Condition is fine as partially modified. Scope tube and barrel retain approx. 90% of a later accomplished browning. Stock with an additional coat of varnish and small repairs, and one very small fissure emanating from lockplate screw. Checkering has either been added or re-traced at one point. Fine Pair of Percussion Dueling Type Pistols, by Charles Moore, London, ca. 1830-1845, #988, .54 cal., 9'' platina banded octagonal barrels, inscribed ''77 St. James's Street / St. James's''; lockplates, hammers, upper tangs, and breech plugs show light vignette engraving, with clipped cornered square silver escutcheons at top of wrist areas. Lockplates additionally features hammer locks, and nipple bolsters with platina gas checks. Horn-tipped half-length checkered walnut bag-type stocks, with floral spay engraved blue triggerguards and pineapple finials; bottom of barrels beneath stocks marked ''C.M.-988'', and stock channels are marked ''IS''. In green baize-lined mahogany case with brass bands, corners, hardware, and flush-mounted handle; interior retailer's label marked ''Harvey & Son, Gunmakers, 68 South Street, Exeter''. Condition is near fine. Lightly swamped barrels have thinned and toned; addresses remain crisp. Bluing to triggerguards has thinned to approx. 75%. Stock with light general marks from handling, scuffs and scratches, with impressions and minor interruptions to check patterns. Actions are good, although one hammer stays back intermittently and probably needs a cleaning and re-oiling. Case remains in near excellent condition. Retailer label is in fact a known gunmaker and may be a later addition. Missing brass key and escutcheon. Partitions surrounding combination flask have come loose. Est.: $3,500-$5,000/pair. Pair of Fullstocked Early Flintlock Dueling Pistols, by Durs Egg, London, ca. 1770-1790, .58 cal., 8-1/2'' slightly swamped smoothbore octagonal twist barrels, top of barrels lightly inscribed ''D. Egg - London'', gold bushed flash holes, lightly border engraved flintlock, cock, triggerguard, and upper tang. Both tangs and triggerguards feature classic Stand of Arms. Lock features safety catch and pre-dates roller frizzens. Pommel caps and screws with large floral designs. Full-length walnut stocks with horn forend tips and cross-hatched punchdot checkered grip areas. Condition is fine. Barrels show classic fluid twist patterns with very mild thinning. Locks exhibit finish in protected areas and show well. Detail to bottom of triggerguards and pommels has thinned and shows moderate carbon spotting.
