THE TRIBALS: Biography of a DESTROYER CLASS by Martin Hubert Brice (1971) Lot #19 (Sale Order 14 of 90) The Tribals: Biography of a Destroyer Class by Martin Hubert Brice, Published by Allan (1971) "Practically everyone knows of HMS Cossack's magnificent exploit in a Norwegian fiord in February 1940 when her crew rescued 299 captive British merchant seamen from the Altmark. Cossack was just one of 27 Tribal Class destroyers which served in the Royal Navy and the Royal Australian and Canadian Navies from 1938 to 1969. They were considered by many to be the finest of their type. The Tribals probably saw more action over a longer period of time, and over a greater area of the globe, than any other class of destroyer. They took part in almost every Home Fleet and Mediterranean action, the D-Day operations, the East Indies, the South-West Pacific amphibious landings, the Battle for Leyte Gulf, the surrender of Japan and the Korean War. Technical details are provided, together with lists of commanding officers and pennant numbers, and the ship's crests."

B.E.F. Ships before, at and after DUNKIRK Lot #42 (Sale Order 29 of 90) Very good if not better condition. Excellent book on the ships used during the Dunkirk evacuation in 1940. All the ships big and small are listed including their post Dunkirk history. The sizable fleet allocated to carry the B. E. F. to France consisted of cross-Channel passenger ships, for military personnel, and ocean-going and short sea cargo ships for transporting vehicles, stores, fuel and equipment. When it came to the evacuation, every type and size of ship--from passenger liner to motor yacht--was pressed into service as part of the evacuation fleet and the role which these vessels had played immediately prior to that time was largely irrelevant. In order to give a better impression of the type of ship referred to, the descriptions adopted in this book related to the vessels' pre-war use, although mention is made in Section 2 of any interim employment of the main ships.
