Item Details
This Saber comes with a signed/ dated letter from the family dictating it's history, which reads "The story passed down through the family is that this sword was issued by the Union Army to Balser Ahaz Swisher. B.A. Swisher was born in Virginia and moved with his parents, John and Priscilla Swisher, to a farm on the Fulton County/ McDonough County (Illinois) line in 1850. At age 17 B.A. Swisher enlisted, near the end of the war (U.S. Civil War), and received this sword, which was passed down through the family. John Evans"... The Model 1860 Light Cavalry Saber is a long sword made of steel and brass, used by US Cavalry from the American Civil War until the end of the Indian wars; some were still in use during the Spanish–American War. It is 41" long with a 35" blade and weighs 2 lb. 4 oz alone or 3 lb. 10 oz with iron scabbard. M1860s were carried not only by Cavalry but also by many Infantry and Staff officers, as the regulation Model 1850 Army Staff & Field Officers' Sword had to be privately purchased. This M1860 is marked "U.S. / J.F. / 1864", the reverse ricasso bears “AMES MFG CO / CHICOPEE / MASS.” in the three-line scroll pattern. This sword sports a brass hilt with two-branch guard and knuckle bow, the hilt retains its original buff leather washer, domed pommel cap that bears the inspector’s stamped of “A.H.K.” on the brim and center-swell leather handle grips (missing original wire wrap). This saber is showing age, but appears to be all original and sells complete with original iron scabbard. Shipping Cost $30 or free pick up. - Each successful buyer will receive a invoice FROM PROXIBID within 24 hours after the conclusion of the auction. This will be a "FINAL INVOICE" which will include shipping and/ or any other fees that may apply.

- There is a $15 Per Gun Paperwork Fee. This applies to guns being shipped and still applies if the buyer is an dealer.
- ALL GUNS BEING SHIPPED MUST BE SHIPPED TO AN FFL OR C&R - THIS INCLUDES BLACK POWDERS & ANTIQUES - This is an Illinois Law
- It is the buyers responsibility to have their dealer (Sporting Goods Store, Pawn Shop or Local Gun Dealer) email us a copy of their license - auction@willsullivanauction.com PLEASE HAVE YOUR DEALER INCLUDE YOUR NAME SOMEWHERE ON THE EMAIL.

- Guns may be picked up to avoid shipping costs. All Federal & State Gun Laws/ holding periods apply. The procedure for picking up a gun is the same as buying a gun in a gun store.
- SHIPPING RATES - 1 long gun = $60, 1 handgun = $40, $10 for each additional gun, regardless if it is a long gun or handgun.
- SHIPPING EXAMPLES - 2 long guns = $70, 2 handguns = $50, 1 long gun & 1 handgun = $70, 3 long guns = $80, 3 handguns = $60 - Items other than firearms will have a shipping cost listed and the end of the description
- ITEMS WILL BE SHIPPED ONCE WE HAVE RECEIVED PAYMENT AND FFL/ C&R COPY FOR SHIPPING. FOR FASTEST SHIPPING - USE CREDIT CARD ON FILE AND HAVE YOUR FFL EMAILED BY MONDAY.
- Each successful buyer will receive a tracking number from UPS when their package(s) have shipped.
