Elegant Factory Engraved David McKay Brown Round Action Double Barrel Shotgun with Case

David McKay Brown founded his company in 1967 after apprenticing with John Dickson & Sons, and by 1974 he had revived Scotland's most famous contribution to fine gunmaking, the triggerplate round action. Since then the company has grown to be one of the finest bespoke gunmakers in the United Kingdom, rivaling even the oldest names in the business such as Purdey, Holland & Holland, and Westley Richards to name a few. This fine gun has blued steel chopperlump barrels with a single nickel bead sight on the narrow concave rib which is signed "DAVID McKAY BROWN (GUNMAKERS) LTD. ,32. HAMILTON ROAD, BOTHWELL" along with flourishes of scroll engraving. The barrels also show bands of engraving at either breech and 1994 dated London proof marks showing 2 3/4 inch chambers with automatic ejectors. The sleek assisted-opening, dual trigger, round action has a vibrant casehardened finish and displays near full coverage tight floral scroll engraving flowing across the entire surface only broken by "DAVID McKAY BROWN" signature banner either side and gold inlaid "SAFE" for the automatic safety on the upper tang. The gun is mounted to exceptionally well-figured, multi-point checkered walnut with a splinter forend which features an engraved and casehardened shoe and Anson button release along with the straight grip stock inset with a blank gold inscription oval and a checkered bare butt. Included is an oak & leather takedown case with company trade label containing a brass oiler and a set of cleaning tools. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech both proofed at .18.5mm (.728 inches) and measured .730/.729 inches; choke constriction .006/.009 inches; minimum wall thickness .031/.030 inches; 1 3/8 inch drop at comb; 2 inch drop at heel; 15 1/16 inch length of pull; weight 6 lbs. 4 oz.

Class: Modern Long Gun

Excellent overall, retaining 99% original blue and casehardened finishes with limited handling evidence. The wood is also excellent with a few scattered tiny scratches and sharp checkering. The case is very fine. Mechanically excellent. This is a chance to own a gun from one of Scotland's finest gunmakers!
