Lot # 346 (Sale Order: 46 of 307)

Antique U.S. Artillery Colt, SAA Revolver, .45 COLT caliber, SN 112470, with 4 3/4" barrel. Between 1895 and 1903, the government had nearly 17,000 of its SAAs reconditi...moreoned and rebuilt by the Springfield Armory and the Colt Factory. Most of these revolvers had the barrels shortened to 5 1/2". Since most revolvers were reassembled without concern for part numbers, this is one of the few collectible gun variations that is considered "Correct" with mixed serial numbers, meaning that the various parts of the gun will usually not match each other. Such is the case with this example. Manufactured in 1884, the serial number 112470 is on the frame, 119155 on the trigger guard and no visible number on the backstrap with the last four digits 3160 on the cylinder. The two line barrel address is worn, difficult to read and an indication that the barrel has been replaced. The three line patent dates and U.S. on the frame are clear and readable. The ".45 CAL" caliber marking on the barrel is clear and readable. The action functions properly and the bore is good with minor roughness. The walnut grips fit very well and are original to the period. There is a minor small chip missing from the right grip at the toe area.

Between 1895 and 1903, the govern...morement had nearly 17,000 of its SAAs reconditioned and rebuilt by the Springfield Armory and the Colt Factory. Most of these revolvers had the barrels shortened to 5 1/2". The SN "50484" and the initials "H.N." is stamped on the frame, trigger guard and back strap. The barrel, cylinder, hammer and grips are replaced. The barrel address is worn, difficult to read and an indication that the barrel has been replaced. The 3 line patent dates and the U.S. on the frame are clear and readable. The action functions properly and the bore is excellent.
