of the German Taunus and the British Cortina No longer were these two separate ranges but merely the same cars carrying different badges The Mk V was announced on 24th August 1979 and officially the program was code named Teresa although externally it was marketed as ‘Cortina 80’ Largely an update to the Mk IV it was really a step between a facelift and a rebody The Mk V differentiated itself from the Mk IV by having revised headlights with larger turn indicators incorporated a wider slatted grill said to be more aerodynamically efficient a flattened roof larger glass area slimmer Cpillars with revised vent covers larger slatted tail lights on saloon models and upgraded trim Improvements were also made to the engine range with slight improvements to both fuel economy and power output compared to the Mk IVOriginally registered in 1st August 1982 this Caribbean Blue Cortina Crusader is a familiar vehicle to men of a certain age Produced at a time when manufacturers were striving for quality as well as sales volume the Cortina was a car that ticked a lot of boxes Comfort and reliability were in abundance in the Mk V Cortina and JLG 888Y is a good example The 1593cc Pinto engine is capable of producing a brisk performance and clearly this has been a well looked after example The original handbooks are present and the history folder contains a host of invoices Supplied with a V5C registration document and a current MoT test certificate valid until 10th May 2018 this Ford Cortina is offered without reserve
