Civil War Identified CDV photograph of Lieutenant Thomas T. More, 71st Ohio Volunteer Infantry. The CDV is inscribed in light pencil on reverse "Lt. More" and what appears to be "Bradford", perhaps a town. Seated view wearing an officer's frock coat with shoulder straps and holding a kepi. Several small pinholes are at the very top of the cdv. The backmark is that of Hoag and Quick's photographic studio in Cincinnati. This view of More can be found on page 270 of Martin Stewart's 2012 revised edition of "Redemption. The 71st Ohio Volunteer Infantry in the Civil War". While a first name is not identified on the image itself, the identification of this image was verified through an examination of the American Civil War Research Database. Of the 8 officers in the Union Army who had the surname More, two never held the rank of Lieutenant, 4 were in regiments that were never in Cincinnati (where the photo was taken) and one was at least a Captain when his regiment would have been near Cincinnati. This leaves only Thomas T. More. He enlisted October 1861 in Co. E of the 71st Ohio as a 2nd Lieutenant and was promoted 1st Lieutenant and Adjutant of the regiment April 6, 1862, the first day of the battle of Shiloh. He was discharged in August 1862. The 71st Ohio fought at Shiloh and suffered severe casualties at the battle of Nashville. Thomas Trenchard More is buried at Woodland Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio. In-house shipping is available. Pickup is Monday, April 29th from 11 am to 3 pm in Carroll, Ohio 43112 or we will provide in-house shipping for this item. Once packed up we will send you an invoice for shipping & handling. Shipping questions: shipping@burnsbid.com Sales tax will be collected on all bidders. If tax exempt, make sure your certification is submitted with Proxibid.
