(1865) Third Edition, fair/good condition with cover wear. Warren Chase was an American pioneer, reformer, and politician. In this book Chase recounts his socialist activities as espoused by Charles Fourier. Warren Chase [1813-1891] was one of the first apostles of Spiritualism in America and was a practitioner of the "Free Love" movement in the early 19th century. Born in Pittsfield, New Hampshire, he began studying mesmerism in Wisconsin by 1843. He was also an active advoate of Charles Fourier's scheme of socialism. An end result was the founding in 1844 of the Wisconsin Phalanx- a socialist community in Fond-du-Lac County that disbanded, with a profit, six years later.
