Piaggio Vespa PX 125

Lot # 101 (Sale Order: 1 of 191)

The Vespa has evolved from a single model motor scooter manufactured in 1946 by Piaggio & Co. of Pontedera, Italy. Designed by Renzo Spolti and Vittorio Casini and known as the MP5 (Moto Piaggio no.5). From its inception the Vespa scooter has been known for its painted, pressed steel unibody, which combines a complete cowling for the engine, a flat floorboard and a prominent front fairing. Upon seeing this new design for the first time, Enrico Piaggio exclaimed ‘Sembra una Vespa!’ (it resembles a wasp). The new scooter had been named. This iconic design has featured in displays at the Guggenheim in New York and the Pompidou centre in Paris. This scooter evokes the heady, sharp suited, days of the 60’s Mod era. This scooter has been wrapped to give a chrome effect and fitted with the mirrors and flag detailing of a classic Brighton cruiser. We are informed by the vendor that this Vespa featured in Episode Two of the first series of the Simon Callow television drama, The Rebel. We are advised by the vendor that this scooter is listed as a category C insurance loss. There is no better way to take a trip down memory lane than on this modern version of a motoring and design icon.]]

Triumph Bonneville Silver Jubilee Edition

Lot # 102 (Sale Order: 2 of 191)

The early 650cc T120 Bonneville, often known as the 'duplex frame' model, was replaced in the early 1970s by the T140 Bonneville, it was the same basic machine but with a 750cc engine. Refined from the later 'oil in frame' version of the T120, the first few T140s, designated T140V, featured a larger capacity engine of 724cc, a five speed gearbox option and indicators, but still retained the drum brakes and kick-start. Shortly after, the engine was further bored out to 744cc and front disc brakes were fitted using single discs until 1982. In 1975, along with engine modifications, the gearchange lever was moved from right to left to comply with a new regulations mandated for the American market, and a rear disc brake were fitted. From 1980 several T140 models followed featuring various modifications and refinements, including electric starting, until production ceased with the closure of the Meriden works in 1983. The standard 1977 Triumph Bonneville T140 then remained relatively unchanged from prior years. The only real changes were made to the Jubilee and they were purely cosmetic. The outer engine covers (primary, timing & gearbox covers) were chromed. A special silver over blue with red pinstripe paint scheme was specific to the 1977 Silver Jubilee. The seat was even finish in Union flag colours, with its blue vinyl and red piping. This charming matching numbers Bonneville Silver Jubilee edition is one of the limited U.K run of 1000 bikes produced in 1977. The bike presents well and is submitted to auction with a V5C registration certificate. We have been informed by the vendor that the bike runs smoothly. This Meriden beauty is a rare opportunity to acquire a delightful machine in good order.  ]]

Suzuki AP50

Lot # 103 (Sale Order: 3 of 191)

The Suzuki design team took a while to develop the A50P in to the form that we know it best, both the Yamaha FS1 and Honda SS50 series were getting long in the tooth having been in the showrooms since 1972 and were very well established before the pedal equipped Suzuki ever took to the streets. The basic 50cc version of the Suzuki disc valve machine, like the Honda and Yamaha, had been around since the late sixties, but it was only with the introduction of the pedal equipped version that the learner riders of the UK could legally get a hold on one. When it did arrive the impact upon the teenage populace was major to say the least, the Suzuki looked bigger and felt far more solidly built than anything else around at the time. It was brisk with top speeds genuinely in the half a century mark. This Suzuki looks well in red and is described by the vendor as being in mint condition. As his first bike was an AP50, this purchase represented a trip down memory lane for our Vendor. First registered in April 1976 this good condition starter bike is offered to auction with a V5C registration certificate.]]

Triumph Bonneville 750 T140

Lot # 104 (Sale Order: 4 of 191)

There are few classic motorcycles that are more stylish, better known or more enjoyable to ride than a Triumph Bonneville. While the late 60’s Bonnies now come with very large price tags attached, the later T140 machines still remain relatively affordable for the time being. This Triumph Bonneville is in the process of being registered by the vendor, a process we hope will be completed by the date of the auction. This is a matching numbers motorcycle and showing only 11,200 miles on the odometer, although we have no paperwork to confirm whether this is correct. These stylish machines from the 70s are highly sought after and this 750 twin is expected to create interest.]]

Tri-B.S.A 500 (circa 1954)

Lot # 105 (Sale Order: 5 of 191)

The Tribsa, or Tri-B.S.A was a custom built cafe racer or off road motorcycle of the 1960s and 1970s. Its name was an elision of ‘Triumph’ and ‘BSA’ and the purpose was to combine the best elements of each marque to give a superior bike to either. A Tribsa involved a Triumph parallel twin engine installed in BSA motorcycle frame. Although both the BSA A65 and the Triumph twin engines were overhead valve units, only the Triumph had twin camshafts which facilitated tuning for greater power output. The BSA frame was a duplex-cradle design which was considered stiffer and stronger than the Triumph's single downtube item hence the best of both and Tribsa was built experimentally at Meriden by Triumph in 1973 using surplus BSA A65 frames which led to a ‘factory Tribsa’ which was to use the BSA A65 frames. Not many of these hybrids were produced and factory records are vague. This Tribsa has been estimated as a 1954 built motorcycle, BSA records show the frame was manufactured from 1954-1959 and Triumph records show the engine was manufactured between 1953 and 1954. The motorcycle is described as being in good original condition, although she will require tuning due to lack of use. The vendor seems to think the bike was raced in the 1957 Isle of Man TT although has no supporting evidence to confirm this. These café racers are handsome machines and this interesting example is supplied with a V5C registration document.]]

Triumph Daytona Rickman Metisse

Lot # 106 (Sale Order: 6 of 191)

In motorcycling terms the name Metisse was born in 1959 when scrambling brothers Derek and Don Rickman built and successfully raced a machine made up of a BSA frame and gearbox, a Triumph 500cc engine and Norton forks. This was to be the beginning of a line of successful off-road racers, road racers and street bikes. Built on a combination of passion for motorcycles and innovative engineering, the machines from the small factory in New Milton, Hampshire found their way to winners circles all over the world. In 1966 the film star Steve McQueen bought a Triumph engine Metisse to compete in desert races in the U.S.A and described it as ‘the best handling bike I’ve ever owned’. This Steve McQueen desert racer is based on the Metisse Mk. III that has been the class-winning off road motorcycle since the 1960’s. She presents well in sumptuous shade of dark green. Powered by a 650cc Triumph engine, this attractive classic would surely look good in any collection.]]

Harley-Davidson ‘Iron head’

Lot # 107 (Sale Order: 7 of 191)

The Ironhead was a Harley-Davidson motorcycle engine, so named because of the composition of the cylinder heads which were made of iron instead of aluminium. The engine is a two-cylinder, two valves per cylinder, pushrod V-twin and it was produced from 1957 until 1985 until replaced by the Evolution engine in 1986. The Ironhead name was applied to the Harley-Davidson Sportster motorcycles that used this engine. This 1000cc Harley-Davidson is an impressive looking motorcycle. It is easy to see why the brand has such a loyal following. This beauty from Wisconsin was registered on 1st August 1978 and presents well in black with a purple tank design. Offered to auction with a V5C registration document and we are informed by the vendor that the bike will be supplied with a current MoT test certificate.]]

Greeves TS Trials 250

Lot # 108 (Sale Order: 8 of 191)

The company founded by Bert Greeves ,MBE soon after WW2 was the same Invacar company that won a major contract to provide motorised, three-wheeled, invalid carriage vehicles to the UK Government Ministry of Pensions and National Insurance. The invalid carriages sold well and established a firm foundation for the factory, based in Essex. The factory possessed its own foundry and very soon, became expert in the new technology of fibreglass moulding. As a keen trials rider, Bert Greeves soon indulged his interest and started to build motorcycles for trials and scrambles and in 1954, a roadster joined the range. Using Villiers or British Anzani engines and suspension based on the invalid cars' rubber units, the frames illustrated another Greeves innovation. In place of the normal tubular front section and steering head was a single enormously strong aluminium alloy H-section beam. This Greeves TS Trials bike presents in very good condition after being restored although she does require a little recommissioning due to lack of use. Supplied with an official dating certificate and a V5C registration document, this 250cc motorcycle looks to be attractively estimated given the condition and rarity of this motorcycle.]]

Kawasaki GPZ 900 R

Lot # 109 (Sale Order: 9 of 191)

The Kawasaki GPZ 900 R was manufactured from 1984 to 2003. The GPZ 900 R was a revolutionary design that became the immediate predecessor of the modern day sport bike. Developed in secret over six years, it was the world's first 16-valve liquid-cooled inline four-cylinder motorcycle engine and was years ahead of rival manufacturers' efforts. The 908 cc engine delivered 115 bhp allowing the bike to reach speeds of 151 mph, making it the first stock road bike to exceed 150 mph. The narrow, compact engine was mounted lower in the frame, allowing it to take Japanese superbike performance to a new level. Only three months after being unveiled to the press in December 1983, dealers entered three works GPZ 900 R bikes in the Isle of Man Production TT finishing in first and second place. This 1986 example presents in good order and we are advised by the vendor that she rides with no known faults. Supplied with a V5C registration document and an MoT test certificate valid until 20th February 2019 with no advisories together with a collection of recent invoices. 1980’s motorcycles are becoming highly collectable and this iconic bike is no exception with a style and performance that was considered exceptional at the time so much so that a GPZ 900 R was featured in the ‘Top Gun’ movie and Lou Reed also owned one which he mentioned in several of his songs. ]]

Matchless G12 (650cc)

Lot # 110 (Sale Order: 10 of 191)

The Matchless G12 was produced by Associated Motorcycles at the former Matchless works in Plumstead, London. Developed in 1958 specifically to capture the potentially lucrative US market, it was one of the last motorcycles made under the Matchless name. It was also produced as the AJS Model 31 by the same company. Designer Phil Walker knew that it had to be a 650cc but wanted to use as many parts from the Model 11 as possible. The cylinders could not be bored out further so the stroke was lengthened from 72.8 to 79.3mm resulting in a capacity of 646cc. This meant developing a new crankshaft and primary chaincase which also provided the opportunity to add a Lucas alternator.  This Matchless was restored a few years ago and still presents in nice order today. We are advised by the vendor that she runs well and is a good starter. These handsome bikes with their semi-chromed fuel tanks are a testament to a once thriving British motorcycle industry. Supplied with a V5C registration document.]]

Royal Enfield Crusader Sports

Royal Enfield was the brand name under which The Enfield Cycle Company Limited of Redditch, Worcestershire, sold motorcycles, bicycles, lawnmowers and stationary engines which they had manufactured. Enfield Cycle Company also used the brand name Enfield without Royal. The first Royal Enfield motorcycle was built in 1901. The Enfield Cycle Company is responsible for the design and original production of the Royal Enfield Bullet, the longest living motorcycle design in history. The 250cc class was important in the UK as it was the largest engine which a learner could ride without passing a test. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, Royal Enfield produced a number of 250cc machines, including a racer, a Scrambler with the biggest-seller being the Crusader, a 248cc pushrod overhead valve single producing 18bhp. Triumph Thunderbird GT

Lot # 112 (Sale Order: 12 of 191)

The 6T Thunderbird was launched publicly at Montlhéry near Paris in 1949 where three standard-production bikes were ridden around a circuit by a team of riders who between them averaged a speed of 92mph over a distance of 500 miles. All three machines were ridden to the circuit and back to the Meriden factory. Triumph obtained further lasting publicity with Marlon Brando's 1953 motion picture ‘The Wild One’, in which he rode a 1950 6T Thunderbird. In the book ‘Triumph Motorcycles in America’, there is a letter reproduced from Triumph's importers to the producers objecting to the use of their machine in this film about rowdy motorcycle gangs. From 1960, the Thunderbird acquired Turner's rear fairing nicknamed the 'bathtub' on account of its shape; a feature which was quickly dropped in the USA market but remained in ever-abbreviated forms for the home market before disappearing altogether for the final year of production, 1966. Before then in 1963, the Thunderbird, along with Triumph's other 650cc models, was given the Turner-designed unit engine. Throughout this time, however, the Thunderbird retained its distinctive nacelle. This handsome motorcycle, with the smaller rear mudguard, is a matching numbers example and appears to be pretty original. She is supplied with a V5C registration document and a current MoT test certificate valid until 14th November 2018.]]

Fiat Topolino

Lot # 113 (Sale Order: 13 of 191)

If they dished out Oscars for cuteness, the adorable Topolino would surely be head of the queue. A masterpiece of minimalist engineering, it was the brainchild of Fiat boss Senator Giovanni Agnelli who, in 1934, envisaged a small mass produced ‘people’s car’ capable of carrying two people in comfort with 50kg (110 lbs) of luggage. The task was entrusted to 29 year old Dante Giacosa, an ace engineer who had cut his teeth in Fiat’s aeronautical department and was now a fast rising star of the car division (by 1946 he was director of engineering for the whole company). Launched in 1936, the resulting Fiat 500 (quickly dubbed the ‘Topolino’ or ‘Little Mouse’) was an instant classic, bristling with space saving ingenuity and engineering subtlety. The coachwork was largely the work of chief stylist, Rudolfo Schaffer, and not only looked gorgeous but also endowed the car with great strength when bolted to Giacosa’s chassis. It was powered by a 569cc four cylinder, side valve, water-cooled engine mounted ahead of the front axle, with the radiator located behind the engine where it doubled as the interior heater. Although it developed a modest 13bhp, it could still reach 55mph and cover 50 miles on a single gallon of petrol. Transmission was via a four speed gearbox, with independent front suspension, 12 volt electrics and Lockheed hydraulic brakes. Best of all was the roll-top canvas roof which turned it into almost a full convertible.  This hugely desirable example is presented in deep purple over black with a dark olive interior and is left hand drive. It also benefits from the delightful roll-top sunroof which is essential in the Summer. A great little crowd pleaser which is practical and fun in town or in the country.]]

Vespa 400 Luxe

Lot # 114 (Sale Order: 14 of 191)

The Vespa 400 is a rear engined microcar, produced by ACMA in Fourchambault, France, from 1957 to 1961 to the designs of the Italian Piaggio company. Three different versions were sold, the Luxe, Tourisme and GT. The car made its high profile public debut on 26th September 1957 at a press presentation staged in Monaco. The 400 was a two seater car with room behind the seats to accommodate luggage or two small children on an optional cushion. The front seats were simple tubular metal frames with cloth upholstery on elastic 'springs' and between the seats were the handbrake, starter and choke. The gear change was centrally floor mounted. The rear hinged doors were coated on the inside with only a thin plastic lining attached to the metal door panel skin allowing valuable extra internal space. The cabriolet fabric roof could be rolled back from the windscreen header rail to the top of the rear engine cover leaving conventional metal sides above the doors. The 12 volt battery was located at the front of the car, behind the dummy front grille, on a shelf that could be slid out. The spare wheel was stowed in a well under the passenger seat. Vespa is known around the world for its scooters, but few people may know it produced one economy car. The company’s president felt that FIAT’s prominence in Italy should not be challenged, so the Vespa 400 was produced in France. This wonderful little car is presented in great condition having been restored over a two year period between 2015 and 2017, after it was found abandoned in a barn in Liguria in Italy. Every effort was made to source the missing parts and restore it to as much its original condition as possible. The car comes with a new engine, clutch, interior, brakes and tyres, it also comes with the original French documentation. This is a rare car and to find one restored to this level is a delight. Surely this will turn heads wherever it is driven due to its cute desirability.]]

Mercedes-Benz CL 500

Lot # 115 (Sale Order: 15 of 191)

The name CL stands for the German ‘Coupé Leicht’ or Coupé Light. The CL-Class is based on the S-Class full size luxury car known at first as the SEC and later S coupé. It was spun off into its own, current name in 1996. The CL continued to follow the same development cycle as the S, although riding on a shorter wheelbase and sharing the same engines albeit with less choice as only the higher output power trains were offered. The second generation CL or the W215 chassis coupé of 2000–2006 were offered as the V8 powered CL500, the supercharged V8 powered CL55 AMG, the V12 powered CL600 and the limited production 5.5 litre V12 Bi-Turbo. CL coupés come equipped with the very latest in Mercedes-Benz technology and, along with the S-Class saloons, the CL coupés received all new technological features. This red CL500 with beige leather interior has been well cared for. The car is offered with a good Mercedes-Benz and specialist service history and an MoT test certificate valid until April 2019. With just two former owners, this luxury Mercedes gives S-Class luxury with coupé looks and pillar-less lines. Powered by a 5.0 litre V8 and offered at no reserve, this is a lot of car for very little investment and a sure future favourite.]]

Mini Cooper LE

Lot # 116 (Sale Order: 16 of 191)

Produced by Rover in 1996 to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the first iconic Mini Cooper in 1961, the Mini Cooper LE was painted in Almond Green or red with white roof, a full Porcelain Green leather interior and air conditioning. The cars were powered by the reliable 1.3 single-point fuel injected engine. This car is completely original other than an aftermarket exhaust and it has covered less than 59,000 miles. Totally rust-free, we are told the car has been exceptionally well cared for with everything running as it should. The original rare aluminium roof rack is included in the sale. Imported back into the UK from Japan in 2008, the car has the original polished walnut dash. This example lived in Japan for the first 12 years of its life where climatic conditions and Japanese culture were both very good to the car. A dry temperate climate (without the need for road salt) makes for great body condition. The car was also subject to the strict Japanese Shaken government road-tests which get stricter as the car gets older. Upon its return from Japan, the car was dry stored within a collection of Minis in Ireland by the same owner over the last ten years. During this time, the car was used regularly but only limited miles were driven.  The car comes supplied with a year’s MOT test certificate with no advisories.]]

Jaguar XJS Convertible

Lot # 117 (Sale Order: 17 of 191)

The Jaguar XJS offers its owners a slice of, well deserved, motoring history defying critics, as it did, to become one of the world's most successful GT cars. From the introduction of the HE engine in 1982, the 3.6 AJ6 engine in 1984 which expanded to four litres in 1989, the cabriolet in 1985, the full convertible in 1988 and the facelift model in 1993 to the final commemorative model in 1995. The XJS was continuously developed during its 20 year production life. It is, though, the facelift model presented here today offering a more modern look and feel. Better performance from the new 16", five-spoke alloys and an improved interior with the biggest change being the long awaited addition of proper rear seats. In June the following year, Jaguar introduced a new engine, the AJ16. An evolution of the proven AJ6 engine, it featured a new cylinder head, increased compression, sequential fuel injection and numerous other changes to provide better fuel economy, driveability, refinement and performance. This example is presented in British Racing Green with beige leather interior and a black electrically operated hood. Its smooth six cylinder engine is a joy, especially on those long journeys or indeed when driving swiftly through the country roads of Britain or on the Continent. The previous owner had a small accident damaging the passenger door and causing very slight damage to the sill. At this time, in 2008, the insurance company assessed the damage and deemed it a Category D due to Jaguar’s values being down at that time. The damage was subsequently repaired and inspected by the Jaguar Owners Club who passed it as sufficient. The present owner has enjoyed use of the car for a number of years, sadly due to health issues he has chosen to sell the car. The car comes with a large history file, including documents confirming the damage and the letter from the Jaguar Owners Club as mentioned. This is a wonderful car with stunning styling and we are informed by the vendor it is still a joy to drive.]]

Ford Escort RS Turbo S2

Lot # 118 (Sale Order: 18 of 191)

The 'Series 2' Escort RS Turbo (produced between 1986-1990) was in many ways a much better car than the Series I. New features were adopted for the Series 2 including utilising the 1600cc, fuel-injected CVH engine from the Series 1 Turbo but now fitted with the Garret T3 turbo (water-cooled, unlike the S1), revised engine management settings, lower overall gearing, an improved gearbox and limited-slip differential, a larger clutch, improved KE Jetronic unit, and an intercooler.  Suspension and chassis changes included stiffer front and rear springs, uprated anti-roll bars, mechanical ABS and larger brakes. The Series 2 car produced an impressive 132bhp at 5750 rpm, with maximum torque of 133 lb/ft at 2750 rpm, giving it serious performance with a top speed of 125 mph and a 0-60mph time of 8.3 seconds. Although on paper, these figures were a tad down on the Series 1, the new car was considerably easier to drive quickly and, effectively, was a faster car. This rare grey, left hand drive car was imported in August 1998. The car shows only 33,000 miles on the odometer and judging by the condition of the car it looks to be true, (whilst not provable through a paper trail). The car’s interior is clean and in good condition as is the paintwork and mechanicals. The car is no different underneath being very well presented and adding to the likelihood that it is indeed a 33,000 miles car and has recently benefitted from a service which included the cambelt. The vendor describes the car as being in excellent condition and that it runs and drives as new. With so many of these cars suffering from rust and modifications, it is becoming increasingly hard to find an original, unrestored, unmolested and solid example, making this car all the more attractive. With similar right hand drive cars selling for two to three times the guide price this Fast Ford legend surely represents incredible value. The car is supplied with V5C registration document and MoT test certificate that expires in March 2019.  ]]

Mercedes-Benz E220 Coupé

Lot # 120 (Sale Order: 20 of 191)

Mercedes-Benz introduced the 'E-Class' to the market in 1985. Much of the W124's engineering and many of its features were advanced automotive technology incorporating innovations that have been adopted throughout the industry. It had one of the lowest drag coefficients of any vehicle at the time, due to its aerodynamic body, which included plastic moulding for the undercarriage to streamline airflow beneath the car, reducing fuel consumption and wind noise. It had a single windscreen wiper that had an eccentric mechanism at its base, extending the wiper's reach to the top corners of the windscreen. The coupés and convertibles had optional rear headrests that would fold down remotely to improve rearward visibility when required. This Mercedes-Benz coupé was supplied in April 1996. The car has an impressive service and MoT history and, as such, presents in good order throughout. We are advised by the vendor that the car drives well with no known faults. This Mercedes-Benz is supplied with a V5C registration document and a valid MoT certificate. These W124 examples are exceedingly well built and offer reliable everyday motoring.]]

1988 Nissan President Sovereign V8 H250

Lot # 120a (Sale Order: 21 of 191)

The Nissan President was a luxury limousine produced by Nissan from 1965 to 2010. The car was mainly used by corporate executives and government officials. It was a luxury saloon specifically aimed at the Japanese market, where its main competitor was the Toyota Century. The President was the flagship limousine, and was sold at Nissan Motor store dealerships. Exports began to a few countries including Singapore and Hong Kong, though sales were limited. A North American version (called the Infiniti Q45) was produced from 1990 to 1996 and subsequently 2001 to 2006. The President was replaced by the Nissan Fuga in August 2010. When the President was introduced in 1965, it wore the ‘Nissan’ badge unlike other Nissan products at the time which were labelled Datsun. A variety of different trim levels were offered, which included a base 3.0 litre straight-six and a number of interior options. The one to have was the top-of-the-line Nissan President Sovereign V8. This meant a 4.4 litre overhead valve V8 lived under the hood and put 200 horsepower to the ground through a three-speed automatic transmission. This Nissan is extremely well appointed and it is easy to see why these flagship Nissans were used by government ministers and VIP’s. This example is thought to have been used by the Japanese ambassador in Melbourne. The button cushioned seats are electrically operated even in the rear and ample legroom is available. The 4400cc V8 engine is extremely smooth in operation and responsive in action although it should be stated this car is built for a comfortable and not a sporty ride. This luxury Nissan needs to be viewed to be fully appreciated.

Sunbeam Alpine Series II

Lot # 121 (Sale Order: 22 of 191)

The Sunbeam Alpine is a sporty two-seat open car launched in 1953, it was the first vehicle from Sunbeam-Talbot Limited to bear the Sunbeam name since the 1935 takeover of Sunbeam and Talbot by the Rootes Group. Ken Howes and Jeff Crompton were tasked with doing a complete redesign of the Alpine in 1956 to produce a dedicated sports car aimed principally at the US market. Ken Howes contributed some 80% of the overall design work and, throughout its production cycle, the Alpine was manufactured in four subsequent revisions through to 1968. Production stopped shortly after the Chrysler takeover of the Rootes Group. The Series II of 1960 featured an enlarged 1,592cc engine producing 80 bhp and revised rear suspension. A Series II with hardtop and overdrive was tested by The Motor magazine in 1960, they recorded a top speed of 98.6 mph, acceleration from 0–60 mph in 13.6 seconds and a fuel consumption of 31.0 miles per imperial gallon. First registered on 9th February 1961, this restored Sunbeam is offered with splendid red coachwork. By the owners own admission this car has been restored at a cost above and beyond the value of the car, thus presents well. The history file accompanying the car contains invoices pertaining to the restoration, these are coupled with some old MoT test certificates and old invoices. Offered with the factory hardtop and presented in good condition, we believe this car would represent fabulous value and would be perfect for enjoying weekend drives through the British countryside.  ]]

Land Rover Defender 90 - ‘The Man from U.N.C.L.E.’

Lot # 122 (Sale Order: 23 of 191)

In a modern take on the classic television serial in the 1960s, CIA agent Solo and KGB agent Kuryakin are forced to put aside longstanding hostilities and team up on a joint mission to stop a mysterious international criminal organisation that is bent on destabilising the fragile balance of power through the proliferation of nuclear weapons and technology. The duo's only lead is the daughter of a vanished German scientist who is the key to infiltrating the criminal organization, and they must race against time to find him and prevent a worldwide catastrophe. The action sequences are superb and this Guy Ritchie directed action extravaganza represents, as you would expect, a relentless parade of cars, helicopters, motorbikes and planes in superbly choreographed stunts. One such vehicle is the petrol V8 powered Land Rover Defender 90 presented here. During the film, it is disguised with an earlier Series III front but the underpinnings are definitely 1991. It also benefits from a full exterior roll cage and 'Old Man Emu Suspension', especially designed in Australia for superior performance across all terrain. We are informed that this ex-MoD Land Rover was initially acquired by Warner Brothers in 2012 and modified by Alex King, the picture vehicle coordinator of Dena Films, for a number of sequences in the 2015 film, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Presented in great condition with an MoT test certificate valid until January 2019, this is, quite simply, great fun and a fabulous collector’s car for fans of the film or indeed Land Rovers.]]
In a modern take on the classic television serial in the 1960s, CIA agent Solo and KGB agent Kuryakin are forced to put aside longstanding hostilities and team up on a jo...moreint mission to stop a mysterious international criminal organisation that is bent on destabilising the fragile balance of power through the proliferation of nuclear weapons and technology. Ford Escort XR3i

Lot # 123 (Sale Order: 24 of 191)

The Ford Escort is a small family car that was manufactured from 1968 to 2004 and was produced in six different model derivatives. The fourth version of the Ford Escort was launched in March 1986, with only a small number of changes over its predecessor. Optional new features included a mechanical anti?lock braking system (standard on RS Turbo models), a fuel computer on fuel-injected models, and a heated windscreen. These changes were welcome at a time when the Escort was faced with a host of new competitors; General Motors had brought out a new version of the Vauxhall Astra 18 months earlier, shortly after Volkswagen had introduced the Mk. II Golf. As well as an all new interior, a new derivative of the CVH engine was introduced, as well as numerous suspension tweaks to address the long standing criticisms of the Escort's handling and ride quality. In 1988 Ford developed an electronic fuel injection system, this was further enhanced with the introduction of the EFI model in the last year of production, of which this example is one such model.Presented in Radiant Red with Shadow cloth trim, this time warp iconic XR3i has been owned by our vendor since 1992. We are informed the car is completely standard with all original factory panels, just as it was when it rolled off the production line, upon inspection this is hard to doubt. The information about the build can all be found on the original order sheet contained within the history file. Originally supplied to Sandcliffe Garage of Nottingham, the car was sold on 23rd June 1990 to a Mr Cottingham in Ilkeston, Derby. This is the village where the car has remained to this day with our seller. Our vendor purchased the car, locally, from Mr Cottingham with just 9,550 miles on the clock. He used the car until in 1998, when it was taken off the road and placed into professional storage with the mileage at 30,724, according to the MoT test certificate. Except for being taken for its annual MoT tests, this XR3i has remained in storage ever since. Presented in absolutely fabulous condition throughout, this car is accompanied by the radio code and key codes in the original book pack, a fully stamped service booklet up until the car was taken off the road, previous MoT test certificates and invoices. We think this example is amongst the very best that can be found and should prove very popular with Ford enthusiasts and collectors, viewing is strongly recommended.]]

Austin 1300 GT Mk. III

Lot # 124 (Sale Order: 25 of 191)

In 1962, a quite revolutionary new saloon was launched by BMC at the same time as the brand new MGB. Initially wearing the Morris badge, ADO16 was hot from the drawing boards of Alec Issigonis and Pininfarina. Offered in many guises by Innocenti, Morris, Riley, Wolseley, Vanden Plas and Austin, the AD016 was truly universal in its appeal. In line with BMC's policy at the time, Austin-badged versions of the ADO16 were built at Longbridge, whilst Morris and MG versions were assembled at Cowley. However, some were also built in Spain by Authi, in Italy by Innocenti and at the company's own plant in Belgium. At the London Motor Show in October 1969 the manufacturers introduced the Austin / Morris 1300 GT, featuring the same 1275cc twin carburetter engine as that installed in the MG 1300, but with a black full width grill, a black vinyl roof and a thick black metal strip along the swage line. This was BMC's answer to the Ford Escort GT and its Vauxhall counterpart. Ride height on the Austin / Morris 1300 GT was fractionally lowered through the reduction of the Hydrolastic fluid pressure from 225 to 205 psi. This stunning 1300GT has enjoyed many years of careful ownership including an older restoration; however it also benefits from a recent fully rebuilt engine and thus presents as a fabulous example in Glacier white paintwork with navy blue trim. The car is supplied with the Heritage Certificate confirming it was built on 22nd March 1971 and delivered to Stringer Motors Limited, Brighton on 24th March 1971. This original UK supplied example of the desirable 1300 GT is also accompanied by invoices and an MoT test certificate valid until November 2018 together with a user handbook. A desirable model in lovely condition throughout offered at no reserve.  ]]
