Winchester Pre ‘64 Model 70 Super Grade Bolt Action Rifle

Lot # 1 (Sale Order: 1 of 752)

serial #116159, 30-06, 24'' barrel with a bright excellent bore. This lovely rifle appears as though it was purchased and perhaps hunted once or twice and then put away. The metal surfaces retain about 98-99% original blue, the loss due to some very light fading, a bit of high edge wear and some drifting on the bolt knob. The bolt body remains bright and is electric pencil-numbered to the gun on its underside. The Super Grade checkered pistolgrip American walnut stock rates very fine to perhaps near excellent with all its original varnish and only sparsely scattered very light handling marks here and there, again from careful use afield. The hard rubber gripcap is excellent, ebony tip is intact and even the buttplate shows only a slight amount of wear at the heel and along the sharp edges. The rifle retains its original front sight and hood, the rear sight slot has been blanked and mounted to the factory holes are Bausch & Lomb scope bases which support a Balvar telescopic sight with post and crosshair reticle and very fine to excellent optics; it appears to be perhaps a 4X power. The original Super Grade swivels are included. A very handsome, very well-cared for vintage hunting outfit, clearly purchased and used a few times but then put away. (3B10159-4) {C&R} (2500/4000)

Remington-Lee Model 1899 Bolt Action Sporting Rifle

Lot # 4 (Sale Order: 4 of 752)

serial #F75816, 6mm Lee Navy, 28'' round barrel with a bright very good plus to near excellent bore showing some scattered mild frosting and strong rifling throughout. The metal surfaces of this rifle retain about 94% original blue with most of the loss due to some scattered light handling marks and sparse freckling. There is some thinning along the triggerguard and bolt knob, the triggerguard and muzzle also with a little mild oxidation staining that is unobtrusive. The ejector spring and its retainer screw show lovely fire blue and all markings remain intact and strong. The magazine retains about 85-90% original blue that is thinning and toning to a mild gray-brown patina. The checkered walnut round knob pistolgrip stock with schnabel tip remains in very good plus condition retaining much of its original finish that has acquired a fine craquelure overall and showing a thin 3'' scratch on the right side ahead of the magazine well and the expected overall light dings and handling marks from the years. The ebony tip insert is intact and there are two vacant screw holes at the heel spaced 2'' apart for mounting a period heel target sight. There is no rear sight dovetail on the barrel and the rifle is equipped with its scarce original rear peep sight mounted to the cocking piece and a Lyman No. 4 Hunting front sight with ivory bead. The action seems to function well mechanically and there is vintage 6mm ammunition and additional original magazine available in the Online Only Auction. This is a very fine example of these interesting and low-production Remington sporting rifles. (13A10153-11) {C&R} (1000/1500)

Handsome AH Fox A Grade Boxlock Double Shotgun

Lot # 5 (Sale Order: 5 of 752)

serial #202953, 20 ga. (2 1/2''), 26'' chromox fluid steel barrels choked improved cylinder and modified with bright excellent bores. This is a superb small bore A-Grade shotgun with condition galore. The barrels retain an even 98% original blue, the loss due just to light fading and a bit of muzzle wear. The A-Grade engraved frame retains about 98% original color case-hardening which is vibrant throughout showing just a bit of fading at left side of the belly with very little evident wear on the standing breech. The screws are all properly registered and the arm does not appear as though it has ever been touched by a screwdriver. The checkered capped pistolgrip American walnut buttstock rates excellent with a sparsely scattered minor handling mark here or there, much original varnish, some very slight darkening at the head of the stock and a tiny chip at the rear of the upper tang which wouldn't warrant mention were it not for the very fine condition of the gun. The splinter style forend is similar with only one mentionable ding on the left side rear and excellent color case-hardening on the metal hardware. The length of pull to the original grooved hard rubber buttplate is 14 1/8'' with drops of 1 7/8'' and 3 3/8''. As-expected the arm locks up Fox-tight with the top lever still well right of center and the barrels tight on-face. Features double trigger, extractors, automatic safety and the gun seems to function properly mechanically. A very lovely small bore A-Grade overall from-which it would be difficult to upgrade. It would certainly be a very welcomed addition to the discerning sportsman's battery and would be a head-turner afield. (3D10122-1) {C&R} (3500/5000)

serial #410019, 32 HPS (32 Special), 26'' Special Smokeless Steel octagon barrel with full magazine and a bright very good plus to near excellent bore showing a little fi...morene oxidation in the grooves and strong rifling throughout. The action retains about 92% original case-hardened colors that are muting slightly to a pleasant silvery pewter patina, also with a little gray-brown speckling, the colors quite attractive overall. The small action parts retain about 95% original blue, the buttplate shows some oxidation staining and the nosecap shows thinning blue. All markings remain intact and crisp with the ''MARLIN SAFETY'' moved forward for the Hepburn sight screws. The walnut stocks remain in near excellent condition showing strong original finish thinning somewhat along the forend, a very tiny flake forming at the heel and the expected sparsely scattered light dings. A very handsome Marlin that appears to have seen only careful light use and retains some lovely condition. (13C10125-8) {C&R} (2000/3000)

Lot # 15 (Sale Order: 15 of 752)

serial #571501B, 44 WCF, 30" round barrel with full magazine and a bright excellent bore showing a few light freckles nearer the muzzle and strong rifling throughout. This is a very nice rifle that has been the victim of some storage issues but still retains strong original condition. The barrel retains about 95% original blue with most of the loss due to a 2 1/2" area of light to perhaps moderate pitting behind the rear band and otherwise just some scattered light handling marks. The bands retain about 85% original bright blue with loss due to scattered small areas of moderate pitting. The action retains near 90% original bright blue with flaking to a pleasant gray-brown patina along the top and right side again showing a few small patches of pitting along the right side, lower tang and one area along the left side. The screw heads are clean and show brilliant fire blue, as do the loading gate, extractor and rear sight spring. The lever and hammer retain 90% strong case-hardened colors showing some scattered light oxidation and areas muting to a deep gray smoky patina, the buttplate also showing some attractive smoky colors. All markings are intact and quite crisp including the cartridge lifter caliber designation. The smooth walnut buttstock and full-length forend remain in very fine condition showing the expected scattered light dings and dents with otherwise very strong oil finish. The sling swivels and original sights are intact and the action seems to function well mechanically. Despite a few apologies this rifle remains a very handsome example for the Winchester collector. Scarce U.S. Remington-Beals Army Model Percussion Revolver

Lot # 17 (Sale Order: 17 of 752)

serial #1416, .44 cal, 8'' octagon barrel with a partially bright good bore showing some scattered areas of moderate oxidation and pitting with otherwise strong rifling throughout. The metal surfaces of this revolver have mostly toned to a mix of gunmetal gray and gray-brown patina showing scattered partially smoothed-over old pitting and some dings or tool marks mostly along the forward edges of the frame. The hammer is a uniform pale gray patina and may be an old replacement and the triggerguard has taken on a greenish ocher patina showing some light dings. The barrel address has softened slightly from the years and remains partially legible while the Beals patent date is very strong and the major components show visible ''HH'' sub-inspector stamps. The cylinder is properly without safety notches and the front sight appears to be an old period replacement and is vaguely cone-shaped ocher brass. The smooth walnut grips remain in very good plus condition showing worn finish, a few light dings and handling marks. They appear to be un-numbered and fit the frame very well and both retain evident, if rather faint, inspector cartouches. All of the remaining serialized parts are matching and the action seems to function well mechanically with solid timing and lock-up. Only about 750 of these revolvers were accepted by U.S. Ordnance and most did not survive the war due to their early use. (13B10124-6) {ANTIQUE} (2000/3000)

Lot # 19 (Sale Order: 19 of 752)

serial #13268, 30 Luger, 4 3/4'' barrel with a partially bright very good bore showing some scattered fine oxidation and frosting with strong rifling throughout. The metal surfaces of this pistol retain about 80% original blue showing some moderate high edge wear, gripstraps thinning to gray-brown patina and some scattered light pitting and oxidation staining mostly along the high edges and barrel. The small ''GERMANY'' mark along the front edge of the frame has been ground off while the DWM monogram and Federal Eagle remain intact and crisp. The left grip screw is an old replacement and the front sight has also been replaced during the period of use with a brass bead. The secondary leaf spring that should be affixed to the mainspring is missing, causing the grip safety to have no tension, the manual safety otherwise functions as-intended as does the action and the serialized parts are matching. Scarce U.S. Pettengill Army Model Double Action Percussion Revolver

Lot # 21 (Sale Order: 21 of 752)

serial #3913, .44 cal, 7 1/2'' octagon barrel with a partially bright about good bore showing scattered light pitting, oxidation and good rifling. The barrel of this revolver retains generous streaks of original bright blue throughout, retaining perhaps 20-25%, with the balance thinning and toning to a pleasant mild gray-brown patina. The remaining metal surfaces are a similar mix of dark gray and gray-brown patina showing some sparsely scattered light dings and pinprick pitting along the frame and cylinder. The bottom strap of the frame shows a neatly executed weld repair, as do the forward sections of the cylinder, which show a mottled brown and plum patina when viewed under bright light along with a couple of evident pits. This repair work was well-executed and is mostly unobtrusive and the markings remain intact and mostly strong showing patent dates along the topstrap and sub-inspector stamps on the various components. The smooth walnut grips are stamp-numbered to the gun and remain in very fine condition showing remnants of oil finish with some scattered light dings and handling marks and the left panel retaining a very good inspector cartouche. The serialized parts are matching, one of the nipples is broken and the cylinder will counter-rotate but the action otherwise seems to function normally. A very good example of these interesting, if rather complicated, double action ''hammerless'' Civil War revolvers. Only about 2000 of these revolvers were delivered to the U.S. government and were issued to a variety of cavalry units before being withdrawn due to persistent mechanical problems. The cylinder retains about 50% original bright blue appearing strong under ambient light, with the balance flaked to an attractive gray-brown patina and showing some light operational wear. The cylinder scene with Whitneyville shield, lion, eagle and naval scene is really quite lovely and almost completely intact. The frame has taken on a mild gray tone with light handling marks and strong flakes of original blue in the protected areas. The trigger and most of the screw heads show fine fire blue while the hammer and loading lever show attractive case-hardened colors. The triggerguard is a mild ocher with remnants of tarnished silver plate. The loading lever plunger link is broken but the plunger is present. The smooth walnut grips are stamp-numbered to the gun and remain in excellent condition and the other numbered parts are also matching. The action is crisp with solid timing and lock-up. This is a lovely Whitney Navy revolver, this model rarely seen with any condition. (13B10124-11) {ANTIQUE} (2000/3000)

Cased Savage Model 1899 250-3000 Takedown Rifle with Shotgun Barrel

Lot # 25 (Sale Order: 25 of 752)

serial #246043, 250-3000 & 410 bore, 22'' tapered round rifle barrel with a bright near excellent bore showing a hint of minor frosting near the muzzle and strong rifling throughout and 22'' round shotgun barrel choked full with a bright excellent bore showing a few minor freckles. This rifle may have been factory-refurbished or reworked as it is slightly outside of the normal range for 250-3000 rifles and shows a later style buttstock and grooved trigger. The rifle barrel retains about 90% original blue showing some scattered very light oxidation staining and mild handling marks with the blue taking on a dark plum patina under bright light. The shotgun barrel retains about 95% original blue showing a few very small areas of light pitting. The action retains about 80-85% factory rust blue showing some overall thinning to pewter gunmetal along with a couple small dings and areas of light pitting on the sides. The lever retains strong case-hardened colors throughout with some areas muting slightly and the bolt remains mostly bright. All markings remain intact and strong and the left side action and barrel show ''SAP'' Savage proof stamp. The checkered pistolgrip walnut buttstock and schnabel forend remain in very fine condition showing a very neat 1 5/8'' patched repair at the right edge forend, a few very thin slivers near the upper tang and some scattered light handling marks. The checkering shows some light wear and the buttstock and buttplate are matching; the forend is numbered ''246048'', likely a factory error but is the correct length for a 250-3000. The rifle is sighted with proper German silver bead front sight on integral ramp, a flattop sporting rear and Lyman tang sight with wide aperture disc. The action seems to function well mechanically and the shotgun barrel will require a little additional fitting to get the forend to seat fully. The vintage W. W. Winship black case remains in very good plus condition showing some scattered scuffs and handling marks along the exterior. The interior is lined with deep purple baize that shows some mild staining and scuffs. A fine two-barrel set for the Savage collector.
