Abstract of Infantry Tactics; Including Exercises and Maneuvers of Light-Infantry and Riflemen; For The Use of The Militia of The United States. Published by Hilliard, Gray, Little and Wilkins, 1830. Good condition. SIGNED AND OWNED BY COLONEL JAMES W. SEVER - The bookplate is from the Massachusetts National Guard. Some facts on James Warren Sever (1797-1871) "James Warren Sever was commander of the "Harvard Washington Corps" and on the occasion of the visit of President Monroe to Cambridge in 1817. He was recommended by President Monroe to apply for an appointment to the academy at West Point." In 1820 shipped before the mast for the Northwest Coast in the employ of the house of Perkins, continued with them for 15 years, having had command of an East Indiaman for some years. Adjutant of the Independent Cadets in 1844, Lieut. Colonel commanding same 1849-50.
