Desirable Pre-World War I Unit Marked Imperial German DWM Model 1906 Altered First Issue Navy Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol

A very fine example of an Imperial German DWM Model 1906 First Issue, altered, Navy Luger pistol, one of approximately 8,000 of this model originally manufactured. These were standard issue for the Imperial German Navy all the way through World War I, and even into the Weimar era. This first issue 1906 Navy Luger has the desirable 6 inch barrel, two-position (100-200 meter) rear sight, grip safety, and altered second variation safety markings with "GESICHERT" in the upper position. The majority of these first issue Navy Lugers had their safety markings modified with the original "GESICHERT" marking on the lower position milled away, but still partially visible on this example. The top of the chamber area is blank, with the "DWM" monogram on the front toggle. The underside of the barrel is marked with a "crown/M" navy acceptance proof with a "crown" proof on the left. The left of the barrel extension has a "crown" firing proof followed by double "crown/M" navy acceptance proof marks. With matching visible serial numbers on the barrel and frame, with matching "01" partials on the takedown lever, trigger, side plate, and extension, with the toggles and breech block numbered to another gun. Fitted with unnumbered (possibly replacement) walnut grips and a nickel finished magazine with walnut base with concentric circles numbered to another gun. The rear grip strap is marked with a "W.W.3693" naval unit mark for the dockyard at Wilhelmshaven, signifying use by either dockyard personal or on board of the ships stationed there.

Class: Curio & Relic Handgun

Very fine overall as arsenal reworked, retaining 80% plus blue and 50% straw finishes with light edge wear, thinning on the controls, scattered minor spotting/pitting, and crisp grip checkering. Mechanically excellent.
