Item Details
The P.38 is a 9mm Luger semi-automatic pistol that was developed by Carl Walther GmbH as the service pistol of the German Army at the beginning of World War II. The P.38 was a groundbreaking semi-automatic pistol design, which introduced technical features still used today in current commercial and military semi-automatic pistols. It was in production from 1939 to 1945. During WWII, the P.38 was produced by three separate manufacturers: Walther, Mauser, and Spreewerk. To conceal manufacturer identities, each wartime manufacturer used a letter code: ac (Walther); byf (Mauser), and cyq (Spreewerk). The Mauser factory was liberated by the Allied forces in April 1945. Control of the factory was handed over to the French army which was in desperate need of firearms. Many P.38 parts were still available in the Mauser storage rooms and the French decided to take advantage of this to produce P.38 pistols for their own needs. Mauser used the secret code byf up to 1944 but changed in 1945 to SVW. The last two digits of the production year were stamped behind the code. The French applied a five-pointed star as inspection stamp, which can be found on the right side of the slide. The French continued with the serial numbering system as applied by the Germans, starting in the g-block (the letter “g” behind the serial number). A very small number of French Mauser P.38s were produced with German surplus "parkerized" grey sheet metal grips with copper colored finish, which are now known by collectors as "Grey Ghost's". This French Occupied Mauser P.38 Grey Ghost is marked "SVW 45" on the left side of the frame, five pointed inspection stamp on the right side of the frame and import marked Interarms under the slide. Features include a 4.9" barrel, Grey Ghost grips, lanyard ring, 8-round magazine and sells complete with post-war black leather holster. This gun is nice condition with very light wear, has an excellent sharp/ clean bore and is in perfect working order.

- Each successful buyer will receive a invoice FROM PROXIBID within 24 hours after the conclusion of the auction. This will be a "FINAL INVOICE" which will include shipping and/ or any other fees that may apply.

- There is a $15 Per Gun Paperwork Fee. This applies to guns being shipped and still applies if the buyer is an dealer.
- ALL GUNS BEING SHIPPED MUST BE SHIPPED TO AN FFL OR C&R - THIS INCLUDES BLACK POWDERS & ANTIQUES - This is an Illinois Law
- It is the buyers responsibility to have their dealer (Sporting Goods Store, Pawn Shop or Local Gun Dealer) email us a copy of their license - auction@willsullivanauction.com PLEASE HAVE YOUR DEALER INCLUDE YOUR NAME SOMEWHERE ON THE EMAIL.

- Guns may be picked up to avoid shipping costs. All Federal & State Gun Laws/ holding periods apply. The procedure for picking up a gun is the same as buying a gun in a gun store.
- SHIPPING RATES - 1 long gun = $60, 1 handgun = $40, $10 for each additional gun, regardless if it is a long gun or handgun.
- SHIPPING EXAMPLES - 2 long guns = $70, 2 handguns = $50, 1 long gun & 1 handgun = $70, 3 long guns = $80, 3 handguns = $60 - Items other than firearms will have a shipping cost listed and the end of the description
- ITEMS WILL BE SHIPPED ONCE WE HAVE RECEIVED PAYMENT AND FFL/ C&R COPY FOR SHIPPING. FOR FASTEST SHIPPING - USE CREDIT CARD ON FILE AND HAVE YOUR FFL EMAILED BY MONDAY.
- Each successful buyer will receive a tracking number from UPS when their package(s) have shipped.
