Pre-World War II First Generation Colt Single Action Army Revolver

Manufactured in 1937. This is a representative example of the legendary Peacemaker chambered in the iconic .45 LC caliber. The SAA is one of the most iconic firearms of the American west, and it, alongside the Winchester Model 1873, are often cited as the "guns that won the west". The barrel is marked "COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY .45" on the left side and has the one-line Hartford address on top. The left side of the frame has the two-line patent dates marking followed by a Rampant Colt. The left side of the trigger guard is stamped with the number "4" above the Colt verified factory proof. Matching serial numbers appear on the frame, right side of the front strap and back strap, and back of both grip panels. The rear face of the replacement cylinder carries the partial serial number "98", likely a restorers error as the correct number should be "68". The matching assembly number on the loading gate and rear of frame. Colt commercial blue finish with casehardened frame and polished hammer sides. The revolver wears a set of renumbered, replacement checkered hard rubber grips featuring a Rampant Colt inside an oval at the top.

Class: Curio & Relic Handgun

Very fine, retaining 98% partially restored blue (gripstraps and cylinder) with 95% original casehardened finishes with limited handling marks and slight faint traces of a cylinder drag line. The replacement grips are fine with crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. An example of a the iconic pre-World War II Colt Single Action Army revolver.

Provenance: The Joe Marlin Hilliard Collection
