In the Peterson sword book it is identified as the #11. The ox bone handle handle has no chips or cracks. The knight's head pummel is secure but turns and doesn't tighten. Crossguard has some very old newspaper jammed under where it to keep the it from tight in scabbard. Most of these were German made and appears unmarked. The blade shows heavy wear and both edges are very sharp. Overall 28.75" with 22" blade.

Sword is of very high quality. Sword is tight, the gild finish is bright, with grips and wire being perfect. Blade is bright and shows age as well as some discoloration. The ornate scabbard has rust in corners and a peppering of rust on the chrome. The most interesting part of the sword is the back story of Fred Muttera. This is from the Davenport Iowa history Page online. His life included success, crime, and anti-Ku Klux Klan family death. From Springfield, IL to Davenport, to Corpus Christi, Texas. It was a bitter-sweet life. This makes the sword that much more interesting.

WWII Japanese Officer Shingunto Samurai Sword-NLF Lot #2263 (Sale Order 338 of 605) This came from the vet's family and is reported to be captured on Okinawa. The late 1944 Shingunto sword is sometimes called a Navy landing forces sword. The sword has 8 Kanji characters on one side of tang that have been partly machine worn away. They are still visible but hard to read. On the other side is 2 large characters. Both sides have painted characters. It is our opinion that this was an arsenal rework taken off of a previous battlefield and reissued. It has a solid iron tsuba with two thin seppas and a thicker rimmed oval seppa. The handle wrap is tight. Blade has much wear and battle dings to blade edge and also has rust spots and discoloration throughout. The blade is 28".12 and overall is 39.5". This sword has such a "battle use" feel to it.

WWII Late War Japanese Army Officer Samurai Sword Lot #2264 (Sale Order 340 of 605) This sword is from the vet's family and is reported to be captured on Okinawa. It is a very interesting late war sword. The blade is dull at base near habaki and shows much wear and dings to blade edge from combat use. The combat scabbard is leather covered wood and is in very rough condition. The handle is shorter than normal and it appears to be a reworked damaged sword that was reissued and shortened. The shark skin is made of compressed paper and there is no hole for the peg to hold the tang. There may be one under the hilt end cap under the copper knot ring. This sword tells the story of an empire on the verge of defeat and how they armed their officers at that stage. Blade is 25.25" and overall is 36.5".

Civil War Era US Grimsley Valise Saddle Lot #2320 (Sale Order 383 of 605) This saddle seat is rawhide covered and we don't any makings or tags but this type is purported to be the Grimsley Valise saddle seat. It has many added on parts and they seem to be from the 19th Century or later. The skirt seems to be brown leather. The billet strap the reinforced canvas type. The stirup covers and fender seem to be black and the unmarked black saddle bags have some broken off ends to the buckle tabs but they function well.. We looked for maker marks and stampings and we saw none. Many parts look like they could be US Army. None of the leather is overly dried out of brittle.
