Large and extremely well done Western Bronze by noted New Mexico artist Ken Payne, (1938-2012), titl Lot #23 (Sale Order 23 of 365) Large and extremely well done Western Bronze by noted New Mexico artist Ken Payne, (1938-2012), titled "The Borrowed Pony", #4 / 25, dated 1988, measuring 32 1/2" T x 25" W x 14" D, great detail. Ken Payne was an American Sculptor best known for his bronze works depicting the landscapes and history of the Southwest and Plains regions of the United States. His sculptures of buffalo, wolves, Native Americans, pioneers and cowboys often capture a moment of action in some larger narrative, bringing to life an idealized sense of the historic frontier of the Old West. In this way, Payne's works bears resemblance to the paintings and sculptures of Frederic Remington. Born in 1938 in New Mexico on a 24,000 acre ranch to devout Christian parents, Payne became a pi in 1956, working as a crop duster, and eventually a commercial pi in Dallas, TX. He made art in his spare time and strove to imbue his western subjects with the same majesty and grace as Greek and Roman masters. Payne died in 2012 in Chinle, Az. The Bronze is on a revolving wooden base.

ATTENTION COLLECTORS OF EARLY HOLLYWOOD MEMORABILIA: A great pair of Hollywood silver Spurs made for Lot #96 (Sale Order 97 of 365) ATTENTION COLLECTORS OF EARLY HOLLYWOOD MEMORABILIA: A great pair of Hollywood silver Spurs made for movie star, champion cowboy, Wild West performer and all around cowboy, Hoot Gibson. Intricately engraved with personalized nameplate reading "HOOT" on the 1" heel band. Elongated shanks with a 14" spoke and 2 1/2" diameter rowel. Beautiful sterling buckles with "CHAS. L. SAMPLE / L.A. CAL." markings. Edmund Richard "HOOT" Gibson (1892-1962), was an American rodeo champion and a film actor, film director and producer. While acting and stunt work began as a sideline to Gibson's focus on rodeo, he successfully transitioned from silent films to become a leading performer in Hollywood's growing cowboy film industry. During the period between WWI & WWII, he was second only to cowboy film legend Tom Mix as a box office draw. These Spurs made by Charles L. Sample (1903-2003), was the son of an Iroquois mother and a Scottish silversmith father, and was born on the Allegheny Reservation in Pennsylvania. Moving with his family to Southern California at the age of 13, he began working for Edward H. Bohlin in 1925 at 35 cents an hour. Charlie worked for Pachmayr's and fixed guns for Stembridge. In the 30s he had his own business where he partnered with Phil Fredholm, who had worked with him at Bohlin's. Charlie marked all his pieces, "CHARLES L. SAMPLE L.A. CAL ( and later HOLLYWOOD CAL). Over the years he had several apprentices-four men and three women. Accompanying this will be a Binder with further info concerning Hoot Gibson and Charlie Sample. Very interesting reading! Certainly a one of a kind and a rare opportunity to purchase this well documented pair of Hollywood Spurs.

It is a 7 1/2" barrel, .45 COLT caliber, 6-shot Revolver with attractive one piece bone grips. According to the serial number, if it is correct for this revolver, it was manufactured in 1920. PANCHO VILLA DEATH MASK: El Paso listed artist William J. Rakocy, circa late 1970s early 1980s, rev Lot #215 (Sale Order 216 of 365) PANCHO VILLA DEATH MASK: El Paso listed artist William J. Rakocy, circa late 1970s early 1980s, reverse plaster casting of the Pancho Villa Death Mask from one of the three originals cast in Parral, Mexico shortly after Villas death in 1923. The original this casting was cast from had been given to the Radford School for Girls in El Paso, Texas by Otto Norwald in the early 20th century. Otto Norwald's daughter Ruth was attending the school at the time. The mask was discovered in the Radford School Archives in 1978 by Steven Beck, an art teacher at the school. El Paso Artist, William J. Rakocy made this casting of the original while it was on loan to the El Paso Museum of Art in the 1980s. William Rakocy was curator of the El Paso Museum of Art (1971-1988), during the time the Pancho Villa Mask was on loan to it. The mask is inscribed on the back "Villa Mask No. 4 / Killed July 20, 1923 / B. Rakocy Mar. 10". William Rakocy crafted five copies of the original Mask. Shortly after the original mask was discovered at the Radford School, the Mexican government and press demanded its return. The mask was returned with much fanfare in March of 1984. After its return to Mexico, the Radford School death mask was last reported on display at the Museo Historico de la Revolucion in Chihuahua, Mexico. The discovery of the Pancho Villa Mask at the Radford School and its return is documented in a September 2, 1984 New York Times article "Pancho Villa's Death Mask Crosses the Border Again." Accompanying this Death Mask is a binder with much documentation concerning the Mask; A letter from Gloria Rakocy, the wife of William Rakocy. A letter from Denell E. Ariett, photographs and other information. Provenance: Authenticated as being crafted by William J. Rakocy from the original by his wife Gloria C. Rakocy in a letter dated August 22, 2017.

Navajo Bisti / Teec Nos Pos Pictorial Rug, Butterflies & Flowers, circa 1900-1930. Unique and expert Lot #239 (Sale Order 243 of 365) Navajo Bisti / Teec Nos Pos Pictorial Rug, Butterflies & Flowers, circa 1900-1930. Unique and expertly woven Navajo Rug from the highly sought out area of Bisti / Teec Navajo land. The variegated brown background creates beautiful bands trisecting the rug into classic 3-zones. Many people have never heard of a Bisti Rug and if they've seen one, they may not have recognized it. The name Bisti comes from the region where the rugs were woven and refers to an area that runs south from Farmington, New Mexico towards Chaco Canyon and Crownpoint, New Mexico. The western boundary is probably Hwy 491. Bisti means badlands in Navajo and when the Navajo's call something a badland, they're not kidding around. Although it is not an easy area to live in, there are some Navajo people who make their homes there and the weavers have developed two related weaving styles, namely the Bisti Rug and the Burnham Rug. This beautiful rug measures 35" x 58".

There is no provision for a rear sight. The front sight is a silver bead on a blade. Left side of the barrel is stamped with Belgian black powder proofs. The serial number is on the bottom of the lower tang. The falling block action is oversized with an extremely strong spring to provide enough force to fire all seven shots at one time. There is a spacer that is used to hold all seven cartridges for loading and extraction. The pistol grip, checkered, wood butt stock is in very good condition with nice figuring in the wood. The forend is also checkered and in good condition. The bores, although dirty, appear to be in good condition. There is a ding on top of the barrel. The action appears to function properly although care must be taken during operation to prevent losing the cartridge insert. These Volley Guns were primarily used on the early battleships because they could expel many shots at one time, hence the name Volley.
