S/N or VIN: 1T0850KXAEE267779. Hours: 4400ish. Claim Value or ACV: 210,000. The 2014 John Deere 850K Crawler Dozer was examined on March 15, 2018. The dozer sustained an engine compartment fire shortly after it was parked after being in service for approximately three hours. Examination of the dozer found fire damage concentrated on the top right center portion of the engine. A vertically oriented braided steel fuel located above the right rear of the engine was found to have a hole approximately 3/8-inches in diameter. The hole faced the top right center portion of the engine. The fire in the engine compartment is consistent with ignition of fuel that leaked from the hole in the fuel line. The cause of the hole in the fuel line is unknown. Examination of a photograph of a similar, unburned, dozer found no objects that could have come in contact with the fuel line in the area where the leak occurred.
