** Finnish Capture Marked Izhevsk Made Soviet SVT-40 Rifle

Lot # 110 (Sale Order: 109 of 200)

** Finnish Capture Marked Izhevsk Made Soviet SVT-40 Rifle World War II 7.62x54mmR. 24.6" barrel length. SN: K31052. Blued metal finish overall with the bolt left in th...moree white and set in a birchwood semi-pistol grip stock with perforated heat shield featuring seven ports in the upper handguard cover. Short stroke piston driven gas operated semi-automatic rifle featuring a tilting-bolt action and fed by detachable double stack magazines. The receiver displays the {Arrow within Triangle} marking of the Izhevsk arsenal below a date of 1941. Item mounts the early narrow triggerguard, perforated safety lever, thin wrist, and six-port muzzle brake typical of early SVT-40 production. Additionally, the receiver is cut for optics mounting, a feature common to SVT rifles that was later dropped during the latter days of 1941. Item mounts a non-matching stock that shows the Tula Arsenal {Arrow within Star} marking to the right stock and a serial number marking on the left stock corresponding to AN1166 in the Cyrillic alphabet. Item shows mixed serial numbers typical of SVTs captured by Finland and put through arsenal cleaning and refurbishment. Receiver shows assorted Soviet inspection stamps with the left stock displaying two marks below the serial number that appear to have been cut out. Magazine floorplate shows a boxed SA marking for Finnish capture and arsenal inspection. Comes with an unmarked leather sling in the pattern typical of Finnish SVTs, but comes without cleaning rod. The SVT-40 was the most produced self-loading rifle design fielded by the Soviet Union during World War II, and represented an iterative improvement over the preceding SVT-38, based in part upon the experiences of Red Army personnel during the Winter War of 1939-40. This improved SVT saw service during what the Finns referred to as the "Continuation War" with the Soviet Union, in which Finland attempted to retake control of the Karelian Isthmus and reverse Soviet territorial gains from the preceding conflict. Finnish troops captured numerous Soviet arms during both conflicts, and pressed them into service to supplement their own modest arsenal. The serial numbers of these arms rarely match, as they were typically mixed up during refurbishment and cleaning, but they also evaded the post-war refurbishment that most Soviet SVTs endured. This lot is located in Cincinnati. Condition: Good. Bore is Bright with strong rifling throughout with some light pitting to the grooves. Blued finish shows some handling wear and mars overall with flecking along the barrel and heat shield, some flecked oxidation on the triggerguard. Item shows some additional abrasions and scratches over the receiver and dustcover. Muzzle brake shows a crack at the muzzle end with light pitting throughout the interior surfaces. Bolt shows some brown mottling in places. Internal surfaces of the hammer and triggerguard show some light pitting that has been filled in by dip bluing. Edges of the stock are rounded and the markings weak, indicative of sanding. Stocks show handling mars and dings overall. Sling has cracking at the seams and some crazing and broken stitches. ** FB Radom wz.35 P.35(P) Vis Waffenampt Marked Three Lever Pistol World War II 9mm Para. 4.7" barrel length. SN: K8832. Blued metal finish overall mounting brown Bakel...moreite grip panels showing FB marking to the left panel and VIS to the right. Single action short recoil operated autoloading pistol fed by detachable single-stack magazines. Item lacks the stock slot but retains the takedown latch, consistent with the Grade II Vis 35s produced under German occupation. The slide is struck "P.35(P)" on the legend below the marking F.B. RADOM VIS Mod. 35 Pat. Nr.15567. Along with the K-prefix serial number, this indicates early production of the Grade II pattern pistols. Further markings include WWII German Eagle test proofs on the slide and left barrel lug. Further marks include the standard Radom {Eagle/WaA77} Waffenampt on the left slide, left frame, and {Eagle/77} beside the serial number on the right frame. Slide has been additionally struck with the {Eagle/623}marking assigned to Steyr produced and assembled arms. A similar mark appears on the right side of the barrel lug. Rough metal finish is consistent with wartime manufacturing standards. Serial numbers match where observed on the frame, interior slide, and on the barrel lug. A barrel gauge reading of 8,82 is struck onto the underside of the barrel near the breech block. Comes with one magazine that is has been struck with an X along the rear surface near the floorplate. Designed on the basis of John M. Browning's Colt 1911 pistol, the wz. 35 Vis successfully replaced the swinging link of the earlier design with wedge-driven unlocking, and employed further simplifications and reinforcement that produced one of the finest handguns of World War II. Piotr Wilniewczyc and Jan Skrzypiński developed the handgun to serve the army of independent Poland, with the first mass produced examples leaving the factory by 1936. Approximately 49,400 examples were produced before the Invasion of Poland in 1939, with a further 313,000 built for the Germans under occupation. Nazi Germany determined that Polish factory workers might smuggle completed handguns out of the Radom factory and into the hands of resistance fighters, so they transferred final assembly of the arms to Steyr, hence the presence of Steyr markings on completed samples. Having failed to ameliorate the innumerable reasons for the Poles to resist their oppressive rule, the Germans would later find themselves under fire from Vis 35 handguns assembled from parts smuggled out of the factory by members of the Polish Home Army. Despite its excellent qualities, production ceased in 1945, and the pistol was replaced in production by the Soviet Tokarev design following Poland's occupation by the USSR and consequent Communist takeover of the government. This lot is located in Cincinnati. Condition: Good. Bore is Frosty with some pinpoint pitting. External metal finish displays a patch of light pitting on top of the slide behind the front sight. Some operating wear to the internals and components. Gripstraps are taking on a brown patina with the remaining metal work showing light edgewear, some muzzle wear, and scattered light abrasions and flecking. Grips retain strong details with some chips along the outer edges. Magazine has a rough factory finish with brown patina forming and some pitting. Estimate: 2000 - 3000

**1943 Dated Soviet SVT-40 Bulgarian Refurbished

Lot # 115 (Sale Order: 114 of 200)

**1943 Dated Soviet SVT-40 Bulgarian Refurbished World War II 7.62x54mmR. 24.6" barrel length. SN: KZh4150. Blued metal refinish overall with dipped blued parts set in ...morea lacquered birchwood stock. Short-stroke piston driven tilting-bolt semi automatic rifle fed by detachable double stack magazines. The original serial number appears on the left stock with the last four digits re-struck vertically in the fashion of the Bulgarian refurbishment program. Receiver is struck with the {Star} logo of the Tula Arms factory with a further {Star with Arrow} struck into the right side of the stock. Both the stock and receiver are dated 1943. Serial numbers match on the interior upper handguard, triggerguard, bolt, bolt carrier. Features the reinforced stock and two-port muzzle brake typical of later production SVT pattern rifles. The A on the right stock indicates it was originally manufactured as an AVT, which is confirmed by the serial number range, but the trigger group provides semi-automatic fire only, and displays the flat knob to the safety lever indicative of the SVT rifle. Rifle comes with one non numbered magazine and a cleaning rod. The internals of the rifle and the majority of the barrel are still in the Cosmoline. Comes with an unmarked SVT pattern sling. Originally introduced as a product-improved version of the SVT-38 rifle, the SVT-40 served as the Soviet Union's primary self-loading rifle of World War II with some 1.6 million examples produced by 1945. Despite its promising performance in the hands of some of the Red Army's most experienced troops, a combination of desperate factory conditions, limited resources, and limited training for further recruits and conscripts of the USSR, resulted in the gradual reduction in production of the SVT. Instead, the Soviet Union invested in enormous numbers of submachine guns to provide enhanced automatic firepower to their infantry. The AVT-40 was introduced in 1942 as a select-fire version of the infantry rifle, but the rifles exhibited high rates of failure during full-auto fire, and demonstrated poor accuracy, particularly compared to period submachine guns. As a result, most of the AVT rifles were converted back to semi-automatic only trigger groups, with the failure of select-fire arms in 7.62x54mmR serving as a catalyst for the development of intermediate caliber arms such as the SKS rifle and AS-44, and eventually, the AK-47. This lot is located in Cincinnati. Condition: Very Good. Bore is Bright with some residues that should clean to Very Bright or better with sharp rifling. Metal finish shows some faint internal cycling scratches with some slight loss of finish on the charging handle. Finish is strong overall with few signs of handling after the dipped blue applied during refurbishing. The stock shows some scattered light mars and indentations along the toe and the underside of the stock. Sling shows some light stains with abrasions and some cracks forming in the leather loops. Estimate: 1500 - 2500

**Mid-1943 Production Remington Rand Model 1911A1 Pistol in Pasteboard Shipping Box with 2 Magazines

Lot # 116 (Sale Order: 115 of 200)

**Mid-1943 Production Remington Rand Model 1911A1 Pistol in Pasteboard Shipping Box with Two Magazines World War II .45 ACP. 5" barrel. SN: 978882 (mfg. ca.1943). Du-Li...morete blue finish on frame and slide, barrel and small parts blued, checkered "no ring" Keyes Fiber grip panels. Single action tilting barrel Browning designed magazine fed semi-automatic pistol with dovetailed notch rear sight and blade front sight. Right side of frame is marked UNITED SATED PROPERTY/NO 978882 and M1911 A1 U.S. ARMY forward of the grip above the triggerguard and with a crisp {Ordnance Wheel} cartouche at the rear edge. Right side of slide is unmarked. Left side of slide is marked with the Type II two-line Remington address which reads REMINGTON RAND INC./SYRACUSE, N.Y. U.S.A. just forward of the rear slide serrations. A crisp FJA (Frank J Atwood) inspection is present immediately below the slide stop and a P proof is present on the frame below the magazine release. A P is also present on the top of the slide, immediately forward of the rear sight index line. The blued High Standard barrel is appropriately marked HS on one side of the link lug and with a P on the opposite side. The pistol is accompanied by two S marked Scovill Manufacturing blued magazines, apparently unused and wrapped in brown wax paper. An old, well worn kraft box accompanies the pistol as well. This mid-1943 production pistol probably dates to around July for procurement and is approaching the end of the Du-Lite Blue finish period with Parkerizing becoming the primary finish sometime in the 1,XXX,XXX to 1,018,XXX range. The metal was sandblasted so the finish was quite dull and often looked more like Parkerizing from a casual glance. The pistol retains a checkered slide stop, correct for this period, with serrated slide stops becoming prevalent in the 1,XXX,XXX range. A really lovely and crisp Remington Rand 1911A1 in outstanding condition made at the height of World War II. This lot is located in Cincinnati. Condition: Excellent, showing little if any use. Bore is bright and crisp with some old dried grease or oil in the grooves and would probably clean with a little effort. Frame and slide retain nearly all of their finish with some minor thinning and high edge wear, likely from storage and handling. Barrel hood with some minor wear to the blue from cycling, probably by hand, as the breech face shows essentially no wear. Mechanically functional when cycled by hand, but slightly sluggish due to old, dried Cosmoline on the slide and frame rails. Dried Cosmoline is also present in the tight recesses and the protected areas, in particular in the slide serrations. Grips are very fine, with a couple of minor scuff marks along their lower edges. Kraft box with moderate to heavy wear, some damage and oil staining. Magazines fine. Estimate: 3000 - 5000
