Rare Andy Warhol (Rosenthal Studio Line) Mercedes-Benz Glass Plate Lot #9 (Sale Order 9 of 332) Very scarce glass plate by Rosenthal Studio-Line of Germany, in cooperation with The Andy Warhol Foundation and Mercedes Daimler Benz. It is high quality glass with bevelled edges and measures about 9 3/4" square. The image features Mercedes famous Grand Prix/Formula One racing car from around 1954, the Silver Arrow (or Stromlinie) W196. Andy Warhol's facsimiled signature at bottom right corner. Extremely scarce in red - blue examples are far more common.

Pedal Driven Racing Car Lot #21 (Sale Order 21 of 332) Superbly hand crafted in steel and finished in white with green racing stripe and green cast metal wheels with rubber pneumatic tyres. Padded green leatherette seat and black steering wheel. Chrome radiator grille. Length 56"/142cm. Together with a solidly made green steel display stand. This is a prototype made by Naylor Brothers Restorations some years ago. It was based on a 1949 Secar made by a company in Slough of which only about ten were made. However, this car did not go into production and hence this example is unique.

An Extremely Rare 1911 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost Mascot Lot #66 (Sale Order 66 of 332) A magnificent Edwardian Rolls-Royce Spirit of Ecstasy mascot for the 40/50HP six cylinder Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost automobile, this being the rarest type, produced for only 6 months back in 1911, having various correct period dating features including the hollow under base area & most importantly the words 'Rolls-Royce Limited 6th FEBRUARY 1911' around the base area, as opposed to all other Ghost mascots which read 'Rolls-Royce Ltd FEB 1911'. This rare mascot features the signature of Charles Sykes across the top of the base area and no under-wing markings, which is correct on all pre-World War One examples. A stunning and impressive item of the very finest detail, deep original pre-war nickel-silver plated finish on bronze base metal, mounting stud and fittings, mounted to a display base.

It features superb colour artwork of a boat tailed racing car, as well as father & son. Some wear, creasing and discolouration. Framed and glazed to a high standard. 53x79cm. History - Tate, whose real name was Ronald Hutchison, was born in 1872. His first big success came with his 'Motoring' sketch, in which he, a chauffeur and his idiotic son failed to get the car started to take the son to college. The son sat in the back of the car making inane comments such as "It's amazing, pa-pa", and "Goodbye-eee" (which became Tate's best-known catchphrase and was the inspiration for the popular World War I song).

A Very Rare 1908 Michelin Tyres 'With Compliments' Badge (English Text) Lot #115 (Sale Order 115 of 332) Features Monsieur Bibendum in his very earliest guise (as he originally featured on the 1898 poster) showing him offering a toast to his scrawny competitors with a glass full of road hazards. It was in 1908, when Michelin first gave this cigar smoking character the name "Bibendum" that this promotional badge was put into production. The badge was offered to important customers of the time and is marked 'With Bibendum's Compliments'. Pin to reverse side is missing, otherwise the badge is offered in good original condition. A very sought after piece of Michelin Tyres ephemera.

The Jaguar D-Type' by Pritchard, Palawan Press Lot #150 (Sale Order 150 of 332) The book includes the story of the design and development of the D-type, as well as a racing history of both the Works cars and those belonging to private owners. The focus is on the D-type, but naturally included is the XK-SS, a road-legal sports car produced after Jaguar retired from racing, by converting 16 of the unsold, unfinished D-types. As is customary for Palawan editions, there is an extensive section setting out the history, both written and photographic, of every D-type made. Appendices include technical descriptions, road tests and biographies of the works drivers and the technical staff involved in the development and racing of the D-type. Comprising 420 pages, with over 500 photographs, the book measures 290 x 340mm and is exquisitely designed and presented in two limited editions. Limited to just 250 copies, numbered 1 - 250 (this example numbered 169), bound in green buckram cloth, silkscreened and silver foil blocked on the front and spine, and encased in a green buckram cloth slipcase with silver foil blocking. This clothbound edition is now sold out - Less than ten examples of the leather-bound edition are available, retailing for £3000.

An Excellent 'Whisper' Mascot for Rolls-Royce Ltd, Signed C. Sykes Lot #164 (Sale Order 164 of 332) The 'Whisper' mascot was produced after John Walter Edward Scott-Montague, the second Lord Montague of Beaulieu, commissioned his friend Charles Sykes to sculpt a personal mascot for the bonnet of his Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost; Sykes chose Eleanor Thornton as his model, her being the secret love & secretary of Lord Montague. Sykes set about crafting the figurine of her in fluttering robes, pressing a finger against her lips, symbolizing the secrets of their love. The figurine was consequently christened The Whisper & was optionally fitted to other 40-50HP Silver Ghost cars of the c1911 - 1914 period. This totally correct example, offered in good original condition, features silver plating over the bronze base metal (some tarnishing and loss), with Charles Sykes signature to the base area. Display-base mounted and one the best examples of an early Rolls-Royce mascot we have had the pleasure of offering. Provenance - Formerly on display at the premises of the London Horseless Carriage Company.

A Rolls-Royce Factory Prototype or Mystery Mascot, circa 1911 Lot #274 (Sale Order 274 of 332) An unusual and exciting piece of Rolls-Royce ephemera, that has baffled historians and enthusiasts for many years. Reputedly the missing link between the 'Whisper' and 'Spirit of Ecstasy' mascots that were first fitted to the 40/50HP silver ghost motorcars of 1911. Constructed from silver-plated bronze, the piece sports many distinguishing features linking it to both mascots; These include the fluttering robes of the 'Whisper' and the swept-back arms found on the 'Spirit of Ecstasy' (plus remarkably similar facial features and feet). The mascot is offered in very good original condition, with some light wear and discolouration to the plating, commensurate with age. Fitted to a later Rolls-Royce cap as a display base, the mascot measures 12cm tall and was formerly on display in the premises of 'The London Horseless Carriage Company'. Surely one of the most important Rolls-Royce offerings of recent years.
