Lot of Three (3) Flintlock and Percussion Muskets Altered to Smoothbore Fowlers: 1) European Flintlock, NVSN, .56 cal., 21.25" octagonal barrel. Rounded lock has scroll engraving, "swan's neck" cock. Hardwood halfstock has carved apron at top tang, ornate oval plate atop the thin wrist, brass trigger guard with urn front finial, peaked buttplate, fancy floral sideplate, shortened to 7" ahead of lock. Condition is good-to-very good, the barrel showing overall dark brown heavy pitting, else generally smooth metal with good detailing. Stock is sound having wear to carving, scattered wormholes, 3" secure crack at right butt, brass plate where cut square at nose. Lock appears to be original flintlock with unbushed touchhole. Included brass-tipped tompion. Action is strong, smoothbore shows heavy erosion. 2) U.S. Model 1863 Percussion Rifle-Musket, Type II, NVSN, .60 cal., 36" barrel has 1 iron ferrule retaining the hickory ramrod, "1864"-dated lockplate. Walnut stock shortened to 7.25" ahead of lock, has pewter nose cap, coarse checkering at wrist and forend. Condition is good-to-very good, showing heavy erosion to barrel and iron fittings, smoother lock with clear markings. Stock shows age/wear but is sound. Action is strong, smoothbore shows mild erosion. (3) European Musket Altered from Flintlock to Percussion via drum bolster with cleanout plug, NVSN, 12 ga., 37.5" round barrel marked "J R/(circle)P M" and "1836" at breech, small lock with sporting hammer has simple engraving. Brass fittings incl. buttplate marked "13", serpentine sideplate, nose cap, 3 ferrules retaining the button-tip iron ramrod. Walnut fullstock has coarse checkering at wrist, 1" mother-of-pearl disc inlaid at right butt, 2 swivels. Condition is near-very good, with generally smooth bright (but toned) metal, fine markings, sound stock missing 1"x1" chip at toe. Action is smooth, smoothbore has overall moderate erosion.
