Lambretta Mink ‘Prototype’

Lot # 101 (Sale Order: 1 of 136)

The UK Lambretta importer experimented with the idea ofproducing a microcar using a Lambretta engine and was once owned bythe renowned Lambretta enthusiast and writer,  Mike Webster. This example is the prototype of which production did not takeplace because, it is believed, handling was not good due tothe long frontal overhang. The front two wheels were locatedhalfway along the body and there was no way its road manners couldbe significantly improved with such a design. It is also allegedthat the car was designed to be used as a runabout in Bermuda witha speed limit of 30mph. Certainly there is no evidence of any sidescreens for the Mink although there is a folding top so perhapsthis was to keep the sun off rather than the rain. The car was undoubtedly professionally trimmed out and itsprototype status is confirmed by the fact that there are at leastthree different wheel arch profiles visible on the inside of thewheel arches on the fibreglass. The desirable SX200cc Lambrettaengine which is currently  fitted would undoubtedly have beenable to propel the car up about 70mph. Other unusual features werea 12 volt electrical system with a dynastart mounted above theengine and driving via a 'V' belt onto the crank shaft fly wheel.Braking is hydraulic on the front wheels and hydraulic/mechanicalon the rear wheel with a conventional cable operated handbrake onthe rear wheel only. This car also comes with a metal frame andsoft top plus a full tonneau cover  An interesting vehiclewhich could be immense fun on the road.

Lambretta GP200

Lot # 102 (Sale Order: 2 of 136)

The new GP Lambretta range was offered in three engine sizes,125, 150 and 200, which had many improvements over its forebears. This model for most markets was called the DL, but in the UK andsome other markets the model was called the Grand Prix. The newlydesigned body was shorter and sleeker, giving the GP a moresporting looks, slimmer leg shields, a rectangular headset andlight unit was also used. The GP200 gained a disc brake and frontdampers, again all painted in a Fiat 690 Silver. The 200cc modelscarried the SX200 stamping but, as with all other GP models, gainedits own number range. A larger tapered crank and different flywheelwas used on the 200 models helping to cope with the extra powermade from the engine modifications. The GP200 was capable of nearly70mph according to the brochures with noticeably increasedacceleration. This striking example has undergone a total nut and boltrestoration; the bike itself is practically new to such an extentas to have not been ridden since the work, no fluids have evenadded yet. The vendor describes it as 'box fresh'! The colourscheme is equally interesting with the colour chosen, the same asanother famous Italian stable mate, the Lamborghini Miura. Suppliedin superb condition and with a letter of authentication of theLambretta Club GB, this rare Innocenti model is a worthy classicscooter and very well prepared.

Norton Commando 850 Mk.III

Lot # 104 (Sale Order: 4 of 136)

Although the first Commando appeared in late 1967, the earlyCommandos proved to have weak frames and the design was soonmodified with an extra bracing tube to the headstock which solvedthe problem.  A restyling exercise in 1970 saw the FastbackMk. ll with upswept exhausts and reverse cone pipes replacing theAtlas-type ones that were used up to that point.  Only fourmonths later, the Mk. lll arrived on the scene with several changesincluding a modified centre and side stands and a wider sectionfront tyre.  Originally registered on 6th April 1976, thismatching numbers Norton has only had four owners in total and hasrecently been re-commissioned after a long period in storage. Therecent works were carried out by Carl Rosner Ltd., in South Croydonand totalled £1,501.76. An MoT test was carried out at the sametime which expires on 10th January 2018. This Commando850 presents in good condition mechanically, however she could dowith a little time and investment to bring her up to scratchcosmetically. These imposing motorcycles are in strong demand; thisexample appears to be realistically estimated.

Triumph Spitfire Convertible (1500cc)

Lot # 107 (Sale Order: 7 of 136)

The Triumph Spitfire was originally devised by Standard-Triumphto compete in the small sports car market which had opened up withthe introduction of the Austin-Healey Sprite. Triumph's idea was touse the mechanicals from their small saloon, the Herald, tounderpin the new project. Italian designer, Michelotti wascommissioned for the new project and came up with a traditional, swooping body, as well as a single-piece front end which tiltedforwards to offer unrivalled access to the engine. It was a hugesuccess and four subsequent variants ensued. The latest of whichwas the Mk. IV, complete with a 1500cc engine, a top speed of100mph and 0 to 60 mph reached in 13.2 seconds. The last one everto be produced was never used and now resides in the Heritage MotorMuseum at Gaydon. This delightful Spitfire 1500 was subject to a lengthyrestoration between 2000 and 2009 and is presented today as if thiswas just last year. The red coachwork is unmarked, as is the blackinterior with red piping on the seats and wooden dashboard. We areadvised that "she drives as good as she looks" with no knownfaults. Fitted with manual transmission together with an overdriveunit, this Triumph is certainly a modern classic  combiningthe styling typical of a car designed in the 60's, with being aperfectly useable sports car which is straightforward and easy tomaintain for an enthusiast. The current vendor has owned UPY 686Ssince 2015;  having owned one in the 70's she wanted torekindle the love affair with the Spitfire but, due to lack of use, feels the time is right for this example to be passed on to a newowner.  Offered with an MoT test certificate until August 2017and with a good history file, this is sure to be a hit with auctiongoers.

Porsche 924S

Lot # 109 (Sale Order: 9 of 136)

The Porsche 924 was a design commission undertaken by Porschefor VW/Audi that was abandoned by the client and sold back toPorsche late in development with Audi agreeing to build the car atits Neckarsulm plant. A two-door, 2+2 coupé, the 924 replaced the914 as the company's entry-level model and effectively retired the912. It was the first Porsche to be powered by a water-cooled,front-mounted engine to make production easier - this front-engine,rear wheel drive arrangement was normal for most othermanufacturers but unusual for Porsche having previously only usedmid- or rear-mounted engines of a boxer configuration, all of whichhad been air-cooled. The 924 was a success and eventually evolvedinto the 'S' using the larger 944's 163bhp, 2.5 litre straight fourengine with the suspension upgraded to cope. Its long-term owner, a Mr. John Goff of Surrey, has maintainedthis 924S either by Porsche Guildford or respected specialists, GTOne Ltd of Surrey. With just two owners recorded from new, some 32years, it has certainly been well looked after, receiving a lightrestoration in recent years by GT One Ltd. Invoices can be viewedin the extensive history file, alongside the original owners packand manual, V5C, MoT test certificate and HPI certificate. Itreceived a cam-belt service in January of this year includingrenewal of water pump and starter motor. The paintwork, mechanicalcondition and interior are all in extremely good order and thishandsome 924S is ready for its lucky new owner.

MG Midget

Lot # 110 (Sale Order: 10 of 136)

First introduced in Monte-Carlo by the British Motor Corporation(BMC) on 20th May 1958 and intended as a low-cost model, the Spritewas designed by the Donald Healey Motor Company and manufactured atAbingdon, it was not surprising that the success of the designwould lead to an MG version, which was known as the Midget. The newMidget was to find a ready and enthusiastic market among thededicated MG fans, as it was a sports car with all the traditionalMG characteristics - small, inexpensive, fast, and safe withpredictable handling; above all, it was a fun car. This Mk. III Midget has been in the current ownership since July2010 and sadly, due to ill health, cannot be used or maintained inthe condition it has been accustomed to. The vendor has made adifficult decision to let it go to a new owner where it may becared for. The Midget presents well with good panel fit, whilst thered coachwork does show some signs of micro blistering in someareas but otherwise looks smart and is complimented by the optionalwire wheels. The engine is the standard 1,275cc unit fed by thetwin SU carburettors. In addition, a switchable electronic ignitionsystem is fitted. The interior is in good condition, being blackwith red piping and a period alloy steering wheel is fitted inaddition to a wind deflector behind the seats. The soft top, rearquarter windows have splits in them, otherwise, the top fits well.A hardtop is included but has never been fitted by the vendor andmay need transporting separately from the sale. This is a UKregistered righthand drive MG Midget with an MoT test certificatevalid until 15th November, 2017. We feel that this MG, with a smallamount of tender loving care, is a cracking little car waiting tobe loved, cherished and, no doubt, once again be running along inthe summer sunshine.

Jensen GT

Lot # 111 (Sale Order: 11 of 136)

The Jensen GT was introduced in 1975 as the shooting-brakeversion of the Jensen-Healey. The new configuration was a 2+2design with a very limited back seat. Aside from the body shape andseating, relatively little differed from the roadster. Accelerationand top speed were slightly reduced due to the increased weight andadditional smog control components on the engine. During its shortproduction run from September 1975 to May 1976, only 511 Jensen GTswere built with only 250 cars being righthand drive. According tothe DVLA website, less than 20 are registered on the road and a feware classified as SORN which makes this model a rarecommodity. These attractive motor cars were fitted with the potentLotus two-litre, 16-valve engine mated to five-speed Getraggearbox. This lovely example in Atlantic Blue with beige interior waspurchased by the present owner seven years ago and, whilst in hisownership, some extensive restoration has been undertaken. Thisrestoration was featured in the Jensen Club magazine in theNovember-December 2014 issue with the car featuring on the frontcover. Since this article was published, further restoration hasbeen carried out including a complete engine strip down and rebuildin 2017 which included a completely new steering rack, new bushesand rear axle.  In April, the carburettors were rebuiltincluding specialist tuning. The body was totally re-sprayed in itspresent colour and the car has had a new cambelt fitted. TheseJensens are rare to find in this condition and still attractive tolook at today as they were when first produced.

Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit

Lot # 115 (Sale Order: 15 of 136)

Before David Plastow left his senior position at Rolls-Roycefollowing the take-over of Vickers plc, he had been responsible fora series of models, amongst which was the Rolls-Royce Silver Spiritwhich was unveiled in October 1980 as a replacement for theRolls-Royce Silver Shadow. The coachwork of the Silver Spirit hadbeen designed at the in-house styling centre by Fritz Feller andgave the impression of being stretched in comparison with thebodies of the previous generation. Direct comparison, however, showed only small differences. The new models had slightly grown inlength and width; height had been cut a little, although thestyling was more modern than that of its predecessor. The interiorwas dominated by the expected combination of fine wood andsumptuous leather. Finished in silver with blue leather interior and deep richwalnut wood on the dashboard, this Rolls-Royce presents in verygood order throughout. The 6,750cc, V8 engine runs well and isgenerally regarded as a very reliable and long-legged unit capableof substantial mileage. The Fiat 500 will need little introduction. Suffice to say thatthis model became ripe for tuning with Abarth being a leader inconverting these little cars into successful fast road and racingcars of the period. With genuine Abarth models now seeing someextraordinary prices, it is of no surprise that many have beenconverted to replicate these versions of the Fiat 500.                                                                                                              Today, we are delighted to offer this wonderful example of anAbarth 595 S recreation lovingly built by its Italian Abarthenthusiast. The 2600 (series 106) was Alfa Romeo´s six-cylinderflagship and was produced from 1961 to 1968. It has becomehistorically significant as the last Alfa Romeo to have been fittedwith an inline, six-cylinder engine having twin overhead camshafts. This had been the traditional Alfa Romeo engine configuration sincethe 1920's but gave way to four-cylinder engines as the factoryoriented its production towards more economical mass-produced carmodels after the Second World War. The 2600 was introduced at the1962 Geneva Motor Show and is a large grand touring coupé whichcould seat four adults in comfort over long journeys at highspeeds. In that mode of operation, oriented more towards fasttouring than sporting driving, the agility and handling balance ofthe smaller Alfa's mattered less, while the stability and smootherride of the larger car, together with the wide power and torqueband of the six-cylinder engine, came into their own. Added to thegreater space and comfort, those virtues made a convincing case forthe 2600 Sprint. This fantastic Alfa was first registered on 23rd June 1966and has been with its current owners since 2000; the HPI reportshows it has had only one previous owner.  It has beenmaintained during this period by Rusper/Gatwick Alfa Romeo andcomes with a comprehensive service and history file. The ownerconfirms the body work is in excellent condition following a fullbare metal re-spray in 2003; the mechanics are all sound includinga recently fitted exhaust system. The car comes with an MoT testcertificate valid for 12 months and has recently had a service inJune 2017. Finished in classic red with upholstered cream leatherseats (carried out in the last five years) the rest of the interioris found in original condition. With some 164bhp on tap, capable of125mph and with a five-speed fully synchromesh gearbox, this carwill keep up with modern traffic conditions with its occupantsarriving in style. The car looks stunning and creates a great dealof interest when shown. 2600 are now becoming rare and aredifficult to find in this condition.
