Current FIA Historic Technical Passport valid until 31st December 2025Rebuilt from a bare-shellDescribed by vendor as being in 'exceptional condition'Comes with a large history file including Dyno read-out sheets and engine data The Austin-Healey Sprite is a diminutive open sports car produced from 1958 to 1971 and was announced to the press in Monte Carlo by the British Motor Corporation on 20th May 1958 just before that year's Monaco Grand Prix. BMC works entries recorded class wins at Sebring with drivers including Stirling Moss Bruce McLaren and Steve McQueen as well as competing in the Targa Florio and Mugello sports car races. The car presented here is a 1960 Austin Healey Frogeye built as an FIA Historic Rally Car. It has been completely rebuilt from a bare-shell and has a Current FIA Historic Technical Passport which is valid until 31st December 2025. It is described by the vendor as being in 'exceptional condition’ and comes with a large history file which includes Dyno read-out sheets and engine data. 1963 Ford Galaxie

Lot # 205 (Sale Order: 5 of 24)

Very rare race prepared Galaxie 500 built by Richard ButterfieldA replica of Jack Sears' BSCC 1963 championship winning car Has raced at Goodwood and various other high profile events Fresh Peter Knight V8 under the bonnet and in great condition One of the most versatile and talented racers of the 1950s and 1960s Jack Sears made a name for himself in saloon car racing racing a variety of cars over many years. Known as 'Gentleman Jack' as a result of his immaculate appearance and impeccable manners he also excelled in other disciplines and was a serious competitor in his AC Cobra. Jack had already won the inaugural 1958 British Saloon Car Championship in an Austin Westminster but his decision to attempt to replicate that success in 1963 in an enormous Galaxie 500 met with some amusement. He proved the doubters wrong however when he took to the saloon car grid with the 7-litre Ford. Nobody believed a car so large could be competitive against more nimble cars like the Mini and Lotus Cortina but the leviathan proved surprisingly wieldy. Its straight-line performance was also more than capable of seeing off the competition and he claimed the 1963 title having raced the Galaxie a Lotus Cortina and a Ford Cortina GT all in one season. This stunning and very rare race-prepared Ford Galaxie was built by Richard Butterfield as a replica of that legendary 1963 Galaxie 500 driven by the late Jack Sears. In fact this special piece of Americana was prepared for Lord March himself and has also raced at the wonderful Goodwood Revival and various high profile events run by the team at 'Masters’. There is a fresh Peter Knight-built V8 under the bonnet and our vendor describes the car as "in good all round race condition". With demand ever increasing for Goodwood entries and other high profile events this rare beastie looks to offer unique potential access to the biggest and best Historic events on the planet.

1987 Ford Sierra Cosworth 'Group A' Rally Car

Lot # 206 (Sale Order: 6 of 24)

Fresh from an outright win in March 2018 in the 'Legends' Class of the Rally Isla MallorcaDry stored for fifteen years before prior to a full restoration with lots of mechanical input. Big specNew floor. Remaining body remarkably sound displaying no structural damage over its lifetime Engine block replaced with one of the last YB200 units from Cosworth. New Mahle pistons crank cams ++Gearbox is an original T5 with an all-new close-ratio Quaife cluster and quick-shiftIncredible value for one of the most competitive Group A rally cars available anywhere today When Stuart Turner was appointed the head of Ford Motorsport in Europe in 1983 he quickly came to the conclusion that the company was no longer competitive in motorsport. Walter Hayes having instigated the Cosworth DFV engine and Fords assault on Le Mans with the GT40 was still the driving force at Ford. Not surprisingly Hayes was enthusiastic about Turner's plans to produce a turbocharged Cosworth 2.0 litre engine that would power a Ford saloon in motorsport. Cosworth already had a cylinder head design that fitted the bill which used the Ford T88 Pinto block. So they agreed to produce the 2.0litre turbo engine but only if Ford signed-off a production run of 15000 units. The introduction of the Sierra in 1982 required a marketing boost so it was allocated to become the platform for Ford's new competition aspirations. It was rear wheel drive it had good aerodynamics albeit being prone to lift at high speeds and it was available as a three-door. The new body kit and rear spoiler would sort out the lift issues. But Ford still needed to build 5000 units for homologation; this was somewhat worrying when Turner's initial approach to the dealer network came back with an estimate that suggested they could sell around 1500 units! The Sierra's eventual sales record is of course history. Ford went on to sell 5545 three-door cars including the RS500 and the Cosworth engine also found its way into nearly 30000 Ford Sierra Saloons (Cosworth 3dr Sapphire 2wd and 4wd).The Sierra Cosworth comfortably exceeded Ford's wishes and it went on to become one of the most successful Touring Car racers of all time winning races all over the world. In rallying the Group A Sierra on tarmac was equal to all the four wheel drive opposition particularly when Didier Auriol won the 1988 Corsica Rally outright.Offered here is an immaculately prepared and engineered 'Group A' Sierra Cosworth fresh from an outright win in March 2018 in the 'Legends' Class of the Rally Isla Mallorca. It began its life as an original DDR Motorsport factory car first used by Frederik Blaresque in the French Rally Championship in 1988. In the early nineties it was sold and registered in Spain and campaigned by the late Juan Luis Sarasola a well known national rally driver before being sold once more prior to becoming the property of our vendor himself a winner of the Rally Isla Mallorca. The Cosworth had been dry stored for some fifteen years before he embarked on a full restoration and the quality of the work and massive mechanical input have resulted in one of the most competitive Group A rally cars available anywhere today. The restoration of the shell required only a new floor which is almost a rallying consumable with the remaining body remarkably sound displaying no structural damage over its lifetime. The original engine block was replaced with one of the last YB200 units from Cosworth and built up with modern know-how. New Mahle pistons a new crank and new camshafts were fitted and all other parts replaced where necessary. The engine build was completed by knowledgeable Cosworth engineer Diego De Casa with mapping by the specialist Ahmed Bayjoo resulting in a reliable 350bhp at 1.7 bar boost. The gearbox is an original T5 with an all-new close-ratio Quaife cluster and quick-shift built and installed by John Roberts of the Tommi Makinen camp. He also assembled the differential which is a 7.5 inch unit with a new Gripper Limited Slip unit and a 4.4 final drive. The suspension and running gear is all new Bilstein and Group A 909 built to the original Ford homologation specification front and rear. The seats harnesses and automatic FEV fire extinguisher system were fitted new last year and the car has recently been inspected by the Spanish Federation gaining historic papers and the equivalent to a UK MoT (ITV).This Group A Sierra rally car is as good as it gets and is offered here at a guide less than half of its likely build cost. Its authentic period factory spec and recent rally success make this a very desirable rally Sierra Cosworth and with its Group A racing counterparts making nearly £200000 this rally car is incredible value and would be welcome at Historic Rally events anywhere.

1973 Ford Capri 3.0 GXL Group 1

Lot # 207 (Sale Order: 7 of 24)

Built by Ford for the 1973 Avon Tour of Great Britain to be driven by HRH Prince Michael of Kent Used by Tom Walkinshaw to win Class'C' in the 1974 British Saloon Car Championship (Group 1)Raced by Barry Sheene in a Celebrity Race at Brands Hatch during 1974Successful in Stuart Rolt's hands in the BSCC in 1975XWC 713L was retired by Ford in 1978 and sold privately. Remained in storage until 2014Recently mechanically rebuilt to '74/75 Group 1 spec. Otherwise untouched. Runs and drives and used for showsThe only car ever to have been raced by a member of the Royal Family Barry Sheene and Tom Walkinshaw A 'Tour of Britain' taking place on public roads rally special stages and established motor racing circuits and involving rally drivers top names from circuit racing journalists and celebrities had been mooted since the early 1960s but never came about until 1973. The argument about whether rally drivers hurtling through forests in the middle of the night not knowing what was around the next corner were more talented/braver than circuit racers balancing their cars on tiptoe around Spa in the rain at 180mph had occupied many a night in the pub amongst enthusiasts but now it appeared it was going to be in the public domain. As Motor Sport wrote in early 1973 'The Avon-sponsored Tour of Britain for Group One saloon cars divided into four price-groups which takes place from July 6th-8th is attracting much attention and looks like providing excellent publicity for the winning makes. This is because it offers something different—perhaps just that shot-in-the-arm in which the competition scene is in dire need? Racing drivers will compete against rally drivers so this cannot be regarded purely as a "driver's benefit" in which the cars scarcely count. Speed round race circuits will be balanced against performances over rally stages. It is the variety which has caught the public imagination'. Dozens of top names from Formula One international rallying motoring journalism and television were rumoured to be taking part with features in the press and on television and of course then as now there was no point in letting facts get in the way of a good story. The Ford Motor Company are never far away when there is the possibility of publicity for their products and naturally decided to get involved. They entered three 3-litre GXL Capris in the recently homologated facelift quad-headlamp form and naturally there were a number of drivers keen for a seat but it came together quite quickly as Ford wanted a broad-based team; which finally comprised Roger Clark/Tony Mason(household names in period) Dave Matthews (Broadspeed touring cars) Nigel Clarkson (Aurora F1) Charles Reynolds (Ford's rallying guru) and HRH Prince Michael of Kent (sporting royalty). The three brand new Capris were registered with consecutive number plates XWC 712L 713 and 714 and were sent off to Boreham to be prepared. 'Our' car was 713 and was to be driven by Nigel Clarkson and HRH Prince Michael. Ford was naturally keen to enjoy the publicity that would surely follow the success of these cars and they were prepared within an inch of their lives. Our vendor Graham has an encyclopedic knowledge of his car (713) and tells us that Borehamwood were too busy to cope and the Capri engines so they were sent elsewhere in the case of 713 to Neil Brown Engineering. As a production engine it couldn't be modified but it was 'blueprinted' lightened and balanced and returned to Fotds boasting 165bhp.The Tour started at the Avon works in Melksham on 6th July and finished late on 9th July in Bath taking in circuit races at Llandow Oulton Park Silverstone Brands Hatch and a night race at Snetterton as well as five rally special stages and a thousand miles of public roads. The event was won by James Hunt and Rob Fearnall in a Camaro and Prince Michael finished a respectable 16th with Roger Clark suffering two breakdowns and fighting his way back up to 24th. A number of Ford privateers finished in the top ten and lots of press and TV coverage ensured that Ford were happy the whole thing being judged a great success. The 'Tour' carried on for a few more years but 1973 was really the last year that Grand Prix drivers were also doing sports cars F2 and saloons as well. A few weeks later XWC 713L was off to Spa where it was fitted with a set of Dunlops and entered in the 24 Hours to be driven by Nigel Clarkson and Jeremy Walton. Throughout the 24hours 713 ran faultlessly (apart from tyre problems) to finish a remarkable 13th overall.713 then returned to Ford to presumably join 712 and 714 in retirement however that was not to be. A certain Tom Walkinshaw was invited to pedal the car in the 1974 British Saloon Car Championship for Group 1 cars which for the first time was for 'showroom' production cars on racing tyres in four classes divided by cubic capacity. Now sporting the blue and white 'Shell Sport' livery and producing 175bhp Tom finished 4th overall and 1st in Class 'C'

1988 Rouse Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth Group A

Lot # 208 (Sale Order: 8 of 24)

Legendary Andy Rouse Engineering built Group A RS500 # ARE KAL 0988Continuous race development.Race ready and immaculately prepared.Consumable race spares package.Long term single ownership. Offered here is one of the two legendary Kaliber Group A Sierra Cosworths built by Andy Rouse Engineering for the 1988 British Touring Car Championship. Chassis ARE KAL 0988 was built and used in the 1988 season and driven predominately by Guy Edwards to four podium finishes. Throughout the season the Kaliber Sierras were the cars to beat and in a golden era the spectacle of these seriously powerful touring cars belching flames defined a magnificent chapter of saloon car racing. At the end of the season Andy Rouse Group A Sierras’ were very much in demand and one car went to Peter Brock and #ARE KAL 0988 was sold to Adrian Fu who raced the car at Macau and various rounds of the Asia Pacific Series. 0988 then left Asia and was entered in the 1992 James Hardie at Bathhurst for drivers Ken Matthews/Rod Jones/Mike Newton and was then displayed in the Bathurst Museum until purchased in 1993 by our vendor an accomplished Kiwi racing driver and businessman who continued to race the Sierra in the New Zealand Endurance Championship after some re-engineering by Peter Brock. Wins at Timaru International Motor Speedway and Teretonga helped him to win the Championship with co-driver Murray Cleland in 1996. After 1997 the Sierra was retired and remained uniquely within the ownership of our vendor until being shipped to the UK last month. In 2016/17 it was decided that the Sierra should be totally rebuilt and returned to its original livery with the possibility of running in Archibald’s Historic car series in NZ which it later did most successfully. In period the car was continuously developed and evolved with input from Australia’s favourite son Peter Brock and all this hard-won know-how has been incorporated into the rebuild. The specification does include the original Zytec system which has benefitted from various upgrades primarily enlarging the fuel delivery capacity. The engine is a new long-stud 205 block with only fifteen hours of running designed to run with 2.1 bar boost producing 540 bhp with much of the engineering carried by renowned tuner Ivan Tighe of Brisbane with particular attention being paid to cam profiling and reliability. Much of the suspension work was engineered by respected specialists Harrop Engineering of Brunswick in Victoria applying new manufacturing processes to the Peter Brock suspension. The Brock driveshafts which in the day were recognised as twisting less than anyone other preparers were reverse engineered. Both driveshafts are new and the complete rear end has new bearings A basic spares package is available together with the prospect of a very complete inventory to support a race effort over many seasons. This is a superbly prepared 'Group A' Sierra Cosworth that in the right hands could undoubtedly be the front-running car in the HSCC 'Supertourers' series the Grand Prix Legends Touring Car Challenge as well as numerous prestige events throughout Europe.Race-ready on the button and ready for the top step of the podium.

The Veloce version used twin Weber carburettors and hotter camshafts than the Normale to produce around 129bhp.This car chassis number AR390445 (Type 101.18 Veloce) was manufactured on 20th April 1965 and sold to Alfa Romeo Germany Frankfurt. In 1996 AR390445 was converted into a race car by Dr R Schimmer of Dusseldorf since when it has competed in races throughout Europe including Spa Zolder Zandvoort Brno Hockenheim and the Nordschleife where it took 9th overall out of 185 entrants in the Eifelklassik. The car was also taken to a win at Monza in the 2010 Coppa Intereuropa starting from the very back of the grid following problems in practice. The date expired fuel cell race seat and belts were removed and replaced with a hard to source standard fuel tank reclining seats and driver and passenger belts by the current owner whose intention was to use the car for classic tours. 1972 Ford Escort MKI

Lot # 210 (Sale Order: 10 of 24)

A great cost-effective way into Historic MotorsportTwo-litre 16v Pinto engine with a Quaife Clubmans 5-speed Type 9-gearboxBuilt in South Africa and converted to FIA spec by Colin PendleEligible for events such as 'Young Timers’ - 'HSCC' - 'Motor Racing Legends’ The Ford Escort Mk I was introduced in 1967 and was a commercial success in many parts of Western Europe particularly in the UK where it was the nation's best-selling car in the late sixties. In June 1974 less than six years after the car’s UK introduction Ford announced the completion of the two millionth Ford Escort a milestone unmatched by any Ford model outside the USA. The Escort used a brand new unitary construction body shell and came with a choice of 1098cc or 1298cc four-cylinder overhead valve engines. It also featured contemporary styling cues in tune with its time: a subtle Detroit-inspired 'Coke bottle' waistline and the 'dogbone' shaped front grille arguably the car’s most famous stylistic feature. Escorts became very successful in competition especially in rallying and they eventually went on to become one of the most successful rally cars of all time. The Ford works team was practically unbeatable in the late 1960s / early 1970s and arguably the Escort’s greatest victory was in the 1970 London to Mexico World Cup Rally being driven by Finnish legend Hannu Mikkola. This Escort MKI two-door could be a great entry into the exciting world of historic Motorsport. The engine is a Ford two-litre 16v Pinto with Wosnner forged pistons Kent cams and timing gears ARP bolts and twin 48 side-draft Dellortos. The gearbox is a Quaife Clubmans five-speed Type 9 unit with a balanced prop shaft leading to a Salisbury all steel LSD Suspension consists of a five-link rear end Bilstein front and coil over rears new adjustable TCA comp struts and a remote anti-roll bar. Slowing down is aided by Wilwood four-pot callipers drilled and grooved discs all round and an adjustable bias pedal box. It is fully race-prepared with a full cage strut brace checker-plate floors alloy fuel tank and a battery boxThe car was originally built by Robbie Jaffa who is well known in Cape Town converted to FIA spec by Colin Pendle and raced at Donington Park and Spa Francorchamps. It is really well presented as an homage to the legendary Zakspeed cars and finished in the familiar Castrol colours made famous by Ludwig Schneider and Niedzwiedz. The car is eligible for events such as 'Young Timers’ - 'HSCC' - 'Motor Racing Legends’Everyone in historic motorsport has a soft spot for the Mk 1 Escort and described by our vendor as 'ready to go’ and offered at a sensible guide price this is a very worthy proposition.

1972 Ford Escort MK1 RS1600 BDA FIA Rally Car

Lot # 213 (Sale Order: 13 of 24)

Really well prepared Mk1 RS1600 with FoMoCo (PVX) provenanceCurrent FIA/HTP file HRVI papers and the FoMoCo original build-sheets/allocationNew Wayne Mitchell 1800 BDA engine producing over 210 BHP. New ZF 5-speed dog-leg box.Freshly dated safety equipment including new seats belts and a 'Lifeline' extinguisher system Fully sorted and detailed by Escort guru Pete Slights in York. On the button It is difficult to imagine a Stage Rally in the early seventies without the Mark 1 Ford Escort. Those of us who put up with the really early morning starts and the trudge through dank woods over ankle-twisting tree stumps in order to get as close to the action as possible were often rewarded with the sight and sound of Escorts doing what they do best. You could hear them way before you saw them the cacophonous howl of a BDA at 10000 revs screaming for more cold air would echo up through the pines and then suddenly a pair of bright headlights on the outside of four seven-inch Cibie Oscars would burn a hole in the mist and then past only inches away the exhaust resonating in your chest as your internal organs vibrate in sympathy and if you were really lucky you would get showered in gravel as well. Addictive.Ford had for a number of years used active participation in motorsport as a means of getting their showroom doors swinging on a Monday morning and the new Escort was to prove no exception. Popular at club level in every discipline of the sport it was at an International level that the name 'Escort' became synonymous with winning. The Ford works team was practically unbeatable in the late 1960s /early 1970s and arguably the Escort's greatest victory was in the 1970 London to Mexico World Cup Rally being driven by Finnish legend Hannu Mikkola. This result and the ensuing acclaim prompted Ford to produce the famous Escort Mexico (1.6-litre 'Kent'-engine) road version in honour of the rally car.One step up from the Mexico the Escort 'RS1600' was developed using an engine that was essentially a detuned Formula 3 unit designated BDA (Belt Drive 'A' Series). Both the Mexico and RS1600 were built simultaneously at the Ford Advanced Vehicle Operations (AVO) facility located at the Aveley Plant in South Essex. As well as higher performance engines and sports suspension these models featured strengthened body shells making them ideal for rallying. Here we have a completely immaculate 1972 Ford Escort RS1600 that has been properly prepared for Historic Rallying. It wears an RS1600 AVO body plate and is supplied with its original V5 showing that it is an RS1600 first registered in January 1972 to the Ford Motor Company. The registration prefix is PVX which indicates that it was initially used by Ford. The majority of the PVX cars were Press or Fleet cars however we understand that the lower numbers were prepared for motorsport rallying the Mexico Challenge etc. PVX 104K is also accompanied by its current FIA/HTP file its HRVI papers and the FoMoCo original build-sheets/allocation. The car has undergone major investment to establish it as a seriously competitive historic rally car including a new Wayne Mitchell 1800 BDA engine producing over 210 BHP (Dyno charts available) driving through a 5-speed dog-leg box newly rebuilt by a ZF Specialist at a cost of £6500.It has been fully sorted and detailed by Escort gurus Pete Slights Rally Sport in York with freshly dated safety equipment including new seats belts and a 'Lifeline' extinguisher system giving some real longevity to these areas too. With a full set of spare Minilites and GP stands it's on the button and ready to go Historic Rallying right now. It's evident from the photographs that the car has been professionally prepared and it hasn't turned a wheel in anger since. As an ex-Ford/AVO RS1600 this super Escort must represent an investment opportunity just sitting there however the temptation to head to Kielder Forest may prove too much.

1984 BMW E24 635 'Group A' Touring Car

Lot # 214 (Sale Order: 14 of 24)

Superbly engineered and correctly presented Berger/ Marlboro FIA Group 'A' 635.Built by Geoff Steel Racing over winter 2015/2016 for the Peter Auto Heritage Touring Car seriesOriginal E24 shell from Italian 635. Stripped and dippedRebuilt full-race engine-310bhp 5-speed box T45 cage 100-litre fuel cell FIA safety equipmentSupplied fully homologated with FIA papers ready to race. Silverstone Auctions are delighted to offer this BMW/Marlboro 635 E24 'Group A' for sale. It's based on an original 12-valve (M30B35) engined E24 635CSi purchased from Southern Italy as a road legal car in very good condition and the conversion to a full-blown racer was entrusted to Geoff Steel Racing over the winter of 2015/16 with the brief that the new owners wanted to recreate the famous Marlboro/BMW 'Group A' Touring Car as driven by Gerhard Berger in 1985 and use it to compete in the Peter Auto Heritage Touring Car series.Whilst an Italian road car may be a strange place to begin if you want to race an Historic Touring Car there is an argument to be made that this is the best place to start. After preparation it was fitted with a T45 FIA specification full cage and the car was painted white ready to accept the decals and graphics appropriate to the correct 'Marlboro' finish. It was then built up by GSR in the normal way and fitted with a fully rebuilt 310bhp engine a rebuilt FIA Group A specification gearbox a new FIA specification 100-litre capacity fuel cell and all the appropriate safety equipment to comply with FIA requirements and the current race regs. The car currently weighs 1200kgs and is said to have passed the full Historic Technical Passport check first time and the papers issued. Geoff Steel Racing also ran the car with a number of top ten finishes in the European Group A season including an impressive 2nd at Spa in 2016 and 2nd at the Algarve Classic in 2017 standing 3rd in Group A going into the final round. This year the car was competitive at Donnington in the Motor Racing Legends Touring Car Challenge and it's worth mentioning that it is eligible for the Motor Racing Legends round at Silverstone during the Classic weekend. This classic BMW is a delightfully accurate recreation of a famous racer but is also a really well-engineered Touring Car and would undoubtedly be a contender in the right hands.

1967 Chevrolet Camaro

Lot # 216 (Sale Order: 16 of 24)

In superb overall condition and properly preparedThe 5.6-litre V8 engine has recently been rebuilt by fellow racer Simon LaneComprehensive history dating back to 1992 and its own pictorial storybookEligible for CSCC Future Classics AMOC Intermarque and many other events As the 1960s roared on so too did the introduction of a new generation of powerful big block V8 saloon cars in the United States that came to be known as 'Muscle Cars'. Ford claimed 'bragging rights' with its dramatic new Mustang destined to become one of the all-time greats whilst other 'Motor City' favourites included the Dodge Charger Pontiac GTO Plymouth Barracuda and the Chevrolet Camaro.Introduced in 1966 the Camaro was offered in 2-door form with both coupé and convertible body styles to choose from as well as a range of different engine sizes and trim and styling packages. Top of the pile at Chevrolet was the macho Z28 powered by a rumbling 302cu.in. 5-litre small-block V8 and this was their chosen contender for the battles that lay ahead...Whilst salesman in car dealerships across the States fought it out for units sold Chevrolet decided that it wanted to take the fight to Ford on the race tracks of America and prepared cars that complied with the 'Group 2' regulations drafted for the Sports Car Club of America Trans-American Series allowing cars with up to 5.7 litre engines to compete. Famous Camaro drivers included Mark Donohue ex-F1 pilot Ronny Bucknum and Jerry Thompson. It was Donohue though who took the spoils in the 1968 and '69 seasons driving a Penske-prepared Camaro with utter domination in the Trans-Am series. It wasn't long before European teams and drivers spotted the successes of their American counterparts and these cars soon appeared at race circuits across Europe. The story with this particular car started in 1992 when our vendor bought a 1967 road legal Chevrolet Camaro with the intention of building it into a race car and running in the HSCC Improved Road Sports Championship. The car later ran in the Historic American Racers Association series run by paddock favourite Bernie Chodosh where our vendor was often at the sharp end of the grid. For many years the car was enjoyed and raced before our vendor sold it and it was campaigned by other owners. Fast forward a number of years and our vendor re-discovered the car languishing in a unit and decided to buy his old car back. A full rebuild of the car ensued this time with the help of the vendor's son who was now of the age to drive and who went on to pilot this car to many successes. Sporting a 5.6-litre V8 engine which has recently been rebuilt by fellow racer Simon Lane the car runs a 4-speed manual gearbox. An ATL aluminium fuel tank resides in the boot and we suggest all potential buyers of the car satisfy themselves as to the legality and currency of all safety equipment on board including seats harnesses and fire extinguisher. Supplied with a hardback book put together by our vendor showing a pictorial history of the car along with a decent file this American Muscle-car has clearly been welcomed back into the family with lots of attention and provided years happy racing memories. A potential candidate for gaining FIA papers this car will get you on to the grid in the AMOC Intermarque series Bernies V8s and CSCC Future Classic.

1964 Ford Cortina Lotus Mk.l

Lot # 220 (Sale Order: 20 of 24)

An original A-frame car well-prepared and nicely presented.Good history and provenance. Formerly the property of the Duke of BedfordCompetition use from the early days. Prepared for the 74th MM by Henry MannRecent engine rebuild by Craig Beck Racing. All safety equipment wii need to be checked for currency The Lotus Cortina came into being because of Ford's decision to step up their motorsport involvement in the early 1960s. Their Head of UK Public Relations Walter Hayes spoke to Colin Chapman asking him to come up with a competitive saloon using the Cortina as a base that could be produced in sufficient numbers to satisfy the mandatory 'Group 2' homologation requirements and with which the Blue Oval could beat all comers. The solution was to take Ford's bullet-proof 1500 Kent engine fit it with a twin-cam cylinder head pop it into a stiffened Cortina shell sort out the suspension and brakes and paint a green stripe down the side. The cars would be built by Lotus at its plant in Cheshunt and marketed through their dealer network as the Ford Cortina Lotus. Once fully developed the Lotus Cortinas (as they quickly became known) absolutely shone in competition driven by household names including Jim Clark Jackie Stewart Graham Hill Jackie Ickx Roger Clark and many many more. This superbly presented Ford Cortina Lotus BYP 71B is an original UK right-hand drive car and was supplied new to Norman Hugh Brown of 64 Summerley London SW18 (or the Duke of Bedford as he was better known) during November 1964. It was and still is an early 'A-frame' car which is the preferred form of axle location for FIA historic racing today. The original Green Buff Log book is still present in the history file as is a copy of the Lotus Cortina Owners Club factory records. Used for road and light competition use throughout its life the Lotus was professionally prepared for modern-day historic racing in 2008 by respected Rolls-Royce and Bentley specialist Michael Hibberd on the instruction of the car's owner David Mountain of Mountune Racing Engines fame. This work included the fitting of a modern FIA roll cage racing suspension fuel system and brakes a racing seat harness fire system and the ancillary safety equipment required by the regulations. The car was prepared on the appropriate jig with great emphasis placed on accurate panel fit and a high standard of finish to the shell. If you look down the side of this car or look at the deep lustre of the paintwork you will see instantly what an exceptional standard has been achieved.Lotus Cortina racing is very close and to be competitive and remain legal it's important to have all the 'right bits’ a fact that was borne in mind when BYP was being race-prepared. All was well and the car was enjoyed in a handful of races during its time with David Mountain. The Nick Stagg engine was professionally maintained and upgraded and the car ran well when used at the Silverstone Classic in 2012.The car's current owner had it prepared for Goodwood's 74th Members Meeting in 2016 by Henry Mann of Alan Mann racing and although running well initially the engine developed a fault and the car was retired. The engine was removed by Henry Mann and sent to Lotus specialists Craig Beck Racing who identified the problem and rebuilt the engine with a replacement crankshaft bearings oil pump shells and sump baffles. This is a genuine Ford Cortina Lotus with excellent provenance and evidence of competition use from the early days which is not always true of the rest of the field. If mixing it with a dozen other Lotus Cortinas round the Grand Prix Circuit at Silverstone works for you (and it does for us) then this correctly-prepared and well-presented example may well be the answer.

Design and development of the Plus 8 were led by the larger-than-life Maurice Owen a race engineer taken on specifically for the role. The Plus 8 prototype was based on a modified version of the Plus 4 to which was added a Rover 3.5 litre V8 purchased from GM-Buick in 1967. The Plus 8 prototype was based on a modified version of the Plus 4 to which was added a Rover 3.5 litre V8 purchased from GM-Buick in 1967. The Plus 4's 4-speed manual Moss gearbox with synchromesh on 2nd 3rd and 4th was carried over and the Salisbury 7HA axle was uprated with a limited slip differential. Built along familiar Morgan lines its ladder frame chassis was equipped with independent 'sliding-pillar' front suspension a leaf-sprung rear axle and disc/drum brakes. Supported by an ash frame its swooping bodywork looked as traditional as ever but gave no clues as to the new model's extraordinary performance potential. This distinctive Plus 8 was built by the highly respected Morgan race preparers Richard Thorne Racing and was further developed by Chas Windridge and Peter Mulberry of MogSport. Having previously been successfully campaigned by both David Marriott and Stuart Anderson this well-sorted car offers an opportunity to register a seriously competitive Class B entry in the AR Morgan Challenge. The specification of this car is incredibly high and includes:- Lightened and modified to Class 'B' regs in the Morgan Aero Racing Challenge. 1968 MG C GTS Sebring homage

Lot # 223 (Sale Order: 23 of 24)

Competitive road/rally car built as a GTS homage. Dual-registered; UK V5c and French FFVE papers.Built by the highly regarded Lola chief engineer Clive Robinson Vic Young and Ric Hall 3000cc straight-six competition-spec engine with triple Weber '48’s’ developing a proven 255 bhp All-synchro Quaife gearbox with Laycock competition O/D. Quaife ATB 4.2 LSDComprehensive account of the build including photos dyno sheets engineers drawings numerous invoices. The MGC was a 2912cc straight-6 version of the MGB and was sold from 1967 with production continuing through to August 1969. It had been intended as a replacement for the Austin Healey 3000 that was now showing its age. The body shell needed considerable revision from its predecessor particularly around the engine bay and floor pan but externally the only differences were the distinctive bonnet bulge to accommodate the relocated radiator and a teardrop for carburettor clearance. The MGC GTS Sebring was however a different 'beastie' entirely and is still regarded as one of the most desirable creations to come out of the BMC Competitions Department in the 1960s.In the automotive industry it's important for new models to make strong first impressions and BMC sought to promote their new MGC model through endurance road racing. Specifically the BMC Competitions Department set its sights on the annual twelve-hour endurance race at Sebring in Florida believing that a lightweight 'C would have a power advantage over the competition in its class. Work on designing the lightweight Cs began in 1966. Six body shells were built with the centre structure built from steel similarly to the road-going version while the exterior panels such as the roof panel doors and the instantly recognisable bubble-arched wings were formed in aluminium.Ultimately only two lightweight versions of the MGC GT were assembled by BMC at Abingdon. These 'Works' cars ran in the 1967 Targa Florio and in 1968 the MGC GTS as it was now known raced at Sebring and the 84-hour-long Marathon de la Route at the Nürburgring. Their final Works-supported outings were at Sebring in 1969 when the MGC competition project was cancelled.'THN 777F’ was first registered in May 1968 and remained a standard MGC GT road car until the early 90s when the current owner embarked upon a mission to create something special. He wanted to convert his CGT into a road rally/sprint car that would remain usable and legal on the road and soon became excited by the prospect of creating an homage to the.'Works' GTS of 1968. The idea quickly became a reality and the build would be entrusted to no less than the highly regarded Lola chief engineer Clive Robinson. Within the 'bible’ that accompanies the car you will find names such as Rick Hall who engineered the braking system and Vic Young who developed a slightly de-tuned version of the works cars competition engine. The initial intention of modifying the MGC suddenly became a project and a new Brown and Gammons 'GTS' bodyshell was ordered. Clive Robinson's brief was to put together a car that was as true to the factory Sebring cars as possible but that was also capable of being taxed and tested. The level of success and the quality of the engineering are immediately evident from looking at the photographs. The specification includes 3000cc straight-six competition-spec engine with triple Weber '48’s’ developing a proven 255 bhp all-synchro Quaife gearbox with Laycock competition overdrive delivering power through a Quaife ATB 4.2 LSD. Competition radiator Tony Law manifolds side-exit exhaust Works-type headlamp cowls safety cage Corbeau bucket seats and Luke full harnesses plumbed in fire extinguisher alloy fuel tank with 4’’ Le Mans filler and uprated works-type suspension with a Panhard rod.The result is a car that is suitable for fast road use or competition. On road test the MG performed without fault demonstrating surprisingly good road manners however in the correct environment could deliver what is required from a competition derived sports car. Accompanying this fabulous MG is a comprehensive account of the build including photos dyno sheets engineers drawings numerous receipts and invoices. The car is dual-registered with current UK V5c and French FFVE papers.

1979 Ford Capri FIA Group 1

Lot # 224 (Sale Order: 24 of 24)

This Capri started life in 1979 as a V6 3.0S and was purchased by our vendor in 2001, prior to building it as a race car in 2003. It was first raced in 2004 and during that first season, he soon realised that the bodyshell was a little less stiff than it could have been so the decision was taken to re-shell and rebuild the car ready for the 2005 season. It was finished in a smart White, Red and Blue colour scheme and presented with those distinctive 'Esso' graphics that were to become so recognisable over the coming years. Between 2005 and 2011, the 'Esso' car made over 100 starts in Group One-Pre-83 events including Julius Thurgood's popular 70's “Groove Baby” series and the Classic Touring Car Race Club Group 1 Touring Car Championship. In 2006, after a full season's racing at nearly every U.K. circuit, the car won its class and finished joint second overall in the championship accumulating some 120 points against another 10-12 hard fighting regulars in its class. This well-prepared racing saloon has served our vendor well, battling hard for many years with numerous wins and podium finishes right up to and including 2015 when it won its class in CTCRC Pre-83 and had its first taste of the infamous Goodwood Members Meeting where it started 8th/30 in the qualifying race and 4th/28 in the main one-hour duel. Since then, this well-known Capri has been invited back to Goodwood each year to compete with the best of Europe's 70s/80's Group One Touring Cars and for the last two years our vendor has co-driven with the very talented Emanuele Pirro and finished both times. In 2017, the car was running in fourth place at one point with Emanuele at the wheel and eventually finished 14th with a fastest lap of 1.31.6. In the 2018 two-driver race, there were problems due to the snowy conditions on Saturday, but the car still managed to finish mid-field. In Sunday's race, with our vendor at the wheel for the reverse grid, the Capri started in 5th place, went straight up to 2nd by the end of the first lap, only to be met by the safety car. There is some excellent footage on YouTube 'Goodwood 76MM- Crazy Capri Battle' The car is currently fitted with a 260bhp JW Developments engine which was recently been tuned and set up at Tim Adams Dyno, a Group-one gearbox with Hewland internals, an Atlas axle with 3.44 LSD, Leda two-way front and, newly developed for this year, two-way rear shocks. This remarkably successful little Capri racer has its FIA homologation papers (FIA/MSA Historic Technical Passport. Period: 1-1977-1981, FIA Class: CT35 GBR) and is ready for any UK or European event where it will almost certainly be very competitive in the right hands.
