Published by National Civil Rights Committee, USA, 1946. Good condition signed by LAWRENCE DENNIS. In 1944, he was indicted in a group that ranged from isolationists to pro-Nazi agitators, in a sedition prosecution under the Smith Act. After seven months of proceedings the case ended in a mistrial, after presiding judge Edward C. Eicher died of a heart attack in November 1944.

This is the first German-American edition of the French Mystic Madame de la Mothe Guion. Published by Lancaster, Jacob Schweitzer,, 1828. 300 pages with 12 engravings, Fair/Good condition, leather calf binding shows signs of a hinge no longer present. "Die Heilige Liebe Gottes und die Unheilige Naturliebe. Navh ihren Unterschiedenen Wirkungen, In XLIV anmuthigen Sinnbildern und Erbaulichen Versen vorgestellt." Expounded from their complete biblical writings. Jeanne-Marie Bouvier de la Motte-Guyon was a French Christian accused of advocating Quietism, which was considered heretical by the Roman Catholic Church. Madame Guyon was imprisoned from 1695 to 1703 after publishing the book A Short and Very Easy Method of Prayer.

Absalom Grimes: Confederate Mail Runner (1926)

Very good condition, some slight staining (see pic). "Grimes was a native of Missouri who fought on the side of the Confederates during the Civil War, carrying the mail between Missouri's Confederate battalions and their relatives at home. He endured two terms of imprisonment and much suffering." As for the bookplate "Joel Davis Madden, Jr., left Princeton University in 1905 and moved west to make his fortune in the railroad industry. He went on to become an executive with the American Telephone and Telegraph Company, and died suddenly in 1928 at the age of 41. His book collection, offered by his granddaughter, has not been publicly offered or privately sold in a century."
