Paper mache monkey with fur-covered body is posed seated on his haunches holding a banjo in his hands; he has glass inset eyes, hinged jaw, painted teeth, and, when wound with attached key at the back, he turns his head side to side, opens and closes his jaw as though singing, and strums the guitar, while music plays. Key is signed R.D. Generally excellent, mechanism functions although a bit slowly. Roullet et Decamps, from their mechanical animal series of the early 1900s.

German musical toy "A Trio of Children Taking Tea in the Garden" Zinner and Sohne. $1800/2100

9"h. 11" x 8" base. Posed upon a wooden platform with colorful painted decorations to simulate a carpet are three bisque-headed children seated at a wooden tea table which is laded with pewter tea service. Each child has painted features, closed mouth with laughing expression. When wound, music plays and the children tilt forward and back in their chairs as though rolling with laughter, and lift tea cups to their lips. The dolls have Heubach block letter signature. Generally excellent. Germany, Zinner and Sohne, circa 1910.

Bisque shoulderhead with blonde sculpted hair having ringlet curls at the forehead and braid-outlined chignon at the back of head, painted bright blue eyes, facial features, closed mouth, sculpted bodice with gilt beading, carton torso and cone-shaped skirt, brass feet, bisque lower arms. When wound, she moves her brass feet by means of tiny hidden wheels within each foot. Excellent condition, mechanism works slowly. Germany, circa 1875. The doll has rare coiffure, bodice, and wears a superb antique gown.

13" x 6" base. Arranged upon a decorated wooden base is an amusing scene featuring a bisque headed boy with blue glass eyes, and mohair wig, with attached drum at this torso and wooden drumsticks in his hands; and a pair of performing puppies with bells, wire jump rope and balancing stand. The lambswool covered puppies have amber glass eyes and wooden limbs. When the handle is turned, music plays, the little boy turns his head side to side and bears the drum, the little puppy jumps over the wire hoop which revolves over him; and the larger puppy pulls the wire that rings the bell. Very good, all original albeit very dusty, mechanism and music function well. Germany, circa 1890, Zinner and Sohne.

11" American patented mechanical toy "Girl on Velocipede" by Arthur Allen. $900/1200

Lot #275 (Sale Order 26 of 201)

A metal velocipede with three large spoked wheels has a young girl rider with cloth-base modeled head having sculpted hair and headband, and painted features, brass plated hands and feet which attach to steering bars or pedals. A curved tin roof covers the mechanism behind the two back wheels, and when wound, she is designed to ride in circles and forward. Good/very good condition, original finish to head, original costume albeit dusty, mechanism needs adjustment. Patented by Arthur Allen of New York in 1870, with rare cloth-molded head by Goodwin. The early American toy is very rare to find.

The wooden cased music box has beautifully grained wood with inlay bone accents (including Polyphon medallion at the front) and ebony black edging. The case hinges open to a colorful riverside scene and gilt lettering "Polyphon". The mechanism is complete, and the music box includes eighteen discs. Cabinet excellent, mechanism functions well although the comb has some oxidation which needs cleaning. Late 1800s.

Kewpie wears only a large green felt sailor's cap with black silk banding labeled RJW Club, and carries a 2 1/2" brown jointed teddy bear with swivel head and jointed limbs. There is a red paper heart on Kewpie's chest and a paper label on back "Kewpie & Teddy, #203". Both Kewpie and Teddy have RJW brass buttons, and they are contained in original labeled box with certificate of authenticity. The set was released in 1999/2000 exclusively for members of the R. John Wright Collectors Club; only 520 sets were produced. Petite all-wool felt hand-painted clasped pin as a tiny Kewpie holding aloft a banner reading "UFDC R.
