The doll has original Montanari stamp on torso, and imprint stamp on bottom of front shoulderplate, and is wearing beautiful silk and lace costume, lace cap, kidskin shoes and socks. Each has solid domed paper mache head with painted pale complexion and facial features, blue eyes, thick dark upper eyeliner, accented nostrils, closed mouth with outlined lips, blonde mohair wig, cloth body with jointing at shoulders and hips. Good condition, original painted finish, larger has some wear to hands and some costume repair. Designed by Jean Ray for Lang & Guillemaut, and presented in the Parisian department store of Au Bon Marche in 1921, wearing original fashionable costumes.

All-wooden doll with one-piece head and torso, very elongated throat, sculpted and painted hair, painted facial features, swivel waist, very slender torso and limbs, dowel-jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, well-shaped finger, painted flat shoes. Extreme craquelure on original finish of head and shoulders, knees re-attached. Grodnertal, early 1800s. The doll is featured in the book, Fascinating Dolls, by Samy Odin on page 15 described as a "perfect example of ingenuity and sophistication".

Firmly-stuffed all-brown leather doll has stitched-on leather cover over muslin form, shaped facial features including nose, chin and tiny mouth, defined neck, cut-out eye sockets with applied pupils, painted brows, black wiry hair, hand-stitched leather body. Generally excellent. For the French market, late-19th century, the doll was designed to represent native women of the French Martinique Islands. An article about the dolls appeared in the French journal L'Illustration at that time. An exhibit of these rare dolls was shown in the Musee de la Poupee in Paris.

There is a very faint original firing line on crown rim, original finish albeit fingers quite worn. SFBJ, circa 1915.
