Lot # 43 (Sale Order: 45 of 356)

Antique Colt Single Action Army Revolver, SN 111243. Accompanied by a Colt Archive Letter that confirms it’s configuration as a .45 caliber revolver, with blue finish, ...morerubber stocks, with a 7 1/2” barrel and was shipped to Hartley & Graham in New York on October 25, 1884 in a shipment of 50 guns. The serial number matches on the frame, trigger guard and back strap. The revolver remains in very good factory original condition. There is a high percentage of original blue remaining with muted case colors on the frame and hammer. The factory applied markings are clearly stamped. The action functions properly and the bore is very good. There is an inscription on the back strap that appears to read “Gene to Jack 1885”. The revolver is also accompanied by a 1952 letter from F.B. Smith to Colt asking for information on this gun and another 1952 letter from the Colt Service Department indicating that they could not provide the information requested. It is also accompanied by a letter from John Gangel where he states “To whom it may concern : Let this serve as a letter of provenance on Colt Single Action Army #111243. I first became aware of this Colt about a year ago or so when an old gun trader name Bob Miraldo turned it up at a flea market near Reno. He priced it to the moon and it took me 2 shows to buy it reasonably though still "too high". The reason I paid a lot for it was I had and other Colt SA in the same range 111XXX within about 20 numbers that had a Dodge City inscription and presentation it is recorded in Cochrans book. Keith Cochran and Joe Kiser were personal friends and they concluded that a shipment of 50 firearms went to Dodge City from Hartley & Graham on October 25, 1884 all numbered in the 111,250 range. They came to this theory from three to four other guns with associations to Dodge City in this range. Joe Kiser mentioned this twice in his notebook. Which I gave to Larry Wilson after selling Joe's collection. The letters speak for themselves with an association to John D Stewart druggist and posse member in Dodge City who knew "Bat" Masterson and other notables. FS Smith of Odessa Texas was a relation of JD Stewart who sought history from Colt in 1952. An old notched pistol is mentioned as passing in the Smith family in an enclosed genealogy. In conclusion I will state I believe Colt #111243 went to Dodge City and belonged to J.D. Stewart.”

Lot # 44 (Sale Order: 46 of 356)

Antique Colt Single Action Army Revolver, SN 80750. Accompanied by a Colt Archive Letter that confirms it’s configuration as a .44/40 caliber revolver, blue finish with...more barrel length and stocks not listed. The letter notes that the barrel was likely a 7 1/2” and stocks were likely walnut stocks as these were the standard features at this time. It was shipped to Hartley & Graham in New York on August 2, 1882 in a shipment of 50 guns. The serial number matches on the frame, trigger guard and back strap with the last 4 digits on the cylinder. The revolver remains in factory original condition with a very clear etched panel, that may have been freshened on the left side of the barrel that reads "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER". There are very minor traces of finish remaining. The factory applied markings are clearly stamped. The action functions properly and the bore is good. The original walnut stocks are in good condition with moderate bumps and dings, a chipped toe and some amount of original varnish.
