AUSTIN Seven LWB Ruby Special Lot #382 (Sale Order 358 of 609) The Austin Seven has always been a very popular choice for Special builders since the very first models were introduced in 1922. There have never been enough Ulsters, Nippys and Sports Models to satisfy demand and a thriving industry has been established since the 1930s to create the ubiquitous Seven Special.
Austins are easy to work on, small and relatively lightweight, with many new and old spares available 'off the shelf'. Much has been written on the subject, with Specials built by both the new enthusiast and the old hand expert, with some fantastic results.
On offer here is a Long Wheelbase Ruby kit of parts consisting of chassis, wheels, engine and gearbox, axles, some tyres, springs and a quantity of useful parts, loosely assembled into a rolling chassis. The Lot comes with a Car Transporter Trailer.

1937 Morris 8 Chassis & V5C Lot #384 (Sale Order 359 of 609) The chassis for 3 and 4 ½ Litre Bentleys of the period 1922-1930 are basically interchangeable, differing mainly only in length.
The usual types were the 9 ft 9 ½ inch 3-litre Speed Model or TT Replica chassis, also used for some dozen very rare 4 ½ Litre 'Shorty' models and the 10 ft 10 inch 3-Litre 'Long Standard Chassis, also used in the remaining 4 ½ Litre cars.
Many 3-4 ½ Litre cars have been built up using the 9 ft 9 ½ inch 3-Litre chassis but with a 4 ½ Litre engine, producing a handy and powerful special.
This is a 9 ft 9 ½ inch (Short) chassis, and is believed to be a recently fabricated item, but to entirely correct specifications, with four riveted crossmembers and the usual engine bearers. It is believed that the front of the chassis may consist of a pair of original dumb irons. The chassis has been recently used probably in a 3-4 ½ litre car, and is drilled in the correct places for brakes, steering etc.
This would therefore make the ideal basis for a 3-Litre Speed Model or a 3-4 ½ Litre car, subject to approval by the Bentley Drivers Club and licencing authorities.

FORD Model T Kit of Parts Lot #385 (Sale Order 360 of 609) The chassis for 3 and 4 ½ Litre Bentleys of the period 1922-1930 are basically interchangeable, differing mainly only in length.
The Ford Model T is a machine that ranks as one of the most significant and important inventions of the 20th century, which proved to be a truly remarkable and versatile machine.
This kit consists of all the major parts needed to make at least a rolling chassis, and with engine and gearbox, radiator core, wings, running boards, bulkhead etc., it makes an interesting project. This would therefore make the ideal basis for a 3-Litre Speed Model or a 3-4 ½ Litre car, subject to approval by the Bentley Drivers Club and licencing authorities.

1977 Land Rover Series III SWB Station Wagon Lot #366 (Sale Order 361 of 609) The Series III Land Rover was the final development of the 'Series' vehicles, and was also the most common, with some 440,000 being produced between 1971-1985. They were cosmetically very similar to the proceeding IIA model, with headlights in the front wings and a plastic grille for safety reasons. The dashboard was now moulded with the instrument cluster in front of the driver. The 2.25 litre petrol engine, as here, had its compression ratio raised from 7.1 to 8.1, thus slightly increasing power, and all models had synchromesh gearboxes.
The short wheelbase 88 inch Station Wagon was always a rare and expensive model, and remarkably few seemed to have survived. This example is in sound condition and has a current MoT certificate. Currently Sorned, it should be free to tax on renewal.
The vehicle is amazingly original and unmolested, which is quite unusual, as 40 year old Land Rovers have usually had hard lives, and have been extensively modified. The vehicle does not appear to be suffering from serious chassis rust, as many do, and it drives very nicely. The specification is high, including the insulated Safari roof and de-luxe heater and trim options, making it a very expensive 7-seater vehicle when new. The cream and grey paintwork is thought to be original.

1933 Austin Seven 2 Seat Tourer Lot #387 (Sale Order 362 of 609) The Austin Seven was in production from 1922-1939, and at one time, was the most popular car in Britain. Built in many forms, with improvements added over the years in looks, performance and comfort, the latter Models are often considered by many to be the finest that the company produced.
Sevens were also made under licensed production in America, Japan and Europe and many Racing Specials were constructed from Austin parts, with young enthusiasts trying to follow in the footsteps of the Works Team.
ANA 615 is one of the later Sevens produced, and is believed to be a PD Model, the forerunner to the Opal, sister car to the very successful Ruby.
Recently repainted in a period maroon colour, and with new hood, the Vendor tells me how well the car runs and drives on the road, with a very reliable engine. A new project now means that a new owner is sought and the car comes to the sale with a current V5C and a history file.

1930 Austin Seven RK Sunshine Saloon - BLUEBELL Lot #388 (Sale Order 363 of 609) By the late 1920s, sales of the larger horsepower cars were substantially down as a result of the poor economy, but Austin sold 27,000 Sevens in 1929 plus a large number of licensed BMW Dixis and Rosengarts amongst others. Saloons were now more popular than the open Chummy models, but owing to their slightly fragile lightweight construction they had become somewhat frail by the 1950s, and many became suitable for conversion into the ubiquitous fibreglass bodied Sports Specials and later the myriad of Ulster racing replicas.
So early saloon Sevens are now a relatively endangered species, and this little vintage RK alloy bodied saloon is a rare bird.
The RK Saloon was introduced in September 1928 in both alloy panelled form, as here, or as a fabric body. In both cases the ash frame was directly fixed to a steel floor. The body was an elegant but very tall square construction with two wide doors cut away to fit the rear wheels, with sliding and lifting 2-piece windows. A long scuttle, short 4-piece bonnet and, by late 1928 a plated longer radiator cowl and rounded fuller wings changed the appearance only slightly from the earlier 'R' Type 'top hat' saloons.
Affectionately called 'Bluebell', an amazing history file accompanies the Lot, dating back to when the car was new, in May 1930. Included are Six? Log Books, including its first, MoT Certificates, Invoices and receipts, a Handbook and Parts List etc., and a copy of some period photographs of the car when in the hands of its third owner, George Jack, whose ownership lasted from 1937-1961.
The current keeper, Bluebells tenth, has carried out much mechanical maintenance including brakes, wheel bearings, track rod pins and bushes, new battery and master switch, water hoses, rear lamps, indicators, Bosch distributor, 18 mm spark plugs, HT leads and coil etc., and has also added a later NOS Ricardo type cylinder head, potentially boosting the performance and taking the Austin from 10.5 bhp to 17 bhp.
This is now an unusual opportunity to acquire a vintage Seven saloon of great charm and rarity, with factory fitted sunshine roof, giving rise to its description in the Log Book as a 'Sunshine Saloon'

1926 Talbot 10/23 Z10 Tourer Lot #389 (Sale Order 364 of 609) Clément Talbot was founded during 1903, the name being taken from two of its directors, the Earl of Shrewsbury and Talbot and the French car manufacturer, Adolph Clément. Initially importing the popular French Clément cars into Britain, but from 1905 Talbots were producing cars of their own design in London. Talbot cars soon gained an enviable record in competition and a special bodied Talbot 25hp, driven by Percy Lambert, was the first car to complete 100 miles in the hour at Brooklands in 1913. Following the Great War, Talbot along with Sunbeam, was acquired by the Darracq Company, creating the STD combine. The chief designer at this time was Georges Roesch, a gifted engineer who had joined the organisation in 1916 following a spell at Daimler. Roesch's design philosophy of lightness and the increase of output by means of higher rpm was vindicated with the 10/23 model announced in 1923, a development of the successful 8/18 light car. A model of high quality, it was powered by an OHV engine of 1074cc and featured a plate clutch, in-unit three-speed gearbox with central change, torque tube, spiral bevel back axle and quarter-elliptic suspension. It was capable of brisk performance for its size, with a top speed of some 55mph, allied to extremely good fuel economy and was regarded as the outstanding light car of its time.
This delightful, late example, appears to have the relatively rare factory supplied four-seater tourer coachwork. Nothing is known of its early history but it was recently subject to a total rebuilt, including new hubs, straightened axes, re-trimmed interior, and bare metal respray etc.
The Talbot comes with a V5C registration certificate and represents a rare opportunity to purchase a high quality vintage light car which will bring a huge amount of enjoyment for a modest price and which is eligible for the popular VSCC Light Car Section events.

1927 MORRIS Flatnose Oxford Drophead Doctors Coupe Lot #390 (Sale Order 365 of 609) The 'Flatnose' range of Morris Cowley and Oxford cars were introduced for the 1927 season, and were a fairly radical update on the charismatic and very attractive but more than a little antiquated 'Bullnose' cars which had been produced since the start of Morris production. The main improvement was to the chassis, which was extensively redesigned with an up swept rear end to accommodate underslung semi-elliptic springs. This coupled with balloon tyres and four-wheeled brakes carried over from the last 'Bullnose' cars, gave the new models greatly enhanced road holding and ride comfort. The 'Hotchkiss' derived sidevalve engine of 11.9 hp (1550 cc), and the three speed gearbox were also carried over from the previous models.
The new cars appeared instantly more modern and they were larger and more practical than the older types. They sold extremely well, as would be expected; Morris's were always regarded at the time as far less 'Auntie' than an Austin. A 'Simplified' no frills Cowley was also available at a lower price, with rear wheel brakes only, and lacking shock absorbers, but the price reduction was small.
This particular example is in very sound mechanical order, and runs and drives very sweetly. The body is finished in a superb dark green, and has mellowed beautifully, the hood, headlining and wood work are all in excellent order, and the hood folds down as it should. With period features such as the Barker Dipping system, and sensible upgrades such as a coil conversion, makes this a very usable vintage car, that can keep up with modern day traffic and can be used in all weathers. It has the advantage of a dickie seat.
OT 5140 comes to the sale with a current V5C and a small history file.
